Bojack Horseman Season 3 |OT| Everyday It Gets a Little Easier

This season is still sinking in, I liked where it went but something about it just didn't hit as hard as the last two. But I still really liked it even if it's my least favorite season so far.

it definitely brought the laughs and some complex feels but i feel like the detour with Sarah Lynn was kinda rushed and just served to throw bojack back to where he began. Last season's ending really made me think we would get some actual progress for him at least.

Todd's asexuality was a really cool scene

I feel like, in many ways, that is the point. To put the viewer in the same position as Bojack's loved ones. Watch him fuck up over and over, promise to get better and then just do something worse. I think it's meant to have our relationship with him mirror his genera relationship pattern. It mirrors self-destructive behavior well too.

What about a Bojack videogame? My dream scenario would be for a Bojack game developed by Konami as a 4 player beat em up.

BoJack the arcade game, a la Simpsons arcade game, would be perfect. 90's graphics and everything.

This is something i didn't know i wanted.

The only downside would be that, to perfectly do it, it would have to be done as an in universe videogame based in horsing around and Mr. Peanutbutter's house, a crossover if you will, which would mean no Todd, no Princess Carolyn and all that.

Or a Bojack arcade game as a Capcom brawler, where everybody has a life bar and eating a pork chop regains your full life.

I don't recall the Simpsons arcade game playing faithfully to the internal rules or logic to the television series.

Please don't let Bojack fuck his daughter. Please don't let Bojack fuck his daughter...

I think I'd like just quit the series if it got that bad.

Finished it and I have the same feeling I had at the end of season 2 except stronger:

Bojack is a asshole and a piece of shit beyond redemption
and is constantly fucking up other people's lives and it seems the show is moving into a place where everyone else's lives are actually better when he isn't around fucking it up.

Here's a question for anyone following this and other animated shows. Based on interviews from the creators, producers, etc., does this show look like it will have 10+ years to it, or will they probably try to wrap it up by season 7?

Unless they come up with a crazy new direction I would like next season to be the last to be honest. A few things this season felt really repetitive and I would hate for the show to have a really bad season and sour everyone on it. They should stop before they run it into the ground. If Bojack gets some kind of redemption next season with his daughter, that would be a good place to stop.

I keep walking in the room when my brother is watching Bob's burgers and the kid in that has the same voice as kid Sarah Lynn. The feels *_*

Does anyone believe that this show has enough good will at Netflix that they'll be able to complete their story? I'm watching Sense8, and while I'm enjoying the show so far and feel that it has long term potential, I worry that it could end up being a casualty of its own lofty ambitions and end up being canceled.

Of course! I mean it already got renewed for next season. Plus, the show is critically acclaimed.

Considering season 4 was announced the morning season 3 premiered Netflix is probably more than happy with how the show's doing.

This discussion has made me realize that none of Netflix's current stable of prestige shows have wrapped up. There's really no precedence to draw from as a working frame of reference like HBO, Showtime, or AMC. Someone in this thread said that he believes that the showrunners seem more intent on it being a finite story. But since this is their first animated series, and a successful one at that, that there might be the temptation to replicate Fox's business model by creating their own animated block centering around Bojack as their legacy show.

And could the success of Bojack spur HBO to begin producing their own original animation block? I really love that Netflix is giving HBO a run for its money. It's the shot in the ass they need to allay stagnancy.

I'm finding it hard to like Bojack anymore. I mean he was always troubled, but at least he was gray and seemed redeemable. Now he's past that point in my opinion. Makes watching the show harder.

I'll still watch the show for the fun animal puns and the other characters but Bojack is a bad horse.

Finally caught up on this show. I was sleeping on it for a long time.

Hated the first episode but power through it and man, season 3 hit me like a ton of bricks. Mainly,
because I identified so strongly with the Sarah Lynn character, I could seriously see myself spiraling in that direction of self-destruction.
Basically, this show has given me a lot to think about.

I feel like blocks are designed to build rating firewalls to defeat competitors nights of programming.

Netflix doesn't really have that motivation.

Reading through this thread has me feeling even worse for Bojack. I mean, his problems are clearly his own, but a lot of his issues suggest some greater mental health concerns are in play (Hence the episode with "The Closer" basically being Bojack receiving psychotherapy... to sell him on a newspaper subscription).

Sure, his actions bring a lot of people down (Which he seems to realize now), but I strongly disagree with the "drowning" metaphor, and I feel the writers weren't expecting us to agree with it, either. It'll be tough to get Bojack to land, but
after 2 suicide attempts in roughly the span of a couple weeks
, it definitely seems like he's at a point where he may be open to change. I honestly feel next season'll be where Bojack finally makes those steps forward, especially because
it looks like there's more than enough drama to go around between the other 4 main characters
.

