Sony should have made the triggers so if you click one side of one of the triggers, for example, L, you can click on the left of it and have L1 and if you click the right side of the same trigger, it becomes L2. Could have helped with PS4 streaming.

I am happy it is at least not all glossy like the red/blue/white models of the 1000. The back and grips should be a lot easier to hold.

I really want the light blue one... guess if they don't announce anything here in the next few months I'll just have to import!

I just noticed this thread. I should have mine by the weekend if I'm lucky, or early less week if I'm not so lucky. It just shipped today from Amiami. They were $70 cheaper than Play-Asia (where I usually shop for import stuff).

EDIT: Amiami is sold out of all models except the black/pink one:

19,929 yen. If interested, get it while you can as they usually do not restock hardware once they sell out.

Looks like Light Blue is the best selling after the all black model. I saw on twitter JohnTV bought one as well!

And Amazon Japan shipped my vita stuff to my friend for delivery on the 10th. Hoping he can ship out to me the same day with the fastest shipping possible.

I didn't know they switched the O and X buttons in Japan. Bizarre. Has it been like that for every PlayStation product?
Well, circle and x have different connotations in Japan with circle being a positive and x being negative. For example, on a test in school correct answers might be circled while wrong answers will have an X.

the upside to a propietary data cable is that it'll fit snug and tight.. microUSB tends to fall out with any minor movement.

I think it is a worthwhile trade off. Much easier to find a micro usb cable when in a pinch than an Vita cable. The proprietary memory is the other thing that would have been nice to see gone.

Given that I already have a OG vita I have to ask......would it be worth while to get this model? Will psx/psp games look better on this edition?

So... what do you guys think? Deal, or no deal? For €179:

- PS Vita WiFi + 3G
- Killzone Mercenary
- 8 GB memory card

Or is the redesigned PS Vita that amazing that I shouldn't get an 'old' OLED model?

EDIT It should be noted that I am not a real portable gamer, so all the games I'll own will be through PS+ (see list below). I'm thinking more ahead, namely PlayStation 4, and while it still remains to be seen whether or not Remote Play will work as advertised: I'm excited for it. Last but not least, we don't have something like Black Friday here and I personally think I won't find a better deal even in November/December.

Already dowloaded through PS+:
- New Little King's Story
- Urban Trial Freestyle
- When Vikings Attack!
- Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus
- Unit 13
- Unchartd: Golen Abyss
- Gravity Rush
- Sine Mora
- Coconut Dodge Revitalised
- Rayman Origins
- Top Adventatures Rotating Octopus (lol, what?)
- Touch My Katamari
- STREET FIGHTER X TEKKEN

So, basically, for my idea, I've got quite some PS Vita games already without even owning the system. As I said, I'm not planning on buying any PS Vita games so all I'll have is PS+. Also, I'm looking forward to PS4 Remote Play.

It's a very good deal imo, and no, redesigned PS Vita is not that amazing to pass over this.

Well its pretty much confirmed now that the screen is worse, but everything else is much better. I you haven't seen the OLED version in person then you probably won't notice the difference. Still going to buy it though.

It's not as good but still a nice looking LCD.

There are a lot of new comparison shots (1000 vs 2000) on Watch Impress today.

http://game.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/news/20131010_618925.html

The picture below was the most interesting to me, as it shows both the thinness of the 2000, as well as its wider shoulder buttons, which are said to be much more comfortable and easier to press. I was not aware they had widened the shoulder buttons. There also seems to be a little more space between the four action buttons and the right analog stick, which is nice.

Here's another good one:

Not necessarily. Stuck (and even dead) pixels can be switched back to normal state if its neighbors are constantly acting normally.

There's no guarantee though, and it's more trouble than it's worth for most.

Ah I see. Thanks! Do you know what the chances are to get a dead pixel and how does one get it? Is it random?

My understanding is it IS permanent if it's on OLED, but not so on LCD. Basically it remains stuck on one color (red in my case), and never changes. Since it's an OLED, the red pixel lights up brightly and is extremely distracting.

Here is a pick of mine.

Damn, that really is distracting :( Permanent just makes it worse. Really sucks.

The OG PS Vita was Super AMOLED+ btw (not SAMOLED as in the list), it had RGB stripe rather than PenTile in Super AMOLED. PS Vita, Galaxy Tab 7.7 and the Galaxy S2 are the only devices I know which used the technology, every other mobile SAMOLED uses RGBG (PenTile) or some variation.

With the end of the OG Vita, so goes RGB OLED for mobile as well. I don't see Samsung continuing the manufacture of SAMOLED+ without any devices using it.

End of an era guys.

Still, the LCD is probably around a third of the cost and should lead to future price reductions and more Vita owners!

You seem knowledgable about all this tech, what are the chances of being able to transplant the AMOLED screen into the new model?

As upset as I am to see OLED go, I'm a bit more thrilled with the prospect of additional Vita owners due to future price cuts.

As far as I know it's always been controlled via software rather than it being hardware related. PS1, PS2 and PS3 games from Japan often switch the controls for menu selection even when used on a Western system.

It's down to X symbolising an incorrect choice in Japanese. I've always thought it would be nice if the option to switch was selectable in the consoles settings menu and that carried across to games.

It's because, in Japan, O (maru) mean's correct while X (batsu) means incorrect; X is decline while O is confirm, unlike in the West.

Edit: I was ninja'd... by about 15 mins. Pardon me.

Yay! My Vitas and accessories are on their way via EMS. Should have the stuff Monday or Tuesday depending on US customs.
Oooh maybe I'll ask my friend to ship mine + Vita TV (rather than wait till Christmas) if the workers at the local post office aren't going all mental with lithium batteries being shipped out of Japan (should be ok according to this, but you never know).

They did take like 30 minutes to look up the Vitas to make sure they can be shipped, but afterwards they had no issues.
