Halo |OT 25| Did you think me defeated?!"

While there’s little to nothing that can be said on that front, it’s been made clear that we won’t be talking about Halo’s next major title for quite some time. And no, that doesn’t mean Gamescom. Or PAX. Trust us, when we’re ready to begin pulling back that proverbial curtain, you’ll know. It won’t be soon

SO yeah, next e3 we will get a tease about the the next halo. ...

To me that potentially says that it might not even be a 2018 release. If it was, why not at least tease it this year? I dont think its a 2018 game which makes updating Halo5 and MCC for 4k all the more important.

Guess we won't hear about Halo 6 until either next E3 or maybe the VGAs, though the VGAs would be better for something smaller.

Since Phil said older 343 title/s will get 4k support I really hope besides Halo 5 they use this as an excuse to patch MCC one last time.

If it's coming in 2018, I'd say that a VGA reveal is a must; really want that early beta.

they keep playing with the words about other avenues of the halo universe other than a FPS. i have a feeling now the next game announced will be something different than Halo 6 FPS with linear campaign. They may take halo 6 even further out to use this state of the universe for story telling.

im prob wrong though

If "Halo 6" launches on 2019 I REALLY want to see a new engine, is it possibly to do it in 4 years?

Making a new engine will take years and cost a lot of resources. 343 likely won't be the ones developing it and it would have be created while they are making the game which doesn't make a lot of sense to me( unless they are already far in on completing a new engine). Bungie and 343(I think) usually guts the engine and remake it, or something like that.

Additionally, there has to be a specific, really good reason to make a new engine I think. Like their current engine has to be really bad at achieving their goals , and undermining the development on the game. If the current engine is doing what they want, then there's no reason to make a new one.

It is one of the reasons Call of Duty uses an old, but improved engine. It does exactly what the developers wants it to do, and they can improve it. It just doesn't make a lot of sense to make one considering the factors.

Chill dood. It's only June.

Yeah and? They said nothing is gonna be announced for a long time. That means probably next year. And they've never actually announced a halo game at a E3 that then proceeded to launch that same year. Its never happened.

It could possibly be a Fallout4 situation here as well, but i wouldnt put my money on it. Its not like MS to do that as they have never done that with any of their AAA games before. Not ever.

It doesn't need a new one, just tweaks to some aspects of parts of the current one

Agree. Maybe they need to tweak it to be 4K 60fps ready, but yeah, I don't think they need a new engine, at least if the one they used for Halo 5 is future-proof and need only new tools to work with and create content.

Btw, I was arguing over Reddit, what is the best way to unlock armor in a Halo game? Is it through challenges like Halo 3 and ODST did, or through the armory like Reach by earning credits, and is it Halo 5 with the RNG based REQs Pack?

I think a blend of the Reach armory with the REQ system seems like it strikes a decent balance. You can pay a large amount of RP upfront if you want specific items, or you can put your RP into packs and unlock rarer items much more cheaply if the RNG gods shine upon you.

That doesn't preclude certain armor being challenge-specific, like Halo 5's, either.

That's what I was arguing for, having a mix between the Armory and the REQs, where you can buy armors and weapons using credits you earned while playing, but you can also buy REQs Pack at a lower price and hope to get the thing you want if the RNG is with you, while having specific armors only available through Challenges or the Armory itself.

Glad I'm not the only one seeing a mix between both is possible.

Yeah, we'll see. I think that would placate the vocal segment who hates REQ systems, and get stuck waiting forever for a DMR. Especially if they bring back more detailed armor customization a la Reach that would also be a way to differentiate—playing the REQ RNG would give you a chance at unlocking a whole outfit in one go versus buying your Mark V piecemeal.

Yeah I agree with what you say

I think people asking for a new engine don't really know what an engine actually is and how things work.

Trust me I do know what is the purpose of a game engine and I think BLAM which is the name of the Halo engine is great but it needs some improvement on some areas like other posters havr said

What exactly do you want this new engine to do?

I want to see some of the elements of the Frostbite engine on Halo

Knowing the purpose of a game engine (running a game) and what a game engine is (a framework) and do (managing elements for visual rendering, audio, assets management, networking...) are literally very different things Jorge, and from what I've read (but maybe I'm wrong) about the fact that you want a new engine for Halo well, it kind of seems you don't really know what it is for. But again, I may be wrong, so I will let you the benefit of the doubt as we say in french, and ask you:

What are the elements of the Frostbite you want to see on Halo that require to make a brand new engine?

