One thing I didn't like was when Peter was getting ready to attack Ego, saying something along the lines of "You killed/This is for my mother! And my Walkman!"

I'm like, really Peter...

Yeah, I kind of agree. I know the Walkman was a sentimental piece from his childhood with his mom, but it sounded super out of place making a joke right there.

Saw it yesterday, loved it. Really glad Nebula took the face turn.
Bracing for the inevitable death against Thanos.
Only complaint is Drax barely fought at all, seemed to be dedicated mainly to comic relief. But hey he was still great, so oh well whatever. Gamora also def took up the slack on that.

You got to remember though that the Walkman was a gift from his mother, and so was the vol 2 tape.

Edit: I'm fucking stupid and misread your post hahaha. Terrible night at work :(. I do agree it was a little out of place.

Is Adam warlock made from an infinity stone?

Dunno anything about him but he won't be in the movie since he is being made as the next evolutionary step for those golden people and by the time we see him, Infinity Wars 2 will have already happened.

Really enjoyed it. Not sure how I would rate it compared to the first. I do have 2 gripes.

1. The Peter/Yondu relationship could have used a bit more development.
2. Half of the crew didn't have shit to do during the Ego fight.

Best line in the movie:
"I'm Mary Poppins Y'all!"

RIP Yondu

I wish crew didn't "fight" egos tentacles but instead fought against human duplicates of ego. That would have giving us more action from all the members of the gotg

Caught this tonight at the Paccar Imax in Seattle. Holy shit it was soo good! I didn't think I would like it more that the first, but I did. I loved all of the various touching moments between the characters throughout and it was gorgeous from an aesthetic standpoint.

Dat opening...

Saw some reviews talking about the lines making fun of Mantis were misogynistic. I disagree. If there was discussion in here about it, point me to it please.

I mean they were awful things to say but it's well established at this point that Drax is a massive dumbass

Agreed. I thought those lines were funny, though.

I don't think it's supposed to be funny because the viewer thinks, "Oh wow, it's so funny to tell a woman she's disgusting!" I think it's supposed to be funny because it's over the top, and his culture is so unrelatably different. She's obviously cute, and Drax has a very strange sense of values for his romantic partners from what he describes.

In the first movie, when he calls Gamora a whore, I found that to be stupid, mysoginistic, and not funny. Telling Mantis, who I adored, that she was disgusting, was funny due to how off it is. Sounds like he likes larger women, so that's one of the major turnoffs for him. Hey, at least he's not reinforcing harmful female body image stereotypes.

Yeah the green whore thing was really stupid. It was better in this one because he was obviously wrong.

I did die at Drax just leading poor Mantis into a trap by saying it was ok to pet Rocket

Like you see the wheels turning in that doofus's head when she asks

It's the same concept. His culture is different.

I hate Adam Warlock.

he ruined Infity Gauntlet by talking too much thorugh out that series
Ruined? I didn't feel that way at all. Did you hate Infinity Gauntlet?
Anyway, considering how different all these characters are, you might be happily surprised.

Infitiy Gauntlet was overhyped and came out average

1) the lack of creativity on how some heroes were killed off

2) the odd choice of the surviving heroes in the last issues

3) Adam Warlcok bla bla bla, bla bla bla wouldn't shut up

To be fair, the walkman meant a lot to him because of its connection to his mother.

Just to sate my own curiosity, did you read IG when it came out?

That mutiny scene was fuckin rough. Kinda disturbing actually. It made me long for Taser Face and his shit heel buds to die lol

Also, what is the name of the character who helps free Yondu and Co after realizing that a mutiny wasn't what he wanted to happen? I love his character. When he gets overwhelmed during the Ravager funeral scene, yelled and pounded his chest I cried. He loved his captain. Yondu 😢

Thanks!

As much as I love the movie, one thing I have to note is that while I found the humor, drama, and action to be great, the intervals between humor/drama/action would sometimes be way too short. It's hard to describe, but it's as if there wasn't enough time between tonal shifts for my emotions to ride the waves. Really my only criticism lol

Ehhh. I wouldn't go that far. The joke is being written by someone for Western consumption.

Saying someone is disgusting is not inherently misogynistic. Saying someone's a whore...

I can say a guy is a whore, but I digress. The jokes you didn't mind from Vol 2 were also written by someone for Western consumption, but others saw it differently. I understand why you think it's misogynistic, and I also understand why others think the ones from Vol 2 are misogynistic as well, I just don't agree with it.

Saw it today, came in with low expectations and I liked it.

What a way to end it though, to have alot of the theatre bawling their eyes out, leave it to Cat Stevens to put a damn lump in your throat and make you whimper as a grown man lol.

Didn't care for this at all. All of the characters were just treated like jokes, and none of them are original or funny ones. The occasional times they tried to go for depth it was extremely shallow and forced. The action was not that interesting, and the story was so rushed that it felt inconsequential.

No.
I saw nothing misogynistic about the relationship between Manyis and Drax, but the green whore line in vol 1 was definitely off.

As for your first sentence...puh-lease.

Well some people obviously saw Mantis-Drax relationship as misogynistic, as brought up by Aizo.

Regarding your second sentence, agree to disagree....puh-lease.

How about no. All things are not equal.
I hate it when sexism is being discussed and someone does the, "but men too" nonsense. It's stupid and ignorant.

I just saw it an enjoyed it, although I think the first one was better. I thought the pacing was off though, the first half of the movie was too unfocused with all the crap happening and everyone scattered. And that was with me knowing who Ego is.

I think part of the reason the first movie worked well was that the plot is pretty simple: Starlord has the magic ball and everyone wants it or him since he has it. All the offbeat humor and random comments worked because the overall direction was focused. In this one you get five minute gags about Drax/Groot/Rocket being idiots which makes the plot lose focus.

Still, it was fun and I'd watch it again.

The jokes are funny when the deliverer is the butt of the joke and not the recipient, as is the case here. Everytime Drax said anything inappropriate, the laughs were at his expense, not Mantis'.

Just got back from my 2nd viewing and even though I really liked it the first time I liked it even more the 2nd time. Watching for specific things from characters b/c I knew what was coming and I definitely appreciated the music a lot mroe the 2nd time.

I thought Drax called Gamora a whore because that is what people on prison called her, he being the literal dumbass he is of course woudl call her that.

I agree, I liked it even more the second time. I thought the second act didn't drag on nearly as much as the first time viewing

Damn I really really wish Yondu didn't die. I wanted him to stick around and kick ass in Infinity War. I liked the idea of the GotG family just getting bigger each movie

Somebody gonna die playing that game.

And that somebody is me

That, uhh…wasn't a joke. It was actually for his Walkman.

A lot of people really seem to miss that Peter's a dork. Hell, a lot of humor in Guardians is less attempts at humor on the character's parts than people seem to realize.
