I really wish they'd refine the humor of the series. The Juane joke this episode stands out for me here.

Had Weiss just opened the door, had him sing a few notes, and then slam it in his face, that'd have been hilarious and moved on. Instead, they dragged it on, making it lose the humor value, and especially by having him sing awfully more, and let me tell you, humor in awfulness is a very dangerous gambit, because you are still subjecting your audience to the awfulness. I have a pet peeve about annoying sounds, so it grated on me. Besides, characterwise, Weiss slamming the door in his face and leaving it at that, without any more consideration, would have lived more up to the ice queen nature of her name, because she rejects him without even really giving him time to finish. Or go another way, and have her elaborate on how unworthy he is of her to crush him beyond all hope. That might take some of the humor aspect out of it, but it would give him greater impetus to be sad, because right now it's just the same as every other time she has rejected him and still being more important to her ice queen nature. As it is....I mean, this is a guy who hounded her since the first day of the first semester, and she's given numerous cues that she's not interested. I can't begrudge her not bothering with subtlety.

And while I get that his crush is shallow, it's kind of perplexing that he's still pining for her. Weiss says it's the family name, but....I don't pitch Juane as the kind that cares about that. In fact, none of the characters in the show have given 2 shits about her family name (well, blake did, but not in a positive way). So I don't know if this is a case of telling, not showing, or if Juane really just likes his waifu's white and bitchy.

The humor with the show is one of the things I tend to have the most problem with, which is a bit depressing since I think their other work is quite funny. Had they done what you said then it would have been a nice funny bit. Add to that my continued confusion as well regarding this Jaune going after Weiss thing. I remembered him hitting on her a few times the first season, but figured he'd gotten over it. He doesn't seem the type to care about that much either. I wouldn't mind him perhaps explaining why he's attracted to her.

And goddamn his obliviousness regarding Phyrra irritates me.

I'm still curious what Cinder's actual goal for all this is. Wanton chaos and destruction of Beacon's best and brightest I can get, but what's the ultimate endgame for this. Take over the world? Watch the world burn?

Also I liked Cinder when she was some evil mastermind. But why does she run around masquerading as a schoolgirl? It's just a tad ridiculous that she's talking about her evil plans with the seductive villain voice cranked up to 11 in the middle of a dormitory. She has to be the most unconvincing student in existence.

sparring matches were cool, sly Mercury doing some scouting. Weiss still the Ice Queen. That scene did drag on a bit but was still pretty funny. I think Blake is going hit a wall if she keeps up what she is doing, it might be bad for RWBY in the end. And lol at Jaune oblivious to Pyrrah, saw it coming. And Cinder, what is she planning? What is this list? AHHHH!!!

This episode left me wanting, hurry up next Thursday...

My thoughts for this episode.

- Pyrrha was amazing. It was a nice surprise to see them open with a sparring scene.

- Team CRDL had a better showing here than in the last season even though they still lost.

- I was crossing my fingers that Mercury would pick out Yang as his opponent. It'll happen someday.

- Mercury is badass.

- Seems that Mercury and presumably Emerald and Cinder are scouting for students that could be a threat to whatever they're planning.

- I hope Jaune eventually moves on from Weiss. I don't want to see him pining for her in all of his appearances.

- I chalk up his obliviousness for Pyrrha to him thinking that she wouldn't have any interest in him due to their difference in prowess. Noted how he mentioned that she probably already has more capable suitors asking her out which would mean that he thinks he has no chance (so why even start kind of thing).

- Jaune's guitar scene was alright. Like I said before I don't want the majority of his appearances to be focused around getting shutdown by Weiss. If they do do that it kind of cheapens the development he's gone through so far (season 1). That development needs to continue.

- So semblances can be discovered through training. I imagine that Jaune's is probably defense oriented given his armaments and his position as the team leader.

- Blake is probably going to burn herself out. Her rematch with Torchwick will not go well in her current state. She has the most stake in the situation with the White Fang and given her history with them it makes sense that she wants to get to the bottom of what they're doing with Torchwick (also considering that it was her who wanted to investigate outside of Beacon in the first place).

- Mercury versus Yang needs to happen.

First off, I wouldn't worry one bit about Juane x Pyrrha. In the S2 trailer they show stuff from the dance and it gets really obvious where that's going.

Pyrrha is the most videogamey fighting character. She did a goddamn airjuggle for goodness sake! She was pisssssssssed when Mercury gave up. I could feel it in her burning hatred/disappointed stare.

It's really obvious Blake is gonna burn out really really bad right about next episode. Why does she haven't the biggest sense of justice in the group? Because it involves the White Fang?

Our RWBY girls don't know the "Dance Rejection Heartbreak". Not like Juane didn't fucking beg for it though. That bit of humor was super cringe. They should have kept that dead after the first slam in the face. Dude needs to see Pyrrha so we can be done with this sub-plot. The show will improve when it's wrapped up. But not until after one more Juane x Pyrrha rooftop hearttalk.

The girl talk real talk this episode was good though. Good to see they do this every once in a while. They're such good teammates/roommates for each other.

Actually, I hope the drama ends by next (The Dance) next (The Fallout From The Dance) episode. I don't want them overspending their drama allowance like they did in S1.

And, Cinders rigging was just noticeably bad. But was she sewing up a new Dust dress?

It seems they've wisened up and decided to pair drama with action. I hope they do it next week too. Because this was by my opinion the weakest episode so far, but far better than any School Episode from S1.

I say that, but I've already watched it 3 times =)

EDIT : Oh yeah. Cinder! You're way too old to be pretending to be a schoolgirl! Seriously!

The only kinds of enemies that get dispatched by the ranged component of a weapon are usually grunts unless the ranged component is the main component of the weapon or the user employs some risky gambit that ends up surprising their opponent leaving them unable to defend themselves in time.

You can think of it as something like hadoukens in street fighter, used for ranged pressure and controlling spacing, not really your main way of dealing damage given that all of your other moves and specials are melee.

We all know Juane is gonna be a huge badass come Season 4. And hopefully, a bit more perspective.

Maybe even sooner than that, since he'll be discovering his semblance any day now!

I agree that the sparring part at the beginning was amazing. I'm excited because I think we're going to get a bunch of a fights like that this season because of what's currently going on in the story.

That's too bad. I'm going to take a guess though that the season 3 premiere will be at next years RTX. I think the dates line up correctly if we look at season 1 > 2. Finish current season late in the year, reveal next one at next year's RTX.

Well PC is a no brainer. Depending on how polished it is I think we could see it on some consoles too.

It remains to be seen since that episode isn't out yet but I like all of the little references they've dropped so far (Ruby loving cookies, Yang versus the Ursas/translation of Junior's name, Jaune and Cardin/Joan of Arc and Henry Beaufort, etc).

I've always been sad with myself that I didn't ask a question at a RWBY panel at RTX and get myself a free copy there. But now, it's almost time. Then I can see the commentaries and stuff! And watch RWBY whenever I want. Then after that is a Sponsership so I can watch the episodes at a reasonable time. Then after that is saving money for the Soundtrack through Google Surveys.

Yeahhhh... I'm a little bit poor. I'm all on top of that free money companies give out though.

I'm not sure which episode it's from. I've only seen clips of RvB on youtube.

I'm actually thinking of watching it now. I know that the crazy action doesn't start until the later seasons but it can't hurt to give it a try.
