Let's not pretend like they're not going to show some big names at E3.
Even if you're a big Sony fan you have to admit the roster is pretty underwhelming so far. Sweet Tooth vs Fat Princess? Who cares? I like Parappa but he hasn't had a game in ten years.
Smash Bros has smaller characters like Olimar and the Ice Climbers, but the poster boys are always heavy hitters like Mario, Link, Kirby, etc. Widely beloved characters with rich history.
For the debut of this game Sony decided to show off... some guy from Killzone?

To paraphrase Warhol, if you steal, make it the same or better quality. Gameloft games you mentioned are several orders of magnitude worse than what they're copying, and that's what makes them so laughable. This, on the other hand looks very solid, and has twists of its own that make sense given the source material (LBP stage building itself for example). I suspect this is probably going to end up being more like Forza vs. GT, than Nova vs. Halo. What about when Gameloft copied Halo and Uncharted? I'm not particularly interested in this game (or, for that matter, in Smash Brothers), so I think the only genuinely interesting discussion in here would be where we draw the line.

As if Drake, Jack, Ratchet, Snake, Cole, etc. etc.
As if Drake, Jack, Ratchet, Snake, Cole, etc. etc. won't make appearances here? Plus already confirmed 3rd party characters?
Arguing the roster vs. Nintendo's in this fashion is really petty.
-_- Could they clone Smash bros any more? talk about a out right clone try and do your own thing geez

I think taking the safe route for this was the best decision. As someone who has played Smash Bros, this is very appealing.
The game seriously blew my expectations away. I was expecting crap, but I got something with great promise and potential.
Wow - this was even more overwhelming than I thought.
JUST to be entirely fair, the original Hot Shots Golf dev team is the same one that made Mario Golf.
As a Nintendo fan, this literally makes me sick. SSB is a staple of Nintendo, and it's not right for another company to basically copy and paste the game and call it their own. Hopefully Nintendo will sue or something, because this is so wrong.
Is Jak/Daxter confirmed?

There's a Jak & Daxter stage and they don't show up in the background (Kiera does though).
They're as good as confirmed.

Lol at the saltiness of smash bros fans. Never change!

I'm not sure you're following me here: this is a broader discussion not specifically tied to this game. The point I'm making is this: many people are often offended by "blatant copies," as you put it. Like Gameloft games. People are modestly upset when games are somewhat unique but still borrow very heavily from others, like Dante's Inferno clearly did from God of War -- it wasn't quite as blatant as Gameloft titles are, but the influence was still very explicit and obvious. And on the opposite end of the spectrum, you have games like Killzone which, again, clearly sprung in to existence because of Halo, and shared a general "sci fi FPS" vibe with Halo, but was more than enough its own game that no one reasonably complained about the similarities.
In other words, there are degrees of mimicry. If you're asking why anyone would ever be put off by mimicry, the answer would be, "because sometimes it's very blatant and extreme." Whether this game happens to fit that description is another matter -- I don't think we know yet -- and isn't really my central point.

This roster is missing Klonoa...except that he was recently featured on the wii. He would have been a great inclusion though. Or at least a cute one.
I'm not surprised by the backlash, I'm a Nintendo hater if anything, and I thought it was pretty embarrassing. Not that carbon copies are unusual from publisher to publisher, Sony did Crash Team Racing for PS1, it's too late to be shocked this can happen.
