Killzone Shadow Fall is the best looking next gen launch game

Just because Cryengine is capable of features doesn't mean that they make it into every game.

According to KKRT00 (who is a Cryengine specialist), they are using pretty much all the features of Cry Engine 3.0 and implementing them into Ryse. All effects are dialed to high or very high with smaa2tx @ 1080p

If they are really putting all these graphical features into Ryse it isn't showing much dividends from it.

The game isn't even the best looking XB1 launch title (which IMO is Forza 5), let alone THE best looking launch title.

Its sibling.

I'm not sure if I'm more impressed with Shadow Fall or what Guerrilla's doing on the Vita. GODDAMN

Looks like a straight up PS3 game.

Actually they will probably be using a new SMAA variant they made. SMAA1tx. It has better temporal stability for transparencies and no longer has ghosting.

wow Shadow Fall has volumetric smoke? notice how the smoke moves to the right after the owl is deployed! :O
Nope. Those are just particles reacting to wind :)

Thats true normally, but we can actually compare some features based on Ryse footage/screenshots and tech presentations to C3 settings.
We also know what Crytek was able to pack up on current-gen consoles, so everything they've packed to current-gen version of C3 is definitely in Ryse.

But i've made one a mistake, i dont know if there is motion blur for particles from very high setting. The screen i was basing info on, had screen per-pixel motion blur applied to them and thats not the same.

That doesn't mean it's volumetric. It's using sprites.

BTW, seems like Ryse is missing the caustics effecs from Crysis 3.

That it is.

Checked out the ultra high res 3.3GB trailer. Definitely using the more precise motionblur. It is the only motionblur that is possible to be used when sprite based bokeh is on (at least in default cryengine). The cokeh does look like quarter instead of half res though admitedly.

Can You upload that video it somewhere? :> Like here? https://www.copy.com

Yep no caustics in Ryse. They quite expensive, even though i used them on my C3 settings, because they add so much to the scene.
It would be nice if there would be some levels or cutscenes in Ryse that would utilize them.

Because the single player is 30? It seems very much like Driveclub in a way, they both went for 30 but was surprised that the competition went for 60.
What I'm getting at is that you're basing you entire argument on a massive assumption, which could be true, but could be entirely incorrect.

Ack. This thread title makes me cringe. That's so subjective it's not funny. From what I've seen of next-gen games, this hasn't been at the top of my "best looking" list at all. But everyone has different tastes.

Its certainly subjective, but the fact that the pre-launch multiplayer side of this game is being called the best looking, is impressive.

Im very curious what SP looks like with and what MP looks like with the last few months of shine on it.

Then why does PS3 owners love Heavy Rain? it's full of QTE. I'm not hating, just curious. And i own both consoles btw...

Because Heavy Rain never was presented as or pretended to be an action title, period. Heavy Rain always was an interactive drama. Plus, the developers previous title was also an interactive drama so they had experience in the genre and everyone knew exactly what to expect.

You know next-gen is upon us as Killzone gifs make their appearances again. One of the most hyped, yet mediocre franchises. It is pretty, though!

It is. The console version of BF4 on the other hand is behind KZSF.
After these recent videos it is hard to argue otherwise. But doesn't Killzone max out at 24 players? 32? Battlefield is on a whole different level in terms of player count and scope of the game. Killzone may as well be a corridor shooter in comparison.

It really is amazing. Even the multiplayer is crazy--half the time I can't believe I'm looking at a handheld game, and I can't wait to see the single player on it. No surprise that Killzone: Shadow Fall is the best looking launch title.

Then I guess no generation has ever been "next gen", considering we've never had consoles where all games were 60fps.

Besides that, though, this game is 60fps in multiplayer, which is what the OP showed.

When I use the term "next gen" I specifically mean, this NEXT generation coming out this year.

Sorry if I didn't specify, because I forgot to quote previous replys. My comment did not necessarily apply strictly to KZ, but a few others had mentioned about other games (possibly a few on the xbone) to not be targeting 60fps.

I was actually rather unsure when I came into this thread as I imagined Ryse to be gorgeous but after seeing screenshots of Ryse I do have to say that Shadow Fall looks so, so much better

How is this even a debate? It blows every other launch title out the water. The only thing that comes close is infamous:ss but that doesn't come out till next year.

because some people won't be able to play this on their console of choice, that's literally the only logical explanation, I don't think any sane person in this thread thinks Ryse looks better than Killzone, looks good in it's own right ok but better than Killzone....not even in bizarro world would that be a fact

Excellent lighting, almost photorealistic.

I don't know what, but I also think there's something about Ryse's lightning that looks very good. Especially if you compare how the game looks in that dark shot to how it looks in the outside (bright) shot. Takes a game that looks pretty bad and makes it look pretty great. Or maybe it's just another effect that's causing that, I don't know.

I wouldn't put it on the level of SF ("Have you seen Shadow Fall??"), but yeah I'll take some of the hits from those stones you guys are throwing at him.

The .gifs and vids of Killzone are making me want to pre-order it, but I already have enough pre-ordered for the Fall......I'll pick it up at some point though

Shadow Fall is quite easily the best looking launch game. Multiplayer looks insanely good, and due to run at 60fps. SP will look even better, and that's at half the frame rate.

Can't see anything topping it till InFamous SS tbh if even that.

Anyone have another link to that MP footage in the OP?

I don't like that particular download service.

for Killzone or Ryse?...

Edit
oh in the OP... it's probably Killzone my bad since the main dicussion here now is Ryse MP I kind of got confused

here you go get it from the source

If I looked outside my window, and the lighting looked like Ryse, or even KZ, then something is seriously wrong. Let's not get carried away here.
Well Killzone has a stylized look, so it makes sense the lighting doesn't look the same as outside our windows.

Killzone does look good, as does Ryse. But any chance we could wait until the actual release of all games and then compare them. We are still a couple of months away from release.

Battlefield 4 is looking quite nice too.
