The most impressive thing Conor did was the left uppercut counter. It also exposed the reality of his punching power to Floyd.

Conor seems to be a pretty big puncher in mma, but where does his power rank in terms of boxing? Obviously he's no Canelo. It also seemed like Mayweather didn't respect Conor's power at all.

Mayweather has a granite chin. The only time I thought he may be going down was with Judah and Mosley.

There is also the race issue I think The Guardian put it best: "They figured out long ago that more fans would hand over their scratch to watch him lose than to watch him win and they rode the formula to more than $1bn in revenue based on an inconvenient truth: there will always be a market for some in America for the possibility of watching an unapologetic black fighter getting beaten."

I really hope that's a joke, cause if that's what people watched the fight for, they need fucking help.

Yeah, for a guy who is famous for being untouchable, dude has a chin of iron.

I remember that. Mosley buckled his knees.

You can actually see Floyd's legs give up for a second and then become possessed and straighten back up. This was the only time I've ever seen Floyd really 'hurt' by a punch.

Well to be fair, Mayweather doesn't respect most dude's power since he's got a chin made of iron

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
I must say the post fight reaction has been great. Its more enjoyable than the actual fight itself. I can't believe people are calling for McGregor to fight someone like Canelo in a boxing match as a follow up. Are people fucking crazy?

Fucking what?!

Conor looked surprisingly decent in the boxing ring and he exceeded my expectations, but the dude should go back to dominating UFC

Canelo would destroy McGregor. That would literally last 2 rounds max.

Its nothing serious but a lot of loud mouths have been calling for shit like that. Its nonsense but I have to both laugh and shake my head at the same time. It feels like people watched a whole different fight at times.

The only boxing match that makes sense for Conor is a fight with Malignaggi just for the spectacle. Any active top boxer right now would fucking destroy McGregor.

On the bright side, Conor now has a boxing ranking:

Still surprised at people saying that the ref should have let the fight continue.

If you're really a fan of Conor then you should be grateful to that ref.

First and foremost for protecting Conor's health, because at that stage Conor was nothing more than a punching bag. This is compounded by the fact that Floyd doesn't have that much KO power, so the beating would have continued for a dangerous amount of time.

Secondly, for protecting Conor's brand. Much easier to sell the fact that you weren't out of the fight by being on your feet (barely) at the end of the match.

Let it go, bro. Mayweather is a master boxer, and was able to make McGregor look good, despite McGregor's multiple illegal hits and grabs. He gave the masses what it wanted, brought up McGregor's cred, and Floyd got a phenomenal payday. Everyone won.

Conor/Canelo should not even be sanctioned. I'd be legitimately in fear of Conor's well being.

Conelo would probably fucking kill Conor. There were doctors who were legitimately concerned about old ass Mayweather fucking up Conor, I don't think a Conelo/Conor fight would even get a green light.

I remember that live.. and it's the first time I saw Floyd ever get "hurt" as well.. Judah was a bit being off balance but that shot from Shane knocks down pretty much everyone 147 and below.

Typically you don't see guys who are so defensively minded have that kind of recovery, as they aren't used to getting hurt flush.. ala Roy Jones.. but Mayweather was a special kind of fighter... he was born into this and started at such a young age.

The thing Floyd had that kept him being so good for so long was composure.. he just never gets stressed in the ring.. it's a just a walk in the park being in the ring.. no nerves at all.

Keep in mind most boxers are done by the age of 34. A boxers prime in 26 to 30.

Floyd was at least 10 years out from his physical prime. Against a guy in his prime.. who probably outweighed him by 20 to 30 lbs by the time the bell rang.

It's funny how much credit Conor got for this, he was never in it... Floyd dictated everything. Conor landed one punch of note.

People give conor props for rounds where his opponent didn't throw punches.

That's weird.

Dude, did you SEE how many punches Conor landed? Mayweather had to weather the storm for the 1st three rounds. Conor DOMINATED Floyd for the first half of the fight. Just look at the stats - Conor was up there with PacMan on landing punches on Floyd. Dude is SICK.

If they are going to go with another carny ass fight they should agree to fight once boxing, once MMA rules, and if there is a tiebreaker, then... ARMS.

Pretty much everyone who doesn't understand what Mayweather did in that fight.

How about "Conor won the first three rounds and Mayweather executed his fight strategy". It doesn't have to be one or the other and you don't need to sound pompus as fuck while taking one side or the other. Mayweather's tactic was to survive an opening storm of punches and Conor's tactic was to deliver an opening storm of punches.

Edit- The pompus as fuck line was a bit too far so I apologize

I think Mosely said it before the fight, but Conor is a great striker for MMA but his power is dogshit in boxing. His footwork was atrocious and it didn't seem like he was getting any power from his hips or legs. Half the fight he was standing like it was an MMA match and where he could throw leg kicks.

I wrongly assumed that with a few months of training they could get Conor to throw bombs, but in reality he had shit for power.

If you see that GIF you would never guess Floyd won that fight easily.

The man is a genius in the ring. Everyone has a plan going in, not everyone can stick to it and even less execute it to perfection. He can.

At most he won the first round, that's about it.

I'd say he won 2 rounds, 3 if I'm feeling generous. It just sort of feels like there's a progressively growing attitude here where giving Conor any props means your some casual/uneducated fan, which makes me uncomfortable and makes for a potentially toxic environment.

Everything about Conor was sloppy in this fight. He can't box for shit and only got 1 round because Mayweather gave it to him. He deserves no respect for this fight at all. Shockingly bad to the point it was laughable.

I can't see how anybody can watch this fight and give Conor any respect as a boxer at all. Floyd could have easily ended this much earlier if he wanted.

A boxer at that age can never go to MMA and succeed. Anyone with an ounce of critical thought would understand why.

MMA fighters train in boxing as part of their normal routine.

Boxers train in nothing that has to do with MMA outside of striking.

The footwork needed to protect against kicks and takedowns in MMA is so incredibly different than boxing that you'd have to go against everything you've ever trained for to make the change.

Unless you had previous wrestling experience or at least kickboxing or muay thai training previously you have ZERO chance against anyone who's trained purely MMA for years.

A MMA fighter is a least using part of their training they've already had to go into boxing. A boxer is having to relearn EVERYTHING.

An interesting point of discussion would be if Mayweather (closer to his prime) could hold his own in the octagon at all. I think if he had some proper training he could maybe hold his own against other standup fighters, but not so much against submission/takedown guys. He'd have to learn a lot though
