It was good enough to get this job right? Don't add this work to your resume, just shop around your original one since you have only been there a short time.

If you DO end up going to the party use it to make some connections you can follow up on when you quit, see if there are any other jobs going around. The best way to find your next job is through the people you meet at your current one. Everything in this world is who you know, not what you know.

A friend of mine was working there and got me the interview. The resume didn't have a whole lot to do with it. My friend quit the following week, citing one particular persons laziness, which I have since encountered many times.

I will stay well away from the party, it sounds like a disaster waiting to happen (besides the whole 'no pay' thing). I have seen the guest list.

So a bit of Zavvi weirdness today.

I order FFXIII-2 roughly three weeks ago. Binary Domain two weeks ago, tops. Neither have arrived prior to today.

I finally found a parcel from Zavvi in the mail today and I opened it to find... Binary Domain?! What.

I think that the Playstation really kinda killed arcades >.> at least it was around that time when they started closing.
Dreamcast. As soon as people saw Soul Calibre running on that thing compared to the Arcade version minds were fucking blown hard.

Syndicate? More like an awful pile of vomit on childhood memories!

Why are people buying it?! Next youll be buying the Xcom fps and ignoring the stratagy game!
Strategy? More like retired veterans timesink while waiting to die from an overzealous nurse during bath time.

Also yes, I will buy both the FPS and the Firaxis version. The FPS looks to be in development hell though since when the Firaxis version was announced the 2K Marin one was quietly postponed until AFTER the Firaxis game is released. Plus have to support Aussie developers! I actually think it looks like fun.

Would love to know how it would fare in a parallel universe, released with a completely different name etc.

Having said that, I dare say many who are playing (and loathing) it weren't born when its namesake was released...so the name probably means nothing anyway.

Man, I loved the original.

Shoot them a message through your Zavvi account, had a similar thing happen with 3rd Birthday taking about 3 weeks to arrive. Damn thing turned up the day I sent them a message. They were quick to respond though and confirm the date it had been sent and told me if it didn't arrive within 28 days or something they would send out another copy or refund me, depending on what I wanted.

I'm mainly willing to give any game a shot regardless of its title. I will judge a game based on its merits and take into account all external factors in order to make an informed opinion.

Outstanding work, cods. Already looking forward to your insightful trend analysis when this data is eventually compared to AusGAF 6. My outlandish early tip: cooler weather leads to more posts on weekends (although that might be more apparent come AusGAF 7?).
Me too! Love to see how these things will change over time.

Danoss, your boss sounds like a freaking idiot. Forcing people not to have breaks is just going to breed resentment. I don't believe laptops are any OH&S legal issue, though they're obviously not great for extended periods. Risers are available if your boss won't spring for docks (and from what you've said, I don't see why he would). I also believe you can be expected to work reasonable unpaid overtime occasionally but as I'm sure you're aware IANAL. I know some university salary scales higher up do not pay for overtime.

If you're in a toxic environment that you can't change the best thing to do is to get out. Fast.

Jase, you're right about the circumstances of the Amazon thing, I was just trying to make a point that even access to books can be revoked if they're delivered digitally.

Post times are weird, sometimes. On a couple of occasions I've had games sent on the same days arrive weeks apart. I've also had 3 games sent over the course of a couple of weeks only to have the first game that was sent arrive 1 month after the third game posted arrived.

It will turn up.

Zavvi also seem to send from different locations. I had one game take a month and it came from some random European country that I don't remember:/

Has happened to me too on more than one occasion. FFXIII took nearly a month to arrive, Xenoblade too. With both I ordered another game on the same bloody day and they arrived at least a fortnight earlier.

Though last week I received The Last Story in five or six working days. Shocked to see it on my doorstep so early. Only OoT arrived quicker in my experience (four working days I think). FFXIII-2 has yet to arrive though, even though it shipped a couple of days before.

Man, I loved the original so much I am kind of afraid to play the new one. Massive good times, hauling computers over to mates places, massive 17" CRT monitors lol

Pretty sure that's not the case with casuals. Where's Choc when you need him. He knows this stuff

I have no issue working a bit of unpaid overtime at work, largely because I know I get the flexibility to piss off early etc or arrive late when needed and work won't give me shit about it. Different circumstances however.

Heh, I was kinda hoping Choc would read what I wrote, get super angry about it and post some legal shit.

I don't mind working unpaid overtime as it usually results in time-in-lieu, which is fine. This situation isn't presenting itself as such, they're classing it as a "work event", whatever that means. It seems to be expected additional work with no benefits (at least for us). The idea is that the business benefits from our unpaid work at the event with no guarantee that the employees reap any of it, since we can be fired at a moments notice.

That moment you realise you have 5Gb of screenshots in your FRAPS folder on an SSD :|

Syndicate

(excuse the awful quality shots, not sure why FRAPS fucked it so much, looks much better in motion, didn't have d3doverrider on though)

Syndicate Wars intro was like the only intro vid I watched each and every time I played >.<

Man, so many memories, great game, Molyneux wasnt insane, Bullfrog existed... :(

Also I loved all the influence syndicate wars got from Ghost in the Shell, the music especially, I remember after watching that film it was like

Playing as Syndicate against those crazy culties and those trouble maker punks, the spider tank thingys, electronic mace thingy, I loved how the announcer dude thingy said that... Blowing up buildings... SIGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

(also possibly Danoss at work)

Danoss: That sounds like a straight-up load of shit. Work actively encourages all staff to walk when communicating with colleagues, has SH&E people come around every few months to check the workstations are ergonomic etc. and they're sure as shit aren't tight about making tea or getting people to work outside of hours for no time in lieu.

