I should be more excited about this, but the game as is looks monotonous. I also think it's pretty visually boring and not nearly as fast-paced as the previous titles.

Doesn't quite seem to have that particular Strider look locked down. It should look like Moebius did a Blade Runner comic.

Hmm, I think it looks pretty good. Yes, it has a different look than the old Strider games, but I kinda like it.

One to watch.

It looks OK and there is room to make it better but I don't think there is demand for this game, this looks like another Bionic Commando case, I hope I'm wrong and the game is awesome and sells well.

I really love the 2 games, the 2nd being my 10th favorite game ever. No, developers. Not like this.

I liked the extent to which the series plays into speed runs. Its action was very delicate. This doesn't even try to do that, but I also don't appreciate what they've used to replace it. I love the series enough to give it a hard look, though.

Internet was off for a day because of moving and I come back to this?

Day fucking 1.

edit:
wait double helix. Angry Joe said they made Green Lantern and Battle ships among other crappy games. Hmmm... still hoping this turns out good.

Delicate? Are you kidding me?

This new game follows the 'hold down the attack button while running through enemies' action pretty damn well. Which is pretty much 90% of Strider 2. The previous games weren't god damn Street Fighter in its level of gameplay depth. At least this game showed off the boss fight which emphasized the need to change up strategies.

Please tell me how this is delicate.

On second thought, some of the comments here are on the money. The game doesn't seem to evoke that sense of thrill that Strider 2 had. The colours are also too washed out. I ran Strider 2 through the epsxe emulator and I'd have to say this new Strider doesn't seem to have that same visual flair and use of colours the old one had. Hiryu still has very stylish animations, but there is something missing. Sorry for the bad filters on the sprites, but you get the idea.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Strider 2 is one of my personal favorites and unfortunately the artstyle Double Helix is using seems kind of bland.

Actually wondering why it wasn't just developed internally...

:|

I want to be proven wrong.

Capcom seems to like outsourcing everything externally if possible, while all 500-600 people internally can work on a single big Japanese game which will underperform. It's the Capcom way.

I love Strider, but this looks like generic HD "remake" shit. This type of art style is why 2.5D generally sucks. They just crap out some models and call it a day.

Really hope they polish it quite a bit before release, cause ugh. The sound mix is butts, too. You can't hear anything besides him grunting in ecstasy and slash noises unless he's standing completely still.

EDIT: Oh god, Double Helix? nopenopenopenopenope

After watching the gameplay demo, I'm sold. I'm sure the strider won't be such the sponge when the difficulty's turned up a bit. He looks crazy responsive.

Not sure what kind of vanilla ass ports you've been playing, but Strider was a sight to behold. A goddamned sprite filled wonderland of intricate detail.

Strider 2 was no slouch either. Sure, LOL PSX 3D environments, but what was there looked pretty damned good. And it brought the Playstation to its knees over and over again. Shit moving and scaling all over the place. It was one of the best looking 2.5D action platformers for its time.

Which has nothing to do with how it played.

So like I said. Strider was always basic as hell. Combo master strider was an MVC invention.

I don't understand the complaints. The game looks as good if not better than Strider 2. They've expanded the gameplay and made it metroidvania. I don't know what you people want!

Urban Chaos: Riot Response maybe wasn't spectacular, but it wasn't bad.

Double Helix has a wide portfolio of bad.

I meant it more in a big break-out kinda way. After seeing their passion for KI and hearing how well it plays, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. That and Shadow Dancer folks working on this.

When I saw the trailer this morning I was sure this was made by Chair Entertainment.

Looks fantastic - and just like Shadow Complex.

Having popped in Strider 2 for a bit earlier tonight and looking at the gameplay video again, yeah, it's really apparent that the game is being designed less like the arcade style Strider 1 & 2, and more like the non linear Strider NES.

Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, since Strider NES is pretty fun, but I can definitely see how anyone (myself included) wanting an arcade style follow up to Strider 2 focusing on getting through levels with as high as score as possible, as efficiently as possible (like Strider 2) would be disappointed with a follow up instead focusing on exploration and finding power ups Metroidvania style.(Like Strider NES)

KI is looking great and they are working with fan feedback, so I cannot see why they would not do the same for Strider HD unless the Osaka team don't really do that kind of thing.

Sure DH have some poor games but they are allowed to make a comeback and improve. I am willing to give them a chance.
