Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead are two of my favourite action movies so I'm gonna be there day one for this. The US trailer was kinda lame but the International one totally sold me.

the peyton reed defense force in threads about it was basically the saddest thing

Not as sad as people attributing everything good about the movie to Wright and the constant shitting up of unrelated threads tho.

Probably still not big enough ;_;

Wright, who did a lot of research and conducted many interviews with ex-cons (and current cons), was also at pains to place Baby away from the main crew. “Baby is very deliberately sitting as far back from the others as he can,” says Wright. “In his head he’s just the driver, but that actually backfires in some respects because he gives off the impression that he’s better than them.” How that plays out with Bats remains to be seen, but bosom buddies they are not.

“He’s somebody who’s in it for the buzz more than the spoils,” says Wright. “Baby genuinely excels at, and likes, driving fast. What the movie becomes about is the idea that Baby can’t be in crime without becoming criminal. Can this getaway driver escape himself?”

How good a driver is Baby? This alleyway stunt, in which he slides deftly past a truck, says ‘very’. “Jeremy Fry, our ace stunt driver, and Darrin Prescott, our Stunt Coordinator, came up with that one, which is this idea of doing a 180 in and a 180 out.” Like most of the stunts in the movie, it was done for real. “It’s quite astonishing to look at. We tried to do nearly everything for real on the roads. This is real driving. These are real stunts. And it feels like a real getaway chase in terms of the short cuts, outfoxing the police, and hairpin turns.” The most modern touch? The shot was filmed on a drone, because the alleyway was too narrow to fit a helicopter.

There are 35 songs in the movie, all told, with every single one cleared for use beforehand so Wright and his team could time scenes and movements precisely.

When you see the film, keep an eye on Spacey’s wardrobe. “I had this idea that Doc never takes his jacket off because he’s never staying. He comes in, does what he needs to do, gives them the briefing, counts the money, and then he’s gone until the next call.”

Showing that Baby Driver is not just about squealing tyres and handbrake turns, we get a few brief glimpses of Baby on foot during an extended chase sequence. “I tried to design it like a Hong Kong movie or a musical where there’s five setpieces,” says Wright. “I’m a big fan of setpieces that radically change, where something goes wrong and the nature of the action changes.”

Hyped for those 5 setpieces (most action movies just have 3). Same stunt coordinator and driver of Drive and John Wick.

I'd watch this movie just for the stunts alone. Kind of reminds me of Mad Max: Fury Road in how much of the stuff were real stunts and not CGI.

Ha yep. Everything someone liked about the movie "Wright did it again, wish he did the whole movie.

Everything they disliked "God damn Peyton Reed. He ruined everything. Muh Edgar Wright!"

I love how this movie has reviews out already on rottentomatoes at 100%, 5 months before it's released even!

Looks great.

Too bad the international trailer spoiled
Lanny Joon's character being shot in the head and stuffed in a trunk. Guess his character isn't that important ha!

Well the reviewers saw that screening at SXSW.
Yeah but movies normally have an embargo, guess it doesn't matter here. To be fair Blair Witch was like that but that was 2 months before it was released, but this is 5 months and they just showed the 1st trailer so that's shocking.

Looks great. Excited for this.

Edgar's films have never clicked for me and Scott Pilgrim was a steaming pile of crap with a lead that has the charisma of a saltine cracker.

i wondered why the trailer had so many dislikes on the ign channel until i scrolled down and saw that the comment section was swamped with people accusing it of being a 'drive' rip off. another day another reminder to never bother with youtube comment sections even if you're curious i guess. i hope this ignorant sentiment isn't popular on the rest of the Internet to the point that it's detrimental to how well the film does.

damn that's pretty wack, freaking idiots. Wright has been pretty forthright about how influenced by "The Driver" this is.

Which is what Drive was so inspired by as well.

Baby Driver shares so many common tropes/cliches of other heist movies that to attribute this movie's characters or style to 2011's Drive is stupid.

I see Eiza has come a long way from those crappy telenovelas she used to be in.

I don't disagree that the international trailer is better at communicating the idea of the film --without so obviously trying to sell it by fitting it in a more traditional pattern-- but I think I still like the other one better.

Drive came out in 2011. IGN tends to cater to younger folks (looking at the comments section of any IGN video should make that obvious). So there could be plenty of young people from the ages of 13-17 (born after 2000) who grew up on Drive as being their defacto getaway crime film and know nothing else. Hence, a Drive ripoff in their temporally ignorant reality.

In the Q&A after the film one of the actresses said that even dialogue during some scenes was timed to the music, he spent a long time planning it all out to fit.

This makes me super excited. Wright clearly loves his music, following him on Twitter he talks about it almost as much as movies.

Also
Ant-Man is a great flick
. I agree it's obviously missing Wright's flair and quite formulaic but it's still a solid entry in the MCU.

I'm so happy that we get it soon but fuuuuuuuuck. they're sending it to die.

hopefully despicable me 3 is moved to august or some shit.

Movie bumped up to June 28th

The release date was changed. It's been moved up 6 weeks early and will now premiere June 28. A week after Transformers, the same weekend as Despicable Me 3, and a week before Spider-Man: Homecoming.

It's great we're getting this sooner but the chances of this bombing just increased by like ten. There was pretty much no competition in August. Edgar Wright can't catch a break :(

June 28 is both awesome and horrible as a release date. Why not August or earlier in the year at that point.

Happy we're getting it sooner though, but Edgar Wright needs a damn hit :[

Hyped as fuck for anything Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz is a top five comedy of all time IMO), and I'm thrilled that we'll be able to see it sooner than expected...but fuck man. It's DOA in that release window.
