Pachter: John Riccitiello fears losing his job as EA CEO (update: just "a bad joke")

Update

Another source is saying that Peter Moore will be replacing Riccitiello soon:

It will most likely be announced after this quarter's investor meeting which would take place on July 30.

Original

EA president John Riccitiello fears he is at risk of losing his job over the publisher’s falling stock, according to US analyst Michael Pachter.

The media pundit told an audience at the Develop Conference that the EA president confided in him about the company’s falling stock.

Pachter and Riccitiello met last week for lunch and during this, Riccitiello told Patcher that he fears for his job.

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
Riccitiello had some great ideas for EA Partners, and some other initiatives, but many just haven't panned out. Hell, the EA Partners initiative was total smoke and mirrors. They didn't spend a dime marketing any of those titles.

So Riccitiello will be the CEO until 2054, and then again from 2082 onward when his cryogenically frozen body is thawed out and turned into a cyborg?

If they are Dutch, upright and breathing they are more racist than your favorite player
Well, if Pachter thinks so then we can be certain that whats happening is exactly the opposite.

Are we really trying to say that Pachter is making shit up about the possibility of someone losing his job when all things seem to be leaning in that direction? None of you can't really be that dense.

Fuzzy

I would bang a hot farmer!
Riccitiello: "Mike can I tell you something in confidence?"
Pachter: "Sure buddy."
Riccitiello: "EA stock prices have been falling and I think I'm going to lose my job."
Pachter: "Don't worry, it'll stay between you and me."

Pachter then tells everyone which causes even more downward pressure on EA stock. :p

Remind me not to confide in Michael Pachter

Seriously though Riccitiello should be worried; the last time EA was cool in any way was 2008 when they put out Dead Space 1 and Mirrors Edge.

Good. I hope it keeps him up at night and he can't get a moment's rest in his head.

Even though when they fire him I'm sure they'll send him away with a nice multi million dollar parting gift. I'm trying to get any victory I can here.

Can you elaborate?

#developconf Michael Pachter - Nintendo what a messed up company. They don't know what they're doing

#developconf Michael Pachter I think the Wii U will be an abysmal failure. The next Xbox will be your TV receiver

‪#developconf‬ Michael Pachter - Nintendo is at risk of going away in the next decade. You only need to make a couple of bad decisions...

And then he said, its thanks to call of duty the traditional games industry has already died. Its finished.

Trying to count the number of times people have bet against Nintendo and been wrong #pachter #developconf

This probably isn't untrue.

Riccitello has been feeding investors rope and backing away for years now.

Battlefield 3 is probably going to keep him in that position for a while longer, though.

Battlefield 3 did not reach Call of Duty heights and SWTOR isn't taking off. They're doing well in mobile but Riccitiello needed one or both of those things for EA to not lose faith in him, too many eggs placed in those baskets and too much red ink. Would be surprised if he was still in charge by the end of the year, they've given him rope for long enough.

Well it did become the Worst Company in America while he was running it, after all
Only because of internet voting.

Maybe not exactly like Call of Duty, but BF3 did sell 15 million copies. I'd say it is pretty good compared to CoD.

To be fair they went from being awful to being awesome and losing money (we got Burnout Paradise with a year of free support, Mirror's Edge and Dead Space in 2008) to being awful again.

I don't see this as a cause for either joy or sarcasm. Disregarding the shadiness of the Bioware/Pandemic aquisition his original mission statement was exactly the approach I felt the games indusrty needed to take. This failure is bad and we should feel bad.

Was he dishonest from the start? Did he lack the conviction to carry his plans through? Did we, as the games buying public, fail by falling for the CODs and the Guitar Heroes? Whatever the cause, we're at a point where instead of hoping for a Mirror's Edge sequel I fear it.

Why would Pachter reveal info from a private conversation like this? That's a shitty thing to do, even if it's EA. I hope he just burned his last bridge. What a dick.

Seriously, a private lunch they have together and Riccetello confides in him and he just blurts it out in public? Doesn't make sense and sounds really unprofessional.

Why....why would Pachter publicly state something told to him presumably in some sort of confidence? I'm confused.

Tragic victim of fan death
People are blowing the "ate with lunch and told Pachter in confidence." out of proportion. Nowhere in the article does it state that Riccitello told in confidence to Pachter that he fears losing his job. Stop skewing words and actually read the article please.

It's safe to assume that Riccitiello didn't want the fact that he fears losing his job as CEO going public, don't you think?
