Only thirty seconds long, but HOLY SHIT. Not since the reveal of the Oculus has my jaw dropped this far. Absolutely stunning and breathtaking. If this is the future of gaming, sign me up.

To review, this is setup via an HTC Vive paired with a "Mario Kart Arcade racing rig" that you sit in. Coming to the Bamco VR ZONE when it opens in Shinjuku this Friday.

EDIT: Press preview video showing the setup. Apparently there is a physical steering wheel, but you raise up and wave a Vive controller to throw items.

In the video, you can see some noticeable changes to the Mario Kart formula. Including items hanging from balloons, rather than being in blocks, and new items like the hammer. It's also worth noting that VR Thwomp looks terrifying.

Unfortunately for those of us outside of Japan, it looks like this won't be available as a home product anytime soon.

Not too fond of the first-person view and how low it sits on the track, but Mario Kart is definitely one of the few Nintendo properties that stand to get anything obvious out of VR. The Eekhammer is a nice touch.

Other than actually aiming to use items that seems pretty boring. Which I guess makes sense, going fast and having complex courses would most likely make people vomit.
