Bojack Horseman Season 3 |OT| Everyday It Gets a Little Easier

Raphael Bob-Waksberg has a gift. He's writing the Lego movie sequel too.

Todd's
speech in EP10 is still hitting me like a ton of bricks.

Just finished it. Amazing season once again. I'll echo the people saying how well this show portrays depression. At least, the way they portray it really resonates with me.

I've been having a really rough time lately, and I cried straight through episode 12
over Sarah Lynn's death
and am still going 10 minutes later. For whatever reason, that whole thing really struck a chord with me. I mean, how the hell can Bojack as a character
possibly be redeemed now? He did a lot of bad shit before, and was a general asshole, but he clearly put that girl on the path he himself was going on, not to mention the "epic bender" that eventually actually killed her.
I don't see how this series ends up with anything not on the order of him straight up killing himself, because I genuinely don't see how we come out of this with everything hunky-dory, or even any kind of semblance of hunky-dory.

I also really liked the parts where
Sarah Lynn actually got real about the pain she felt.
I know the character's exaggerated and whatnot, but ignoring that part of it... I don't know what it was about that character, but it just hit me like a ton of bricks.

Oh, and
what's up with that deer lady (forgot her name) calling Bojack at the end there?
What's the implication being made there?

If I'm not mistaken, that wasn't one of the deer ladies, that was a teenage(?) horse. As for the implications, given Bojack's suspicion that not all of the women he got pregnant and paid to have abortions actually got them, she might be one of his bastards.

EDIT: my post is in reponse to Heckler's comments. Forgot to quote.

Oh alright, thanks for clearing that up. Like I said, I was quite literally crying throughout that entire episode, so that probably made me miss it.

This season hit me really hard, never felt this depressed from an animated show. Might just be my favorite season so far and it will be a long wait for the next one.

It really is an incredible show. As someone who has had lifelong issues with depression, it hits so hard.

Like others, I might just restart the entire series

This show would be impossible for me to watch if Mr Peanutbutter wasn't there. I remember thinking he was annoying, but now I realize the show needs that kind of character. He's basically the one thing stopping the show from being too bleak and depressing.

I'm really not connecting with this show at all. I enjoy watching it but I am not getting the same experience as you all.

A lot of it seems forced. It's a good watch (especially the undersea episode) but it's not god tier writing or anything like that.

Given the implications of the last episode, hopefully Bojack starts finding some redemption in the coming seasons. Even though he's a good study on a self-destructive, depressed, unfulfilled person, you can only do that for so long.

Ghostbusters star Dan Aykroyd has a very expensive and distinctive line of vodka. Niche reference.

Who's that dog?

I need that ringtone.

Episode 4 of this season was one of my favorites of this show.
Bojack becoming less of a piece of shit is great to watch and I totally fucking called it that his suit had a fucking button on it to communicate and he wouldn't figure that out till the end of the episode!!!

Episode 11 was predictable as hell. Still didn't take the wind out of the punch when it inevitably happeened. In fact I thought it made it worse, especially after that fakeout.

Finished the season yesterday. In the words of Todd.....Fuck man.

The back and forth about Diane being "a Vietnamese Daria" was hilarious to me. The resemblance is definitely there.

Episode 4 was a brutal watch, I almost wanted to skip it but didn't in case something actually happened.

I finished the season on Sunday afternoon. I'm not as into the show as everyone here seems to be, it was a pretty decent season. I felt sad for Bojack when
Sarah Lynn passed away while they were in the theater.

Might wanna spoiler tag that bit for some people.

Jeez this show is amazing, this season made me laugh more then i remember but it still stuck to its dark theme, possibly better then season 2. Either way they were atleast equal and Bojack once again proves it is by far the best netflix original.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
I am still unsure if Judah is supposed to be a specific joke/parody or not

He is like a hipster robot that is the ultimate personal assistant. He's basically Karl from the Simpsons with danker hair and not nearly as smooth.

Something I actually liked quite a bit is that they didn't go any of the routes I thought they were going to with him. He's flat and very emotionless but as he said to PC when she tore into him a bit, he's still human he just isn't very expressive.
But then you get moments like his obvious hesitance and loyalty to PC regarding offering to be bought out by that stupid frog and the stack of holiday cards with Judah's saying how much she appreciates him and her realizing how much he actually does for her. He's really very loyal to her and just a good guy all around. He doesn't go robot on her with the hidden offering, betray her or be cold and ruthless
. He actually cares quite a bit.

I felt the exact same way when I started watching the show.

He's now my favourite.

I think it's great that Mr. Peanutbutter is a cartoon character, Bojack is a character who happens to be a cartoon and Todd is kinda inbetween.

It makes for an interesting dynamic when it comes to the different stories being told with them.

I thought Mr. PB would be my least favorite character at the start but he quickly rose to maybe being my favorite. His shit with Diane and especially the 2nd season, his whole game show storyline and sit down talk with Bojack really brought him up a lot in my eyes. His laying into him on the show was super fucking rough.

What's funny is that Bojack Horseman is the type of show the characters would kill to be involved with. New, talented, experimental, deep. What other show would tackle (ep6)
an abortion happening to a long-term couple in their mid-30s rather than the standard teen pregnancy where the debate is a trite "I'm a kid, I'm clearly not ready"?
You look at stuff like The Simpsons that's just eating its own tail and repackaging the same old shit with a few hail mary celebrity guest stars.

One thing I didn't like is Diane suddenly attaching herself to causes just to pick fights with people. Seemed a little out of left-field and wasn't developed enough. Each cause lasted for about 1 episode and didn't really have any good pay-off. Her character seems to be in a holding pattern.

The song in episode 6 had me rolling. The visuals sent it over the top.

Not to mention it's catchy as hell.

I just thought that him being a competent assistant but at the same time having child like unawareness of social norms/situations was kinda funny. Like a civilized, corporate version of Drax from the Guardians of the galaxy movie.

The thing is Diane is a bad person herself who thinks she's a good person, she clings to those causes because she thinks fighting for what's "right" makes her a good person, even tho she's doing it for totally selfish reasons, she keeps doing it because she doesn't want to accept her flaws, going as far as blaming Bojack for them (saying she goes bad when they're together) but in reality it's her avoiding dealing with her demons, and she just keeps falling in the same cycle (like many characters in the show) hence her arc ending with her
yet again being willing to destroy her husband's career if it fits her needs, which definitely will be a fucking big deal now that MPB might run for governor.

Finished the season last night and it was great (though emotionally devastating obviously). Felt like instead of laying out the horribleness in one episode the creators doled it out over the last several. It was pretty horrifying to see Bojack's downward spiral in such detail, but there were still plenty of laughs around it. Honestly the dichotomy made it even worse.

"I want to be an architect" is a hell of a line to go out on. That and wanting to go to the planetarium said so much about what Sarah could have been.

I wonder if Bojack's blackouts are going to reappear in season 4. At times it seemed like there was something deeper going on besides just being intoxicated.

I think the thing about Diane is that while she is very different than Bojack, she shares the trait where she knows she can be better, but she is afraid of that. She is afraid to be the person she knows she has the talent to be and she uses these causes as a shield against actually living up to her own potential.

Got up to episode 10 before I have to go off to work. I don't think I'm ready for what these next episodes hold. (E10 spoilers)
Once again they just nail the perfect time to drop the word fuck with Todd's "...Fuck man." at the end of his rant. Just perfect.

Also I liked that gag on the board when they were listing the Oscar nominees with black people? being crossed off under best actor.

Joke further enhanced by the fact that
All the nominees save for Bojack had the exact same face, which explains why they had parodies instead of real actors as usual.