I don't know what you can do, but I know that shit's not fucking kosher.

I haven't been to an arcade in aaaages. Mostly because of all the dodgy folk that hang around them. But man, Timezone birthday parties were THE BEST back then!

And who could forget Sega World...:(
I still have my access card and fold-out map. Pretty good nick, too! Somewhere in my travels I lost my Sonic arcade token :(
When my folks and I went on a driving holiday to Canberra one year, we went especially to Sega World in Sydney on the way back as a surprise. My parents were occasionally balls-out awesome like that :)

Very strange. I would have thought it more likely that neither would arrive before august.

Totally watching that later. I have zero interest in QPR but I love fly on the wall sports docos. The recent HBO NHL 24/7 series has been rad as hell, I'd totally recommend them to any sports fans.

I see you Syndicate Wars and raise you Mechwarrior 2. Well the expansion. I used to love that game.

It stillstuns me that publishers think games like Syndicate and XCOM should be rebooted as FPSs or they won't sell. Thank god more sensible heads prevailed with XCOM. To suggest it's too complicated or deep hugely underestimates today's gamers, and suggesting it is too hard while Dark Souls exists is ridiculous. The hunt for the next Call of Duty seems to trump all logic for making something people actually want though

Segaworld was that old huh?
I went there once when I was really young and then it shut down a few years later.

This QPR thing is fascinating, nearly finished watching it. Noticed a track or two from Tame Impala too which is cool.

Totally going to be sleepy at work tomorrow. I hate you Sal.

A football club seems like the most socially awkward workplace. But it doesn't seem like they feel the awkwardness..

The four player co-op demo was amazing, that's what prompted me to buy it.

I posted a mini-review of the full game in the Syndicate thread, but I'll just add that I loved both the original and the 'remake'.

awww wtf gaf ate my post.
@ danoss what do you do, launching a product sounds cool. is it a product i can use
@ shan re swearing your excused
@ dnd are we on for tomorrow night. im cool with that but wed might be better as no school on thurs i need to wake up at 6 for.
@ everyone i start school tomorrow which will be interesting as they have all had a month of classes together already. but the class im going to tomorrow isnt even my class so yeah im sure ill be an outsider and they will have already formed their friends. i just hope im not with the internationals, not to come off racist but id just like my class to be full of people who speak english.
@ reptile what ever happened with dipping your kid in bleach? did the staph go away without further problems?

Do arcades even exist in Australia anymore?
the one at melb airport was the best arcade ever.
it was a tiny room that just had lights. was more of an alcove. it had the simpsons game, tmnt, t2 pinball, daytona, and tc 4 i think. it might have been 2 but i recall thinking it would be the actual best arcade if it was 2. so therefor it was 4.
but yeah throw in a pacman cocktail and that would be the arcade i put in my house.
there are a few other games i love but will save those for actual arcades as 6 is already enough for my house.

That's what I think man. OH&S guidelines state that monitors should be at eye level and keyboard locations should allow arms to be bent at a 90 degree angle. That's meant to be proper ergonomics as far as I understand. If computer workload is heavy, a break or change of activity every hour is required, if a lighter work load is undertaken, then every 2 hours is sufficient.

Taking away tea breaks does and has destroyed morale. I can see the people I work with not really giving a shit anymore. The boss is young and I don't believe he has managed people before. He'll learn, if not, he'll fall flat on his face.

@ danoss what do you do, launching a product sounds cool. is it a product i can use

Launching a product sounds cool and it would be cool if my boss wasn't a jerk. It was fine just before a week out from launch. Firstly, me and my team (me and one other) were doing fine, completely on track, getting pats on the back for our hard work; next we're under the pump being told we're doing poorly and they pile a shit-tonne of work on top of us. It's fucking bullshit.

I am part of a company that is supposed to help a millionaire make even more millions. The owner already has 7 businesses, and will no doubt open up more. They didn't hire enough staff to reach their projected targets. Apparently there was a high turnover before I arrived (gee, I wonder why) and they just recently let 2 hard working people go.

The number of people who were supposed to provide the largest portion of clients to reach targets is a team consisting of 2 people. Less than half of what would be required.

I'll let you know exactly what it is after launch, it's a smartphone shopping app to say the least. I will probably have some lolworthy news to post along with the name for you to read by that time.

No sleep last night and now my cold is back. Leg is sore as shit and got up to the baby last night and thought I had popped a stitch at one point. No extra blood though thankfully. Throbbing like mad though. Off to work!

@ reptile what ever happened with dipping your kid in bleach? did the staph go away without further problems?
lol yeah that cleared up nice and quick once he was on the oral anti-biotics as well as the cream and everything else. Thankfully was all gone within about 10 days. No scarring so far it seems.

ME3 spoiler thread. I went in there, So thats a thing.

I have a killer headache as well, No idea why. And the day has only just begun :/

The amazing "Gish" is $2.49 today on sale on Steam. Get on it. It was one of Edmund McMillen's games before Super Meat Boy and Cunt and is one of the better indie games around.

i posted in the old thread again ffs.

*sigh* I'll probably buy Street Fighter X Tekken since I love both series.

I love SF but I'm not a fan of Tekken at all. Despite this I still really like the look of the game. I'm on the fence.

I've bought so many fighting games lately though! :|
