And I thought they did a good setup for next season. No major, world ending threat. It felt more low key with the introduction of mom again, and that there are other chapters of the Men of Letters. And the implication that there is some main council overseeing the entire thing and they aren't happy with the Winchesters.
Nah talking about Don't Call Me Shurley. Loved that episode to bits.

So it's probably a long shot, but what if Amara's "giving Dean what he wanted" was actually peace? Maybe, once God pulled the souls out of Dean, he ended up dying anyway, albeit without the massive explosion. Dean didn't know it, of course, questioning why/how he suddenly ended up in a wooded area, with his dead mother calling for "help" nearby. As for Sam, maybe the Men...er...Woman of Letters really did end up shooting him, and the entirety of next season will be him and Dean thinking everything is okay as usual, tying up any loose ends they have/making peace with it all before the Reaper ends up claiming their souls at the end of the season, forcing the brothers to move on (and effectively ending the show). The Reaper's comment about Dean seeing her real soon, could possibly have been a hint?
I don't know, the finale seemed strange to me, something definitely different than what I'm used to. I didn't dislike it at all (I enjoyed it), just not what I expected.

Season 8 is still one of the best finales of the series. Probably the most striking imagery of any of the finales.

Granted, we don't exactly know what kind of crazy bullshit they have been dealing with. I mean, it isn't going to be anything like God or anything, but they may have been dealing with some next level shit.
But not likely.
So probably things like werewolves in London?
Funny how they only mobilize after the threat is neutralized. It makes me think the bunker has been bugged the entire time.

Loved the season finale and holy crap are they finally going their... it looks like we might actually be getting a Men of Letters season arc. My hype is through the roof.

since the bros have found out about being men of letters, theyve dealt with an enemy to all men of letters, a rogue men of letters, an angel uprising, cain, and the darkness. there better have been some major shit going on outside of the darkness

I'm interested in the Men of Letters, but I didn't like that it seemed like they were setting them up as antagonists, pretty much any human enemy is going to seem like nothing after all the shit they've felt with. Also, I feel like they probably could have teleported Dean back to the others before they left, instead of letting him get his own ride back.

Season 12: Men & Women of Letters hunt The Winchesters of Letters. Before they're about to kill em, Abadon comes back from the dead!
Without the Mark of Cain, how will the the Winchesters defeat her again?! Cue in Men & Women of Letters uniting with the Winchesters since they killed her before.
Unno how, probably some time travel bullshit like the first time.
Decent finale. Way more subdued finale than it usually is. And nice for the men of letters to get off their asses finally, after all this time and much fuckery. I'm definitely interested in seeing this other secret branch and what their deal is.
Yay for momma Winchester but sucks that John is still missing. Couldn't God and Amara have also raised Bobby, Rufus, and the gang while they were at it? And where did Amara send Lucifer? They talked about him as if he weren't dead, so he has to be somewhere in the wind.
But yeah, great season overall. Easily a top 5 and challenging for a top 3 spot. That is pretty impressive for such a long running show. New showrunner next season so we'll see how that goes I guess.

As much as I love Bobby and Rufus, I don't think they should bring em back. Flashbacks of em, them in Heaven, etc are all fine. But let them have their peace already
.Maybe the same place Metatron is, what if The Darkness could send people to The Void? Maybe Season 12 has Sam dying and getting thrown into The Void, and Dean tries to find out how to summon The Darkness to get Sammy back?
We definitely need John back, we got young John Winchester, now we need older John Winchester so we can see the proud look in his eyes, followed by the look of absolute horror at what his kids have done. Apocalypse, Leviathans, Angels kicked outta Heaven, letting his dad die to Abadon, etc.

This was a great season. Even the worst parts were still decent popcorn fodder. And it was nice to have a villain that redeemed herself and didn't have to die, for a change .
Isn't Jeffrey Dean Morgan too busy now with Walking Dead? I don't expect John Winchester to come back to life (unless they use the younger version of him). I'd love for him to be back on the show, though, even just as a ghost.

I think Dean and Sam have built up such a reputation in the world of monsters over the years that, the only real way they'd ever find peace... is through death, sadly.

As for the other MoL not helping: How do you know they weren't containing all the crap that indirectly arose as a result of the Winchesters actions?
Also, unlike the Winchesters they weren't protected or assisted by Gods (and THE God in many occasions), angels, and the occasional demon.
But really the writers likely didn't think them up until after the fact.

The last couple of mythology episodes felt kind of ... rushed, maybe? The finale included.
I would liked those episodes to have been stretched out, and maybe introduce the MoL story arc before the last episode. It was kind of jarring ... or: just have the lady there to "arrest" Sam at the end with no set up at all.

The Angels were self contained. Mostly fighting amongst themselves. The stuff with Dean was only in the US. The darkness and maybe Abaddon were things that they could have been dealing with. And if they were trying to fight Abaddon they were totally fucking up
Didn't she say the Men of Letters London Chapter keeps to their studies? They probably never intervened because they simply aren't meant to do so. Maybe a bit like the Foundation in the Isaac Amisov series. The first foundation = the AMerican Men of Letters are there to be out in the open and act while the second Foundation = the London Chapter manipulates to help the first.
All Men of Letters are suppose to keep to their studies. It's why they look down on hunters who actually do shit.

That was a great finale, a lot slower paced and more intimate than I thought it would. It was nice that Amara is still around. The change of heart was a great way to bring the arc to an end, Amara never really came across as completely evil, just more angry and lashing out than anything else. Actress who played her did an amazing job conveying the conflict she felt.
Also nice to see the MoL finally show up. Can't wait to see what's in store with them next season. Seems they might not be the 'good guys' we were led to believe?
