if so; who will be doing graphs?
Indeed, the poor guy seems to spend more time banned than not.

He tends to get someone else to post his graphs in these threads though, thankfully.

Trust me, there are copies everywhere(I have 62 on hand myself), it's just that demand really shot up in the last few weeks. Along with Wii Fit, Nintendo effectively made sure they make this fad last for at least 6 more months and Wii console sellouts until 2009.
You're a software scalper too? Fuck that dude, don't try to pretend you're "doing me an extra service" or some bullshit.

hehe, in a lot of places scalpers usually get beat up for the bastards that they are.

there's also a demand for cocaine, maybe you should ask him for some as well.

He's moving or some such, so he won't be doing it for a while.

I hope he is back as soon as possible. While I'm glad that CVX has at least been kind enough to start the Media create thread these last couple of weeks, they haven't been the same without Cheese.

I can't remember what I said for my ToS2 prediction a few weeks back, but I think I was relatively close. While ToS2 had a softer debut than a lot of people were expecting (prior to hearing the shipment numbers), it's good to see that the game boosted Wii sales by a bit.

Not sure what to think of MGS4. Will be a struggle to 700K.

Both of MGS4's drops so far have been significantly larger than MGS3's drops over the same time period, from a very similar opening week. Even if it only drops 40% each week from here on out it won't make it to 625k.

i love mgs as much as the next guy,but this "rabid, harcore, loyal fanbase" some ppl were spouting is BS. if the japanese fans were so loyal and hardcore they wouldnt sell the game 3 hours after they beat it.

The MGS fanbase in Japan is devoted: they love the series, they'll invest in the console needed to play it, and they'll play it the day it comes out. That's pretty hardcore. But what actual reason do any of the have to keep the game after that? It's a cinematic game for which playing through it once is the "experience," and if they sell it back within the first four or five days they can get 80+% of their purchase price back. If any of them decide they want to replay the game next year they can just hunt down one of the 50% off used copies that are floating around, rebuy it, and still have spent less in total on the game than launch price.

If those Derby Stallion sales are anything to go by, Nintendo needs to release Mario Yoshi Racing. Sakes alive.

Is horse racing really popular in Japan?

Yes it is. It officially a "Keiba" simulation game. Essentially a horse breeding game, where you buy/sell horses, breed them, feed them, train them, and race them. They use real life horses from the racing circuit, and have a full family lineage of these horses inside the game. You must manage things like estrous cycles, feed/staff/stable costs, and must prep them for racing. Winning races is where you get your funding to buy/sell new horses. Its a pretty deep and involving game.

Derby Stallion is also a long running series that has a strong brand name. Its the Dragon Quest of horse racing simulators. The closest competitor is Koei's Winning Post. In addition, Derby Stallion has been on consoles and PCs since the Famicom days. Its been on almost every system since: NES, SNES, SS, N64, GBA, PS, PS2, PSP, PC,MAC, DOS/V, PC9800, FM-TOWNS, DoCoMo, and now DS. I think Square also made a simplified variant of Derby Stallion called "Chocobo Stallion" which used the Derby Stallion system and play mechanics.

That's not always true. I bought a PS3 the day MGS4 came out, and me and my fiance would probably be considered lower income (between us we make about 40k a year). However, neither of us drink (other than the occasional glass of wine), smoke, do drugs, drive, or have kids.

Our necessary expenses are $1300-1500 a month. This leaves us with a lot of expendible income despite not making very much money overall (I have about $600 a month in disposable income. I usually save at least half of that. My Fiance does the same).

The $1400 it cost to buy all five systems isn't all that much money if you don't drive, don't have kids, and don't waste money on vices like smoking or drinking.

Daigasso over 120k in the first week? Great start. I wonder if they're advertising it much more than the first game in Japan.

+1 from me if they include imports.

I wonder how high Wii Sports can eventually get. It's still near a 50% attach rate...even if we assume that it keeps going down, how much can it sell if Wii reaches a PS2/DS userbase? 6M? 7M?

Disparities like that happen, what's more surprising is the percentage difference for the 360 (even though their numbers are irrelevant statistical noise of that magnitude is very impressive)

Oh ok, thanks. Yeah that is quite a difference.

PS3 sure is falling from grace again. I think it's a clear sign that unless something radical happens, not even a game like MGS4 can help raise the console's sales for more than one or two weeks before it falls back to mediocrity.

I'll translate them formally with next week's Famitsu numbers, but ...

外.信長 7100 Outside. Nobunaga 7100
Some Nobunaga game from Koei. You should be able to find it on GameFAQs.

外.KH2FM+ 2900 Outside. KH2FM + 2900
Probably some BEST/ULTIMATE/LEGENDARY re-release of Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix +.

外.DQFFいたスト 2000 Outside. DQFF 2000 strike.
Re-release of Itagaki Street featuring Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy.

外.金卵 1400 Outside. Kim eggs 1400
The World of Golden Eggs: Nori Nori Rhythm Kei for the Wii.

外.FF12 1100 Outside. FF12 1100
See KH2FM+ explanation.

外.KH2 610 Outside. KH2 610
See KH2FM+ explanation.

Here are the full Japanese names for the last two, which should make it easier to find the English translations.
外.タイメモ上 600 Outside. Notes on Thailand 600
タイトーメモリーズ2 上巻 (エターナル ヒッツ)

外.タイメモ下 590 Outside. Thailand under 590 notes
タイトーメモリーズ2 下巻 (エターナル ヒッツ)

I'm very happy about there being so many "extra" data points with this week. :D

No. It's remaining at a pretty constant position relative to the DS, increasing and decreasing pretty much in step. PS3? Bump. It's coming back down. PSP? New baseline.

Just my opinion, anyways. :p

Great Sadness befalls me. The harvest moon rip-off series is dead. Can't believe I made up 0.05% of the purchases of this game, can't even find anybody else in Japan that has played it. Sad thing is the game actually had a budget and staff. and it really does offer some nice improvements over the typical harvest moon formula.

Anybody have any sales data on the original ps2 version(original release 12/25/2003, simple 2000 version: 1/26/2006? I imagine it had to have sold much better considering it got a simple 2000 release. the original ps2 version is also nicely getting ported to North America if anybody cares

Agreed.

The Wii FPS game is also great. It is essentially the PSP games, except with squad commands, more customization, and a more realistic model of playing. You can't boost for long or anything like that. It is also probably the closest to another Side Story game from the Dreamcast.

Did this game ever make it to NA? I've been dying to play it.

So why is the Wii at #2 place when it sold less than the DS? Could we see an error here? Could it be 58,480 instead? Would make a bit more sense, since ToS2 also came out. Because it didn't exactly cause the Wii any bump at 48,480 which is kinda strange since it's basically the first RPG for the Wii.

Yeah 12000 unit difference is kinda unexceptable. I guess this really shows how much guess work and averaging is involved when making these numbers. Hell, the PS3 may actually be winning the console war and we don't know it!

I kid I kid. But seriously 12000 unit difference with those numbers is about a 20% difference between MC and Fam. That is kinda unexeptable.

Hopefully Derby Stallions gets localized, would love to have a good sports management sim on the DS. Unfortunately the US isn't a big market for that type of game.

There is such a huge difference between the ToS and Wii numbers between Media-Create and Famitsu. Hmm...

I hope DTNW has legs. Do we have any other Tales comparisons?
