Killzone Shadow Fall is the best looking next gen launch game

I would agree that Killzone: Shadow Fall is shaping up to be the most visually impressive launch title on the next gen systems.

For those who say they aren't impressed and that there isn't much of a leap over current gen, well I don't agree with that.
Some people either haven't experience a launch transition or have conveniently chosen to forget the massive step up in visual quality between launch games and software releasing a few years down the line.

Example...

Yeah PS4 is going to be a beast once we see the second and third gen titles from Sony's first party and other more technically proficient developers. Exciting times.

Resistance came out in 2006 ;)

Graphically it looks great, but Battlefield 4 just looks way better. It's a shame they're releasing at the same time, as I'd have liked to pick this up. One of my friends will be though, so I'll probably just end up playing his if not outright buying it (assuming he convinces me).

I think on consoles KZ will probably look better

RoboPlato

I'd be in the dick
Then why does PS3 owners love Heavy Rain? it's full of QTE. I'm not hating, just curious. And i own both consoles btw...

I can't speak for everyone but I think Heavy Rain is an interesting experiment in cinematic interaction and performance capture. The QTEs are not a typical pass/fail and the speed/accuracy you perform actions is reflected in the on screen animations. On top of that it's very tense. Despite some of the writing and voice acting I found myself very invested in the game and characters because of the presentation and how the interaction worked.

Heavy Rain was also never marketed as anything other than an interactive drama. Ryse is a third person action game with a focus on combat. Major distinction.

Yeah but how could you honestly compare the two games. I keep saying this in every thread thats trying to compare games graphically that it isn't so simple to judge games like these because they are doing different things. Killzone may end up being the more polished game and I think it will but you can't compare what its doing to a game that has 64 players, destructible environments, land and flying vehicles and more than likely larger environments. Those things all take processing power that could be used elsewhere just to make the game look graphically better.

Killzone have always been an outstanding amalgation of tech, art, animations and viscerality.

To me it certainly is the best looking game so far.

I keep seeing people compare Ryse to Lair. I remember Lair being the darling of the forum prerelease. There were as many gifs for it as there are Shadowfall now. Hindsight 20/20 and all that.

Sorry if I wasn't clear; I meant graphically Killzone looks better than Battlefield. However overall (gameplay if you will), Battlefield looks better to me.

Oh yeah I see what you mean. For me it depends if they get the magic of KZ2's mp back into SF. If not I'm definitely going with BF

Lair looked really awesome leading up to its release, and not just graphics wise. On the flip side, Ryse looks good graphically but looks to be lacking in gameplay. It's not hard to see why one was hyped and the other is not.

Single player Killzone sounds a lot better though. I'm a huge sucker for open, multi-objective FPS gameplay. It reminds me of Goldeneye/Perfect Dark, and as long as it's similar, I'll probably love it. I just cannot pass on Battlefield multiplayer though, which puts me in a tough spot.

There were so many good looking launch games for next gen and I agree, that Killzone was one of them. It's too early for me to say, if it's the best, though.

I wish I could believe you. Ryse can look really awesome in spots, but gifs of those moments don't float around...instead we get the same old mockery posts. People are finding what they're looking for in these titles.

First many ps3 owners don't like HR controls.

2nd: ruse is action adventure that relies heavily on combat while HR is more point adventure game that relies on story ,character .

Apples and Oranges. Heavy Rain is an Adventure game where combat takes a back-seat to the story and choices the player makes. Going off of impressions, Ryse is an action game Akin to Devil May Cry where fast paced combat is king. Needless to say, all of those QTEs get in the way of that.

Looks good, but it is another FPS in a long list at launch. It's not impressive looking enough for me to buy it for graphics.

I'm not even getting a FPS at launch on either console.

Actually ps4 will have all the shooters coming out this holiday season. Including F2P and only exclusive shooter.

Ok

Um, I'm not sure how that's relevant to my post. I said it is one in a long list.

I'm not buying any on the consoles at launch.

Edit* I already have Planetside 2 and I'll be buying good cross-platforms on PC.

Agreed fully here. The number of dynamic shadows and volumetric lights, combined with ALL lights being treated as area lights (for correct spectral reflections) is beyond anything else, including Crysis 3, which did not have proper area lights (despite being listed as an engine feature) and featured relatively few non screen space volumetric lights.

Ryse is an action game which relies on QTEs, HR is an 'interactive drama' which is pretty much a point and click game with QTEs. People give Ryse so much shit because it could be a much better and more traditional action game.

And no, people don't universally love Heavy Rain.

Pretty sure it is not universally adored by PS owners, but regardless, comparing a narrative driven game to an action/combat focused one does not present a solid argument in reference to the use of QTE's.

I don't know but if Ryse was on PS4, you guys would love it.

Did you see all of the shit Knack and Drive Club got until Gamesom? Just because a game is on PS4 doesn't mean GAF will spare it from criticism.

Definitely the best looking launch game atm, hard to see another game come close except MAYBE Ryse, and that's a big maybe.

Real weapons are made of plastic, or material that looks like plastic. Killzone tries to stay grounded so it would only make sense that the guns would look plastic.

again with the real weapons thing. i don't care about real weapons, I'm simply comparing it to the weapon in the original reveal. If Killzone can have metallic looking guns that shoot out lightning and explosive green plasma (Petrusite), I'm sure they can keep their original gun model for this futuristic electromagnetic gun.

No way Battlefield 4 looks better then KZ on a technical level. BF4 still looks fantastic and I think it's the environment and the huge amount of objects in a map that really impresses people. It's like you have a racing game, a tank game, a boat game, a submarine game, a jet fighter game, etc. all in one. It's things like that is truly amazing where other shoters struggle to do half those things at a smooth frame rate.

Easily the most impressive looking next-gen title at launch, looks a lot better than BF4 running on a high end PC, imho.

I don't feel Ryse is that impressive visually either - gameplay sections have all looked pretty bland. It looks better in cutscenes, but this shouldn't come as a surprise.

Ryse would be better if they added some mythology like 300. Imagine having a big sabertooth or something come out on the gladiator stadium and having to beat it., It has potential but needs good ideas implemented.

sorry for terrible first gif, lol, tring to figure out the gif program and have come to the conclusion that I OFFICIALLY FING HATE GIFCAM!

The stupid window records what ever it wants no matter where I place it. It's infuriating!!!

If one of you gif making wizards could find it in your hart to recommend a better program.

Even better someone make a gif of the seriously amazing foliage part I so sadly botched :)
