Knights of Sidonia 1-12 END
Now I understand why I've been thirsty for mechs lately. I wasn't looking for something like Captain Earth or Star Driver (albeit still very good in its own right). I was looking for something like this. I suppose all I needed was some drama with my mechs, something neither series really provided.

I heard the series was CG, but I didn't think it'd be completely CG. It honestly felt weird since the last CG anime I saw was the Appleseed movie and that was when I was a kid. It took a couple episodes to really get over it.

The story itself was alright. It's just really sad that
when they build up his harem a little and kill one of the girls and Tanikaze becomes obsessed with the Gauna version of her.
And what exactly happened at the end? Did that Gauna variant somehow get out of Sidonia? How?

I might pick up the manga since I have nothing else to do.

Black Bullet 13 END
Did it really have to go this route? Was this necessary? I didn't mind it ending on a note where a second season is completely possible, but the how is just...what?

Thanks everyone. I'll keep watching. I'm enjoying the characters enough so far, and hope it ends better than SAO. For me, SAO started strong, but pretty damn quickly started stumbling over it's own feet.

Glad you are enjoying it. It was my #2 show of last year. And it was the show that got me diving into novels to get more once it was over.

for what's it worth, many people in AnimeGAF actually really liked Log Horizon while they abhor SAO. But they differ greatly on focus.

SAO decided to focus on romance and drama and how much of a Gary Stu Kirito is, with an occasional reminder it's meant to be a game instead of a fantasy world. And I somewhat liked the romance aspect, so I'm not pretending I hated everything about it.

Log Horizon constantly reminds you it's an MMO world people are trapped in. It focuses on them adjusting to this world and all the clever ways they take advantage of the system, even how the game evolves around them as they change it. Shirou is also not your run of the mill protagonist as he's all brains and a support class.

I have mixed feelings on the latter. I actually quite enjoyed SAO until episode 15 came around and shit on everything. But Log Horizon took the same basic premise, while remaining thoroughly enjoyable throughout.

I'm quite looking forward to SAO II, but I have to admit that I'm basing this purely on the fact that Sinon looks awesome.

Starting on Thursday I won't be able to watch this much, if at all. By next week you'll probably have passed me and then some.

Ranma forced me to learn Japanese, my brother brought back all of the manga from Japan and I had no idea what to do with it. So I learnt how to read Japanese.

I should post a photo when I unpack it all.

Nanana's Buried Treasure 11

Not a horrible way to end things, but this show exhibits so much wasted potential it hurts.

Like if they had taken out the Adventure club/School setting, the gang protecting the loli, the generic villain, and all the other crap that goes nowhere and that needlessly took up time (I'm looking at you delivery episode) and nothing would have been lost.

And I know they have to follow parts of the LN, but if they just had the show concentrate on Juugo and Tensai uncovering and exploring for the treasure for a good 3/4 of the show, while the remaining quarter concentrated on Juugo's circumstances with his family (I actually like him being heir to an organization of a thieves) and more info about Nanana's past and the show could really have been something truly special.

Shame since the whole setting with the island filled with uncovered secrets and Nanana's ghost haunting the room is interesting and character-wise they were pretty solid, even if I don't care for a majority of them.

Juugo (who really doesn't look that remarkable) turned out to be a good main character, if having his views pretty questionable. Tensai=best, no need for discussion there. Didn't really like brown trap, but that's just because he was just there as your token trap and I grew tired of him not doing anything. Yuki I enjoyed and would have liked it if she had showed up more often.

Will admit that I still had fun watching the show and consider it one of the good surprises from this spring. Just wish they would have done more with it.

Rates: Above Average.

I have no hope for a S2, but would easily find myself excited if one were to be announced.

Soul Eater Not! 12
A predictable but nice ending. There was the predictable winning over Meme with friendship and a bit of sacrifice though
there was a bit of a :SDBurton moment prior
. Then they defeated the big bad with the power of "friendship".
I did like how Tsugumi transformed more in one when one or the other had her
and then a everything returns to normal happy ending. With Gagantous to finish it off

I can't wait for this weekend so I can figure out how much money I'm going to be spending over the next yearish.

Really I just want a Bebop BD date and price. My blank check is ready.

