Hey guys, first time posting here, (just got my account approved YAY lol) so I've been wondering, what's the "must see" anime of the season? I'm kind of out of date lol.

The two character format really isn't as constricting as you think, especially since we get glimpses at the other Precures from early on.
Based on what I know of Suite, I'm just assuming character relationships to be stuck in the same mode forever. Or at least until they start adding new members. lol

Is this why you don't wanna watch Utena?
Partly. There was also the Penguindrum anti-hype.

Its still really good.
It doesn't really feel like that old of a show. the art stands up to the test of time.
Yeah, but it's so much. I can barely (and can't, really) handle ~26 episode shows as it is. lol

Heartcatch gets away with it a little more by virtue of the fact that they have a lot of guest characters of various degrees of recurringness. To be honest, whilst I've been liking the monster design in it, I think it's something that DokiDoki can learn a lot from - the setup isn't that far from what goes on in Heartcatch, but if nothing else, it'd be neat to actually have the monsters somewhat tie into what's going on in the rest of the episode in DokiDoki more often rather than be mostly random outside of Letter Goat.

I kind of feel that Smile did the whole self-aware humour thing considerably better as well, even whilst being considerably more blatant about it. It's part of my larger problem with DokiDoki in that it hasn't really displayed much personality, at least not of it's own, up until this point, and it's only really with this most recent episode that it's feeling like it's finding it's feet. I'm still not really sure what's supposed to be setting this Precure apart from others, though - I suppose it's showing a much more rigid continuity compared to most of the others, so I wonder if it's going to keep that up across the course of the run.

Also, whilst DokiDoki's humour and direction seem to be gradually improving, it's hard not to notice that, regardless of story content, pretty much any episode of Smile felt more ambitious production-wise - the animation was considerably better, and everything was framed in a far more dynamic fashion. Can't help but wonder if DokiDoki is suffering due to Toei suddenly realising that they're supposed to be remaking Sailor Moon.
Oh yeah, the transformations are the worst thing ever. And it feels like they're running out of gimmicks because the whole cellphone thing is a bit ridiculous. lol

At the moment, everything about the show feels so cheap and thrown together. The villains and their designs, the whole idea of Selfishness, the main characters being idiotically ridiculous... all they're missing is a Precure otaku who has been following the Precures for her entire life being given the opportunity to become a Precure herself.

Everything about it just feels so... mashed together.

I totally forgot that was gonna happen. Shit, that's gonna collide with my marathon of the original show. I'm drowning in magical girls.
Just watch the last episode of each series!

Precure has always been cut-rate. Watch Doremi!
Between that idol episode and that dying girl episode, I feel like I have it covered. lol

Doremi is older than Futari wa though. firehawk likes em animays like he likes his women: the younger the better!
Airing live or not at all. That's the only way I can watch television now. lol

What, girls over 12 can't get you off you sick bastard?
You mean girls that can't tell their stories in less than 13 episodes!

I stopped watching it because it made me depressed and feel like a failure. No joke.
Apply for NASA!

This season? Tamako Market!

Wait, 789, are you saying Skypeia isn't totally terrible? Because it is. That arc almost made me drop One Piece all together. It's so overlong and boring with some absolutely awful character designs. The fights outside of
the giant snake
weren't even that fun or creative.

I think Skypiea suffers a lot due to unnecessary focus to shitty side-characters, but the adventurous feel on the forest, the whole thing with the
giant ark
and especially
Norland's story
were pretty great. I'll agree it's not among the stronger OP arcs, but it has its share of moments.
The scene with Luffy's giant shadow on the sky is awesome.

Oh man congrats on getting approved!

I'd probably say Tamako Market is the anime of the season.

Does Jojo still count?

I personally love Tamako Market, but I think a lot of people here find this season underwhelming to the point where there isn't a "must see" anime for them this season. Next season definitely has some interesting titles though.

I'm genuinely interested in discussing things like whether games like Disgaea would be nearly as successful without the anime attached to it! I personally think that the amount of sales you would gain by making non-niche game would not offset the sales you would lose by abandoning your niche.

The thread was a trap from the start though, people aren't reasonable with anime, unfortunately.

