One thing I loved about the end of this season is how Bojack claims he's poison and he hurts everyone around him when his friends are self destructive, they are just very high functioning.

Without the interference of Bojack, Diane is still struggling with her relationship with Mr. Peanutbutter and her dream career, Princess Caroline chose to go back into the exact same business that almost ruined her life despite her finally finding a man and who knows if she'll have the self control (that she never really displayed) to balance life/work this time around. Todd doesn't really have any self destructive behaviours despite being a lazy idiot which he always was so he's exempt.

Is Todd lazy? He built a bloody theme park, that's more than I've done with my life. And ran a successful company!

(He's probably an idiot though.)

While this is definitely a factor to it, it's kind of unfair to say that Bojack doesn't exasperate those qualities significantly.

Like, Princess Caroline might be an obsessive manager/problemsolver, but those tendencies wouldn't be as bad if Bojack didn't fuck shit up to such epic proportions that it drives her crazy. There isn't anything inherently wrong with being a workaholic unless it disrupts your happiness and that's not necessarily the case yet. It's also the possibility that Bojack's fuck ups helped instill that workaholic nature in the first place, so even if you remove him from the equation, he influence isn't immediately neutralized.

So while Bojacks departure may not an instant cure-all, the ending to the series represents not just the hope that things will get better but the challenges people will face. Nobody's life would have been perfect if not for Bojack, but that doesn't mean he didn't negatively impact them in many ways.

Also, I'm not sure what the exact rules are, but I'm spoilering just in case.

I just finished season 3 and the last episode gave me the goosebumps. Given the fact that it is an animated show filled with crazy satire, it is amazing how much more real this show gets than many other shows out there.

The part with the pasta incident and the spaghetti strainers in episode 12 was pure comedic genius. The buildup to that part in the rest of the season was totally worth it.

Finally started watching season 1, first episode was ok but didnt do much for me, but I really enjoyed episode 2 with the navy seal incident. I hear it only gets better later on so im excited.

I did not even enjoy the show until halfway through the first season, so you are in for a treat if you are already enjoying it.

I'm surprised so many people here thought Season 3 was unfocused. I thought they definitely knew exactly what they were going for.

One thing I'm sick of is
Todd, and how they keep repeating the Bojack screwing him over storyline, and Todd realizing they're not really friends angle. It's old, tired, and stupid at this point. At this point it's Todd's fault for still hanging around Bojack. And I think the whole him giving all his money away as a tip thing was stupid as well.

Otherwise I really like how they've set up for season 4.

Tried to rewatch season 1 and noticed that the sarah lynn music video Prickly Muffin which is pretty much her first appearance is set in a planetarium.

Man, this show always puts me in a depressed mood. I never thought I'd identify so much with a anthropomorphic horse who was a star of a shitty sitcom, but here I am. While it's not nearly as serious and weighty, I've been feeling the existential crisis that this show explores.

Amazing show, I might watch S 1-3 again. Easily one of my top 3 shows on Netflix right now.

The only thing I hate is that this show has no blu ray releases and probably never will. You can buy the "Emmy Consideration" dvd sets on ebay but that's not enough!

It is a downer but if you ever find yourself uncomfortably identifying with Bojack then enjoy the perspective you have that you can in fact make things better for yourself and your friends, unlike Bojack and his black-hearted inability to connect with anything that brings him meaningful joy.

The show is a tonic for those who find themselves reliving past regrets. Even if he doesn't, we can all get better.

Just finished the season

Was not expecting Bojack to have a (potential) teenage daughter. I mean, I was, but I wasn't expecting the reveal to happen then.

I also like what they did/are doing with Todd.

Looking forward to Mr. PB running for governor next season!!

I hope they do a Blu-ray collection once the series is over. I need high bitrate BoJack.

So I just binge-watched the season here at work (on a very quiet night shift).

Underwater episode was amazing.

The casual bombshell of BoJack's teenage daughter came out of nowhere and now I'm going to agonise over it for another year.

"I want to be an architect..." God damn. God. DAMN.

Now in an emotionally bruised state of mind but not sure what's worse; the post-Bojack blues or the fact that I've got to wait another year for more. This is hands-down one of the best TV shows around at the moment, but hardly anyone I know watches it.

Why has there been no bluray releases? House of Cards and Orange is the New Black were given home releases. Does it have to do with licensing rights?

Probably just down to its relative popularity. With the ever increasing critical praise hopefully it will get some award recognition like Gentleman Jack said and it will get more mainstream mind share.

But the show has several seasons under its belt. That alone usually warrants bluray releases. They clearly have viewers, otherwise they don't get renewed. And besides, bluray/dvd releases are typically used as advertisement vehicles for the upcoming seasons. Narcos is coming out in a few weeks. It's irritating that this, Daredevil, and Jessica Jones haven't gotten blurays yet. I hope at some point they do get releases on the home market.

Since the concept of Netflix is that you can watch any show at any time, I doubt they have much interest in selling Blurays/dvds. Its kinda shooting in their own foot. The few shows that have been released physically are probably there to convince people that they should get a subsciption to see the rest.

But they already do that with cable and network shows, releasing DVD boxsets until the end of their run. Box sets from previous seasons of Breaking Bad and Dexter were released in time for the new seasons that were being released. And box seasons for House of Cards and Orange is the New Black have all been released using the same business model that their broadcast counterparts have been using for years. The only time that cycle is ever broken is when shows wrap up. Dexter, Mad Men, and Breaking Bad have all released their final seasons on home video weeks after their finales aired.

I'm hoping at some point Netflix will release shows like Daredevil, Bojack, Jessica Jones and others once their popularity ramps up abit. The fact that they have multiple seasons must account for some success -- especially the Marvel shows, which is trying to duplicate the success that the Marvel films are enjoying onto the television market.