I binged watched this recently. Mr. Peanut Butter was my favorite character this season. He may be a bit annoying sometimes, but he I feel like he's one of the only "good" characters on the show. He causes several problems for the people in his life, but ultimately, he actually brings good things into their lives. I'm also glad his hometown didn't end up being some secretly twisted place. It really shows how much a positive home environment effects the type of person you end up being.

Underwater episode was amazing. Easily one of the most engaging episodes the show has ever done.

Sarah Lynn dying didn't effect me at all. The character was too absent for me to feel anything from her death, and she was too cartoonishly annoying for me to see her as a real person. That being said, her death certainly paid off when Bojack realized he might potentially ruin that young girl the same way he did Sarah Lynn.

This season was pretty good, but I agree with the other posters saying it was slightly repetitive. Last season ended with a promise for redemption, but instead we got another spiral of self-destruction. Many of the tense confrontations had the wind taken out of them because of how often we had seen those same conflicts in the past.

hot, steaming, as melted butter slips into the cracks, drizzled with sticky sweet syrup OH GOD
Wow just binged watched the entire 3 seasons. Bojack is such a toxic disgusting character and yet I still want to root for him. I want him to succeed but he always dashes my hopes in the worst possible way. It's always episode 11 that have the hardest hits.

Season 2 EP 11
Trying to molest the 17 year old daughter of a women you knew for 5 minutes 30 years ago because she won't sleep with you and solve your emptiness is beyond wrong.

Season 3 EP 11
The death of Sarah Lynn hit me pretty hard. She's was cartoony character but seeing her go down the path of destruction because of Bojack was tough. Ana was basically right when she told the story about being a lifeguard and not being able to save people.

Can't wait for season 4 but I guess I need to watch some other shows for a little while while I wait.

I'm not sure he tried to molest her just to get back at Charlotte, that's not what I took from that moment anyway.

It was more that he stopped trying to stop it happening, like, he just didn't care about anything any more. He was willing to fight for Charlotte, but when she rejected him he had no fight left for anything.

Halfway s3 now, so not reading too many posts itt yet, but I think the underwater ep may be my favorite of the series so far. Great idea that was executed very well. Already preparing myself for the final episodes, those always hit hard. Even considering the show's themes, the end of s2e11 was still a surprise.

Huh? She's black.

I mean I knew she was supposed to be black, but every other black character in the show looks like this:

meanwhile, ana looks like this:

maybe my phone screen is fucked up because she looked legit green when I was watching the show

She's just a different tone, she's clearly black and not green though.

I now realize I was blazed out of my mind when I watched half of this season so I get to watch it all over again.

Just finished season 2. After episode eleven, this show went from a great time waster to one of my favorite animated cartoons ever.

S3E11, the one where Bojack and Saralynn go on a bender...

This show can get REALLY dark sometimes.

Also, Mr. Peanut Butter is the BEST. Talk about a character who grows on you.

I loved Mr Peanut butter from the start :) Can't wait until I can get a dog of my own so I can name him the same.

Just finished season 3 and I'm devastated. Fell for the Sarah Lynn arc hook, line and sinker. Didn't help that I was stoned out of my mind during most of it. Time to rewatch seasons 1 and 2, with some Mr Robot thrown in for good measure.

That's not necessarily wrong, but you gotta remember that EVERYONE in that show is a fucked up individual. Being around each other makes them more miserable, but being alone doesn't help much either. Hell, just look at
Princess Carolyn, and how she's going down the same path that made her extremely miserable for all these years, even after she found herself "free" from Bojack.

I love that silly dog, but I can see him having a breakdown like the other characters in Season 4.

Oh yeah, a friend of mine told me something about Princess Carolyn that makes some sense and would break her heart in the next season.
He
thinks that her current boyfriend, the rat dude, has toxoplasmosis. This parasite apparently "reprogrammes host brains to change fear to sexual attraction" as it was shown that rats infected with it stop fearing cats and are attracted by them. In their first date they realized how weird it is for a cat and a mouse to even like each other or have a date together, so that would explain how the rat dude is fine with him. I can totally see him getting "cured" next season then stopping liking PC, maybe even fear being around her. Her love life being caused by a parasite is just too sad to not be used in the show.

The fourth episode really is something. Genius? I love the ending. "Oh, you've got to be kid--" Hahahahaha!

The payoff with the spaghetti strainers was absolutely god like.

I know.

Part of the reason it works so well is because the entire season, we're wondering what could possibly happen to justify the running gag.

So they just create something completely out of left field.

Got through season 3. This show really gets dark every once in a while.
Started out liking it during season one, love it now.

I can see them going for a redemption arc. Bojack is at rock bottom right now.
he caused a death, he wants to die, he lost all of his friends
After this point, they can only go up. I could see them wrapping it up in 2-3 seasons - ending on a happy note, but with a dark cliffhanger.

I love how episode 5 ends in the middle of a word and episode 6 resumes at the end of word. Why is this show so genius?

With the way the show has been going, I don't see any sort of redemption arc in Bojack's future. They'll tease it but Bojack will fuck up even harder.