You make me sad.
You know, I was wondering about the need for Toonami in this day and age... but I suppose if there was a Toonami of magical girl shows, I'd probably watch that because I don't want to get into the inevitable trap of watching an episodic show in a completely unintended manner.

Or, alternatively, if I was fluent in Japanese I could just leave it on in the background like I did with reruns of Cheers and Frasier back when I had TV.

So I have Spring Break starting on Friday. From Saturday to Tuesday evening I probably won't be able to watch anything as I won't be home. After that, I intend on binging on anime, possibly even finishing off Utena (though Adolescence will probably have to wait), as well as making progress in S&W. So...it will be some pretty good progress if I use my time efficiently (lol).

Probably no time for Blood C though. Sorry cajun.

Well, it was worth a shot. I know there are a lot of people on Gaming side who are probably a lot more knowledgeable about niche games than I am. At the very least, I wanted to get that person thinking about whether the games he enjoyed playing would exist if it weren't for their niche fanbase.

Woah, that was fast! Thanks for the suggestions guys!

I think I'll star with JoJo's, Senyuu and Tamako Market, those look right up my alley lol.

Man I feel so outdated in terms of anime, I just finished watching Another, Steins;gate (EL PSY FN CONGROO) and Fate/Zero.

Oh and I'm watching Rurouni Kenshin for the first time (yup, that's right on 2013...I can't believe I never watched this series as a kid, it's amazing!)

I, for one, welcome our new KyoAni overlords.

I remember being disappointed with this. I read the director was of the the belief that they shouldn't do what is possible with real actors. Now I only need to look at the state of current Final Fantasy, and it all makes sense.

Worryingly, it has only become more prophetic.

That was always right about the otaku anime industry. It wasn't prophetic.

mmmm feet.
Rex Ryan's favorite video.

Space Brothers is targeted at people who've squandered their life's potential and yearn for a second chance at their dreams.

I don't know what my life's potential is, so I choose to bring joy to the world.

Yu-Gi-Oh! ZeXal 06

Makes you want to protect it.

Eh, the episode wasn't bad as most of the time was spent on the duel. I am tuning myself out of the non-dueling parts of the show, so maybe that's for the best. Even if these kids are terrible duelists.

A friend pointed out that Mutta and Kenji were watching Two and a Half Men on the latest Space Brothers.
IDH5ee6l.jpg

Hrm. I don't know anything about the show, but those two guys don't look like Charlie Sheen or whatshisname from That 70s Show.

Then again, assuming that Two and a Half Men is still on the air in 2025, this is like season 30 of the show, so maybe they switched out the cast!

A cute little episode with a silly side plot about girls thinking Red Kiss Bro is Madoka's boyfriend. Some backstory to Madoka and the Jersey Club. Better get back to giant robots soon, though.

Yeah, I don't think it's Two and a Half Men... He thinks they look like Sheen and that other dude but... Who knows.
The guy on left wears the same kind of shirt as Charlie Sheen.

Perhaps pertinent would have been a better choice of adjective. Still, that's some good satire!

But then again, that was more the territory of the original No More Heroes. The sequel was much softer in that regard.

Those look like clothes Charlie and Allen would wear.

It could be. Skeezy looking guy hitting on some woman. That's basically the premise of the show isn't it? lol

Maybe this is the reboot and they recast the actors but kept the wardrobe!

It's only my imgur full of miscellaneous nonsense. I wish I had more lewd things like that in it.

Hmmm, that reminds me. With my massive folder of categorized images, and my discerningly good taste, I could (and should) probably put together a nice 100+ "best of" Minus gallery or something... Well, maybe some day.

I've just skipped through half of Kotoura 05, but I still pretend I'm going to watch the rest since it isn't the worst show ever (except the part in 04 with the grandpa...).
I might have a problem.

It's great bro. Girl gang leaders trying to out street each other.

Anything with delinquents (esp. female delinquents) I love.

Btw, does Yankee-kun to Megane-chan have an North American english manga release? I know it's got a Singaporean english release but that doesn't help me very much.

Weird that it got a drama instead of an anime.