Really sounds like halo 6 isn't a 2018 title, doesn't it. 343, take all the time you need to blow out socks off - but I'm in the mean time, give us some reasons to continue to play h5 (high quality maps)

I want to see better management of PBR and also photogrammetry, the scalability of the engine, something that takes more potential of the current hardware some of the problems like splitscreen, 30fps animations on the distance etc I know have to do with the base model XO thats why I I believe with Scorpio they have a good ground to build something to take advantage of the more powerful hardware and lay the future endeavor of the franchise, since every release comes with upgrades to the current engine I hope they continue to improve it

Then you don't need a new engine. :) You need tweaks and optimizations alongside new librairies if some elements aren't already in place.

Calling for a new engine isn't necessary. Take a look a what Open Sauce made to the CE engine on PC and you will see that you don't need a new engine to get the best of an already good existing one.

I actually hope Halo 6 gets pushed back so we get a good campaign from 343i.

I hope Halo 6 gets pushed back because 343 are creating new assets using the old art direction. :p

Weird is it just me or my quote appear on ... ? hahaha all right Juan I known I'm not an expert on this field but I do have a passion for everything related to videogames and PCs since I was 4 years old thank you for helping me clarify that :) , BOLDED I would love that a mix of the Halo 2 Anniversary and Halo Wars 2 art style would be awesome

I'm sure you're talking with passion, don't worry buddy, and yes, regarding the art direction, I 100% agree.

I'm going to make an addendum to this saying that the challenge armor should be rewarded during the challenges not the end. This is only because 343i has commendations have been scaled horribly in the past.

I'm not saying it's not plausible according to the mechanics of the Halo universe. I'm saying it's in disagreement with the flow of Halo 3's narrative. It's throwing an asterisk on Marty's strings.

Well I mean they're also asking us to believe humans out of nowhere regrouped to be the galactic superpower in under 5 years. And some fans try and play it off saying the Infinity was already under construction, hunter worms helped etc. Missing the entire lore at that point how humanity's entire military might was destroyed, and Earth was invaded, all orbital defense destroyed and even some cities destroyed or glassed.

But here we are 5 years later, humans having drinks in bars with Elites. Even Gears of War 4 which is set almost 25 years later, aside from the automation building of the CoG to create new settlements, Serans are still as dispersed as ever, cities still destroyed. So narratively, things have been poor post-Halo 3. We are just supposed to ignore it and move on. Hey, here's a wicked new Spartan-IV program almost as good as the Spartan-II's, heres hundreds of new Spartans with better armor, almost as good augmentations without any side effects, also here are AI more advanced than Cortana and Auntie Dot as well.

This is actually a really good point.

Another thing 343i needs to do is make the UI in Halo 6 more like Halo: Reach's UI. It may be one of my least favourite games in the series gameplay wise but it's UI was simply perfect (armor design and custimization was great too).

It was simply jarring how we went from Reach's UI to the atrocity that was H4's UI.

Bungie's UI was not only fast and powerful, it was above all very recognizable (I miss the gamertag bars!!!) It was great to see them revisit that with the MCC.

Humanity's entire military might wasn't destroyed tho. They've still got a fairly massive population and industrial base, and the only other contenders for "galactic superpower" are fragmented and in the middle of a civil war.

It's really not like super unbelievable.

The only part of the post-war timeline that bothers me is the Spartan-IVs coming online so soon after the war. I really like the idea of Infinity being a last-ditch super weapon with the concession that Earth might have been hosed, but not being ready by the end of the war.

All I know is Infinity is a lame name next to Pillar of Autumn, Forward Unto Dawn, etc...

Indeed. Bungie had knack for good, interesting names. (Infinity looks terribly boring too, it doesn't have interesting shape like the Marathon- and Halcyon-class have, or any UNCS frigates.)

Halo novels are mixed in this regard. There are good ones (eg Midsummer Night) but most are boring place names or historical people or something.

Unfortunately, it is rather common for scifi for ships to have really boring and/or unimaginative names.