We get some backstory about Rin and his father. Looks like the typical story of offspring out to fulfill their parent's dream. Rin's junior that he bunks with is kind of annoying. The first thing he thinks of when Rin says he is going to see his father is that Rin is going to commit suicide? Okay...

So it is the big day, the race between Haru and Rin. Lots of dubstep to build up the tension right before the race. Gou is acting as her usual self around all the swimmers.
Haru loses to Rin and then Rin proceeds to gloat as soon as the race is over.
Didn't expect anything different from sharkboy.

EDIT: I just noticed how well my avatar works with that gif.

Is anyone else flooded with these Onigiri ads today or is it just me?

Can't read a manga or watch on Crunchyroll without these popping up.

Same here. Though I saw them on crunchyroll first. OH MY GOD THEY'RE FOLLOWING ME!!!!!!

Edit: Think I got rid of them for the time being. Just deleted the googleadservices cookies in my browser.

So...is there anything new coming out this wed-fri? All the Spring 2014 shows have ended already.

Yes.

Wed: Free, Bakumatsu Rock

Thurs: Glasslip, Shirogane no Ishi, Tokyo Ghoul, Rail Wars, Futsuu no Joshikousei

Fri: Nothing until 7/11

I don't know what people like CR have picked up for the day it comes out.

Captain Earth 04-06

Akari and Hana had me slightly interested in the series when I was looking over Spring's lineup, but that .webm of the Forte convinced me that this was what I'd been looking for and I never knew it. The conflicting plans that humanity has going on do provide an interesting backdrop to the series. Hana's "Princess" status needs to be elaborated on, but I'm also only a quarter into the show, there's more than enough time. Akari's also winning over quite a few points for me. She reminds me of Frau from Robotics;Notes, just without the entrenched otakuisms.

No robot action in these episodes, which makes me think back to a blog post I read the year before. And in this case, I really want more scenes at Tanegashima. That Japanese aesthetic of sitting on the porch, looking out the square window/door at the green backyard, talking about life while that doinky thing is in the background. It's an image that can fit into anything. It has the universal appeal of youth, nostalgia and intimacy. Though we also have fights in a space station, and those are kinda cool too. I like the combination of elements.

The fight with Eugene is one of my favorites. Loved how he went back to what he knew, and made it work. There's a bit in the LN at that part as well that made me like it even more.

This is one thing that I think SAO handled particularly well. The main battles were nicely animated but not only that, I appreciated how much effort was put into Kirito's vocals during those encounters which is something that I don't really notice in other anime battles. They really, at least to me, get across the idea that Kirito is really trying to defeat/kill his opponent, and that there's emotional/visceral intent behind each of his strikes.

Hayate no Gotoku! OVA Vol.A

Isn't it sad, Sac--actually that's not her name, but close enough!

Donkey ears and the joys of motor race cars for girls. Pretty much an amusing episode.

Dog Days' 02

And suddenly a squirrel invasion. Though, that CG transformation scene was pretty lewd. Hell, there's a lot more clothing explosion going on this season.

So Haruka is not sure what he feels after losing his race, questioning why he swims. I thought this episode would be more about Haruka moping but Gou signs them up for the medley relay which takes place the next day. It is now a mad dash to find where Haruka is and convince him to participate in the relay. Still unsure why he swims, Haruka agrees to participate and our favorite boys begin the race as the episode ends. Perhaps our heroes will make it to the finals after all.

Is it weird I feel guilty for loving Log Horizon's OP song Database? The adult in me finds the song corny, but the wise kid in me (who generally has better taste) loves it.

Did...did this just turn into JoJo?

This is not the Sunohara I've come to know.

So the heavy drama starts here.

...

You know, I can see the strings they're trying to pull, but I like Fuko, so I do feel for her.

I was rewatching Blast of Tempest recently and you know what that show is not that bad. It got wordy with the dialogue but the rest is okay with me.

Black Bullet end

Jesus fuck, Kisara! That came out of nowhere.

How the hell do you end on a note like that? I may have to read the LNs just to see where this ridiculous development goes.

I've seen this response a few times now. Do all the lolis explode and turn into aliens or something?

I actually thought the Sailor Moon transformation looked great, especially when she was translucent and the pink ribbons or whatever shot out around her. Then the translucence ended, and the CG suddenly looked pretty bad.