My point is that unlike cable networks, which cant just keep reairing shows hoping you'll catch up, Netflix knows that at any given point you can rewatch entire shows. So instead of selling all their shows on Bluray as well, they just promote a few that way in order to get a subscription. After that, there is no point in buying a bluray (from Netflix's perspective at least) since they want you to keep that subscription running. Instead, they will just promote old seasons on your dashboard when a new season closes in. I get that they could release their shows physically, and that cable networks that support online viewing do that as well. But ultimately, Netflix needs you to sign up and associate the mentality of "I want to rewatch this show" with their platform, not with your Bluray collection.

This is the season that finally got me to cry. Not just tearing up, full on tears rolling down the cheeks at increasing speed. And it wasn't even a scene meant to be sad, but it caught me entirely off guard, it freaking destroyed me. It was the revelation of
Todd's asexuality. How open he was about it. How understanding Emily is in response. How they treat it like the most casual thing in the world and they just move on, taking it for granted. As someone who, during puberty, unsuccessfully tried to get off to both straight and gay porn trying to find what preference I had, who could never get aroused even when looking at supposedly the sexiest people in the planet, who at times wondered if I was 'broken' and if I'd ever find someone I could be with that could understand this aspect of me...It spoke to me in a way no show I've seen has directly acknowledged before.

It was a beautiful reveal. Handled, as is often the case in Bojack with potentially controversial themes, marvelously. Aaaaah, man. What a season. What a series. Bless all involved.

Why is House of Cards and Orange is the New Black up to date on their box sets and not Bojack and Daredevil? It's just seems so arbitrary. I guess one could make the argument that House and Orange are Netflix's prestige shows, but Bojack is unusual, clever, and subversive enough to occupy a niche slot in their marketing. If they ever aspire to create an animation bloc, they could center it around Bojack.

What are the chances we'll see box seasons show up later on if Bojack runs for 7+ years? And what are the chances that Cards and Orange might stop producing blurays down the line?

And who the hell makes these decisions? The showrunners, Netflix, or in the case of Daredevil, Disney/ABC/Marvel?

That's awesome dude. It's this kind of stuff that gets me really pissed when people complain about inclusivity.

I'd say that makes this show pretty similar to House MD.

Bojack won't be happy no matter what he accomplishes. He sabotages himself. He keeps abusing everyone around him. It's all the same stuff from season 1 recycled over and over again, but it doesn't have any impact anymore. The whole show just sounds like some writer making bad self-analysis at this point. It's just masturbation. The characters just tell you their problems. Show, don't tell? It doesn't work as a drama or a comedy anymore. It's just...completely uninteresting. I should have bailed after the first season.

Pretty much my thoughts, though season 2 did end up having enough of a pay-off that it came round for me. There's so much negative momentum going that if season 3 had a happier ending it would have paid off really well. It's not that I don't like dark shows, it's that Bojacks getting redundant. Watching someone who can't learn is only fun if you can't either ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Patton Oswalt's/The Penguin's reading of it was Emmy-Worthy.

There definitely was a huge lack of him this season, no doubt because of his home life tragedy interrupting things, I'm sure. I really did miss his many random roles, though. Hope he's able to participate again in a bigger capacity for Season 4.

I binge-watched this entire show over the past two weeks for the first time. Jesus, what a ride. I fucking love this show, even if it gets dark as shit. Weirdly enough, I don't feel myself getting that depressed from it, just more interested and excited about it, which could just be a product of me binging it.

Recently binge watched the whole series over the last week or so. Very enjoyable, though depressing as all hell. Recently went through a pretty rough breakup and a number of the character dynamics really hit the nail on the head with what went wrong.

I just want to take the time to thank you people of Gaf. About two weeks ago I accidentally stumbled into this thread thinking to myself, 'hmm, what is this Bojack programme?', then I saw you all giving high praise for the new season so I thought I'd give ep 1 a try, and now here I am, it's probably one of, if not my favourite show I've watched on Netflix and just on tv in general.

It's wonderful, and I'm only halfway through season 2!

Does anyone think a Bojack Horseman action figure line could be profitable? They have very distinctive, colorful looking characters. And which toy company would be ideally suited to manufacturing them? Mattel, Hasbro, McFarlane? A Mr. Peanutbutter 20th anniversary edition. Princess Caroline in crossfit exercise gear.

You know Gamestop would be the ideal place to carry these items.

Just got up to ep 7, and
Mr. Peanutbutter's "It's aborted" balloon was a brilliant little gag.

Spoiling that just in case, even though it's just a visual gag.

I'm sure there would be demand for some collectibles, but neither Mattel nor Hasbro would waste money on a license for a property aimed at adults. It would be a company that specializes in collectibles, if anything.

Wait. Mattel has their He-Man action figure line that is tailor suited for collectors rather than retail. And I'm sure a sizable chunk of Star Wars fans are adult toy collectors.

Bojack has a very quirky visual charm to it that it could make for an interesting toyline in my opinion. They had a Simpsons toyline a few years back. A large enough mythos in Simpsons to justify a wide assortment of action figures, but I digress.

What about a Bojack videogame? My dream scenario would be for a Bojack game developed by Konami as a 4 player beat em up.

This season is still sinking in, I liked where it went but something about it just didn't hit as hard as the last two. But I still really liked it even if it's my least favorite season so far.

it definitely brought the laughs and some complex feels but i feel like the detour with Sarah Lynn was kinda rushed and just served to throw bojack back to where he began. Last season's ending really made me think we would get some actual progress for him at least.

Todd's asexuality was a really cool scene
