Oh yea, good points.

carrot just reminds me of the trope where female anthro characters will look more like humans than the men.
or maybe Oda just cant help himself.

Carrot looks innocent as fuck in the manga, and some of the Male Minks look pretty humanoid themselves.

I forget my avatar is OP related (I have them turned off) so I could see how I might come off as a OP fanboy.

I've read/watched both Beserk and and HxH. They are both really good, and the HxH Anime is probably better than the OP Anime (but still not better than the manga) however since they both will probably never get finished, I'm going to disqualify them.

I've also read a shit ton of American fiction (american comics included) as well as watched/read tons of manga in general. I chose my words carefully when I said OP was the best piece of fiction I've read (so far).

Keep 'em coming.

When Ace was introduced, it seems obvious to me that Haki wasn't implemented yet, and Oda power creeped with that shit.

Look at Zoro. Literally fucking invincible after the time skip.

I'd say well deserved if it hadn't dipped so much in quality since the time skip. It doesn't read like the old One Piece I loved reading back in the day.

Has Nami developed at all in a while? She is definitely one of the weaker characters, together with Brook and Chopper.

Even thought they're not canon, the last movie had given quite a bit of air-time to her and a backstory never seen before. Most of the others got fuck all.

I mean outside of the huge breasts tiny waist thing he loves to draw :)
I don't mind, but damn, hes still doing it all these years later which is amusing.

The power creeping still bothers me, partly why I took a hiatus from OP for a while. I just hope he maintains the series in all other areas through to the finish.

Haven't started that yet (mentioned earlier), so that's at least something to look forward to once the arc is complete.

Even thought they're not canon, the last movie had given quite a bit of air-time to her and a backstory never seen before. Most of the others got fuck all.
The problem is that the style of the anime became worse and worse at some point (together with the general quality), so watching a newer movie of One Piece...urgh.

Spoiler for anyone not caught up on the recent arc. The foreshadowing is pretty crazy. Oda just sprinkles it everywhere. I wonder what else we might've missed.

This reminds me, before (current arc)
Sanji's bros were revealed, there was a theory about Bellamy being Sanji's brother. I actually believed it because it absolutely fit with Oda's pattern: Sanji and Bellamy had never met, despite being in the same location two times, and there's a chapter in Jaya where Sanji tells the story of Noland the Liar, and the chapter goes into Bellamy telling the same story at the same time. Felt like the kind of hinting Oda would do.

Of course, the same theorist talked about Killer being another Sanji-Bro, and the evidence for that was basically "Killer is blond and we haven't seen his face." So yeah.

I'd say well deserved if it hadn't dipped so much in quality since the time skip. It doesn't read like the old One Piece I loved reading back in the day.

Power creep is too real. Most Logias introduced after the time skip are chumps.

Well, they do mention most logia users get too confident in their powers from their time in Paradise.

I just hope that the mangaka will stay healthy to finish the series. In either case, he deserves a lifetime achievement award for his contributions to japanese culture.

Haki doesn't bother me much because something needed to be introduced from a story-telling perspective to counter logias. It just feels weird that we didn't see it specifically mentioned until Saobody (minus the early early Shanks hint).

Of course, there was also the idea of logias each having a weakness (Croc to water, Enel to rubber). I guess he could have gone with that.

Well, opinions and all that. :p

Zoro gonna solo everything by the time we catch up to him.

It's still an issue, I just never associated it with Carrot, at least not the huge breasts thing. The waist, yea I see it.

Would've inevitably reached a point where we'd have to question why people that are stronger than Luffy never thought to exploit said weaknesses lol

Well, there are haki-like things early before I assume the actual rules for it were established. Shanks' aura is about the only thing that reaches to the beginning and is more just having a strong, unshakable will. Outside of that, you get weak glimpses of that with CP0 (which also seems odd that just a group such as them wouldn't have developed past their level of ability) and then nothing concrete till Sabaody.

Power creep is fairly real, but it's made both worse and covered up by the 2 year timeskip. I can live with hit, especially based on how a few of the SHs trained during that period.

Edit: It's not 100% fair to call it power creep because of the two year time skip.

HStallion

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
It should be Hunter X Hunter but seeing as Togashi is on Hiatus more often than not its not surprising. Still damn amazing, One Piece is a beast and will probably surge to number 1 unless it ends soon which isn't happening.

Power creep where?

1/3 of the Logia users in the series are top-tiers.

Crocodile and Eneru were beaten by a pre-Gears Luffy.

Logias were never portrayed as 100% invincible monsters.

