I know how to acquire the DT label is completely arbitrary, but I believe you should average >500 rushing yards per season. I don't think Blake Sims rushing for 350 yards his senior year would make him DT, especially considering he rushed for under 200 yards in his Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior seasons. I know the strength of defenses you're playing are a factor, so if you're rushing for a similar amount of yards compared to your teams runningback then that would also make you DT

Rivals lets you search for recruits (as far back as 2002) based on Pro-Style or Dual Threat.

Unsurprisingly the #1 DT QB in 2002 was Vince Young. #2 was Marcus Vick. Tyler Palko, who rushed for 88 yards in his college career was also on the list that year.

Looking through the list of DT QBs from 2002 and 2003 I realize how few of these guys I ever heard of, a lot of them apparently changed positions, like Robert Lane the #1 DT QB in 2003 who ended up as a tight end. Or Tom Zbikowski who never even played QB in college.

Brian Brohm, Graham Harrell, Nate Longshore, Sean Glennon, Erik Ainge and Drew Weatherford were all dual threat QBs according to Rivals. It seems like 2004 was the point when signing a DT QB didn't mean getting a guy who would probably switch positions as there are a lot of other recognizable names on that list.

Marc "Butt Fumble" Sanchez was a dual threat QB. So was Colt McCoy. Edit: Actually clicking on his profile shows him as a Pro-Style, so maybe rivals search just sucks.

Also I had no idea Billy Cundiff was a QB at one point.

Michael Thomas has declared, #8.

Always remember him for the catch/play in the sugar bowl

yeah, fuck that catch. I mean, Alabama's defense main goal is to force the QB's to make perfect throws to get through small windows, and Cyrus defended that as well as he could in his spot, but perfect throw and landing will always win. But a perfect throw from a wideout is even rarer. A play that's a difference between a win and being tied at the end of regulation.

Would have been incomplete with NFL rules. Alabama gets their players ready for the NFL so the DB did his job by NFL standards

ugh this is a bad deal for A&M. Alumni is really restless. No one really was upset about the season, but once the QBs starting leaving, everyone got nervous about the direction of the program under Sumlin. He really needs a good 2016

But hey, Spavital and A&M have "mutually parted ways", so that's nice. Now nobody can say that Sumlin fired two coordinators in back to back years.

Spavital was considered a genius not that long ago. Something tells me that he isn't really the problem.

he basically got in arguments with nobodies in an argument topic (i.e. the entire OT), and a nobody took offense, and you can see what happened next. Think Bert also took offense to Cyan's compatriots URbanned message.

This I don't recall. Earlier in the year there was a breakdown of the offensive performance. Yardage was trending up but points were flat and red zone percentage was going down. Basically, we were becoming a big play or bust offense. Not good, as the offensive output in our losses (and some wins) showed.

As far as expectations, A&M was averaging about 7-5 in the Big12 while I was there. Averaging 8 or 9 wins in the SEC is just fine with me. Just don't embarrass the school.

Who was the reporter? Because I've never heard such a stupid fucking question asked of one of our coaches... ever.

I don't think the media person that tweeted it attributed it to anyone. I'm assuming they didn't allow general public in the session with Dabo. Are you saying it was a Clemson beat writer or national media person? Nobody would ask that question to Saban because they know what his reaction would be.

Pretty cool article on how in game coaching and playcalling is handled at Bama.

As you might expect, Saban doesn't have time for idle talk over the headsets.

Yeah, I've had talks with someone with 2nd hand knowledge of the headsets at Alabama, and yeah, stick to the basic facts you need to present and god help you if you get chatty. Oh, and yes, there were times, over the headsets, where Saban "politely" nudged Lane into running the ball earlier in the year.

I remember reading something about how the Chip Kelly era Oregon system worked. Very similar, as I would imagine any well-run staff operates. The offensive booth guy had something like 7 seconds max to relay the next play to the field.

I don't know. I just know I've never heard of any coach here, not just Saban, ever being asked that stupid ass question before, so I wouldn't just assume it was a Bama beat writer who asked it.

Beat writers for any team don't, or shouldn't, ask that kind of question. At least I'd hope not. Though the lines between beat writer and a columnist can sometimes get blurred. Anyway, I just thought it was a funny question and assumed it was from the Alabama side due to asking him if he thinks of God's voice as being that of Bear Bryant.

Listening to that Herman interview now. Pretty stupid how they're doubling down on the "meat of the article being correct." The longer the interview goes the more belligerent these guys get. What a bunch of shitheads. Good luck getting any future info out of Houston in the future.

Holy shit at one of the hosts asking him if he can have lunch with Herman in the future and Herman replying "Absolutely not."