The only thing you could say about Logias nowadays is that they tend to be the most destructive. Now it's all (mostly) fair game, although when all is said and done, you probably would still want to have a Logia fruit.

edit: seriously though, I'm out of stuff to read atm so suggest your best piece of fiction that might be on par/surpass One Piece.

It's hard to top One Piece. But if you include American Comics there's some really brilliant (albeit shorter) stories. Like Tom King's Vision. 12 issues or so. I thought it was brilliant. Another comic I wanna recommend is Deadly Class. It's about a school full of assassins. Great comic.

For anime, it's not really anywhere close to One Piece, but its something I've always loved, and that's Samurai Champloo. Made by the same guy who made Cowboy Bebop. (It's an anime, and you asked for fiction so it doesn't count)

I also want to give a special shoutout to:

1.) Bakuman - a manga about making manga, dreams, life, etc.

2.) Haikyuu - a sports manga about Volleyball. I literally went in expecting nothing. But the characters grew on me, I kept wanting them to succeed and go further. Brilliantly writing.

3.) Kids on a Slope - I watched the anime a few summers ago. I loved it. Here's a trailer

None of these are like One Piece at all, and none of these top it really. But I thought they were all amazing. And maybe you'll enjoy them as much as I did.

Kenshin? Hellsing? I adore both series but both are a little long in the tooth so you might have read them.

So it's probably a lot less.

There's no way to tell. Especially considering this is sourced from a WhatCulture article where the guy doesn't explain where he got these numbers from or what his methodology is (What counts as a Superman comic?) and the guy is probably pulling it out of his ass.

what are you doing OP!?

in the OP, you directly compare superman/batman comic sales numbers with one piece manga sales numbers, without ever mentioning/explaining to us the difference in how they are sold? prices, etc... really?

manga, at least in europe, is really expensive. I'm guessing it's similar in america? To give some examples, each copy for naruto/bleach, were i live, costs 7,50€. One piece is 7€ nowadays (so 7,50€/7€ each!! me and by brother must have a bit less than 150 of those, which i guess is not that much if you like to read manga, but oh well).

From what i heard in the past, the quality of the paper/ink whatever is worse in japan, so they are a lot cheaper there? can someone comment on this?

weren't american comics (batman/superman), for most of their history, extremely cheap? Like, i get that there's bigger, higher quality stuff, but wouldn't most of the numbers come from those thin, cheap comics? again, some of you who have grow with those can comment on it...

i'm guessing that this has already been disscused? I just find the OP to be really thin.

I like One Piece and follow the manga, but i'd be hard pressed to call it the greatest with masterpieces like Berserk and Blade of the Immortal out there. It's the best at what it does though.

This is one of those comics/shows where I want to get into it but since I have to start from zero which is generally where these Shonen action shows tend to be weaker in spectacular battles, I kind of give up.

Well that and how ridiculously long it is.

Luffy wasn't all DBZ in the beginning, but he still did some pretty cool stuff lol

Read/watched them both. Hellsing had a stellar OST.

Most logia are crap in the 2nd half, since most people in the new world are so good at haki.

I mean it makes sense, most of the pirates will return frol the new world defeated because those are the extrely big leagues, im pretty sure all the logias on the red line and grand line think having a logia is enough.

then they face reality

NESpowerhouse

Perhaps he's wondering why someone would shoot a man before throwing him out of a plane.
Yup, well deserved. Been collecting for close to 14 years now. Have 72 volumes sitting on my shelf.

The One Piece manga just might be my favorite thing of all-time. I'm gonna cry like a little bitch once it ends.

Top tier series that absolutely deserves it. I'd put it next to Berserk, Tezuka's Phoenix, Akira, and the Getter Robo saga as one of my favorite manga of all time and one of the best, period. Oda's sense of worldbuilding, character design, action, charm, and little character moments is just through the roof. The anime is kind of awful, though - the pacing is terrible and so many episodes end with nothing happening. There are too many scenes where something will happen, and then all the characters react...

Zoro: *grins*
Brook: Ho ho ho!
Robin: Hmmhm!
Sanji: Heh!
Chopper: Aaaah!

etc.

I swear, moments like this must take up 10% of the anime's entire run time.

As far as a tier list for the straw hats...I like all of them too much to really rank them, tbh. They're all old buds, so I just can't rank 'em. I even like Usopp. If I really had to choose, my favorite characters are probably Sanji and Chopper.

One Piece was my addiction since 2005... Sadly the series since Impel Down hasn't been the same to me. I will always love classic OP tho.
