Jesus Murphy didn't want to be there. What did Lorne have to do to get him to come on? Guy acted like he'd been thrown on stage as part of a hostage situation. I was setting myself up for massive disappointment thinking he'd do some new stand up material.

this might be as good a place to ask for this I suppose, especially since I'm a little drunk...

anyone can find a SNL TV Funhouse episode title: Ah Lin the skater man (阿林高速溜冰員)? I looked on youtube and can't find anything and I remeber this from a long time ago. Wiki showed that it was aired on Feb 14th 1998. I remeber watching this with another buddy of mine and we even talked about that episode a few months ago but can't find anything about it. if not for the Wiki I would almost thought I imagined that whole thing... anyone can find a video of it?

edit: nvm I found it on yahoo video of all places.

It seemed more to me like Chevy Chase didn't want to be there. Has Eddie Murphy spoken ill about SNL before?

As someone above mentioned he had beef over a sketch with David Spade making some joke about his career, and he called out Spade and Lorne on it, basically saying hey I helped build this house and you're gonna shit on one of your own? My guess, especially after his appearance tonight, he's still not that warm and fuzzy about things. He's kind of a private dude anyway these days it seems. Apparently he has a ton of big parties at his mansion where he screens movies for friends and tells stories of his career (all this according to Neal Brennan). Sounds like a warm guy to those in his life but kinda cold to anybody outside of that bubble.

Kind of annoyed that my local station inserted a promo for a Dave Matthews concert over the beginning of the Wayne's World sketch, way to go WAVY 10.

Unsure if you have seen it, but Rolling Stone did a top 141 list of all the cast members:

http://www.rollingstone.com/tv/lists/saturday-night-live-all-141-cast-members-ranked-20150211

Great read.

They ranked the entire new cast #81-92 ?????

Have they seen any shows from this season ?

Seriously, what the Fuck? This list was clearly made by someone who has seen maybe 1 episode of SNL in their life.

Cecily Strong ranked more than 10 spots higher than Will Forte and Darrell Hammond ? You've got to be joking. Lol GTFO

I was trying to find the Eddie Murphy clip but.... he literally didn't make a single joke? I don't get it... Now I'm too scared to watch the clip because it sounds awkward as hell.

Yeah. It looked like an awkward moment. They had so many writers and dont know why they couldnt write in some jokes for his part.

I recorded it. Watched the first hour and fast forward through a good portion of the rest, stopping here and there. It was pretty meh. Too much new stuff for my liking. There was also a lot of awkward moments where they were supposed to cut to something else but there was a delay (Eddie Murphy's, for example). It was like they never did a live show before.

Ended up passing out at Kayne, finished this morning. Absolutely fantastic all around. Do wish they went a bit longer for a few more sketches, be them recycled or not.

I still can't believe they wasted 5 minutes on that awful Kanye West performance. At least the Miley Cryus one was well done.

I was hoping Eddie Murphy was going to actually do a sketch or something.

I just don't think he has it in him anymore. I didn't expect anything more from him to be honest, but I was hoping there would be something left in the tank for the special.

Only two things I didn't really care for.

* I never found the Californians thing funny and to have something that painfully long killed me. I would have rather had another Delicious Dish sketch or take some of that time to actually put Final Jeopardy in Celeb Jeopardy.
* Chris Rock's lead-in to Eddie Murphy was fantastic, but I was hoping there'd be a little more from Murphy. Little disappointed.

Overall, I liked it, even of some of the stuff was kitschy. I do wish there had been more 'classic' sketches, but, I'm happy it was people making appearances and doing throwbacks/nods.

Edit: Oh, and for the record, I was totally okay with McCarthy's Matt Foley. It will never be as good as the original but I really appreciated the nod.

I was so happy to see Jeopardy and Wayne's World.

Thats really all I wanted I didn't leave disappointed.

Although an Eddie Murphy bit would have been nice.

It was basically like he was showing up to accept an award.

I honestly don't remember what he said, that's how bad it was.
He basically said, "thanks for liking what I've done, it means a lot." Then got nervous when the cameras didn't cut away to commercial like they were supposed to do.

pretty disappointing segment.
Man, I was really hoping for something funny. Didn't have to be legendary, didn't have to be great, didn't even have to be good, just something to laugh at, but... not like this... not like this... =(

I was hoping Eddie Murphy would say more, but that's kind of what I expected. Overall I loved this. It was so cool to see so many funny people on one thing together. It felt like a very special thing that you don't see all that often. And by the time the 50th anniversary rolls around, some of these people may have passed, sadly, or be too old to perform.

Jerry Seinfeld was a highlight. I love seeing John Goodman in anything, and healthy. Chris Rock, Betty White, Steve Martin, Adam Sandler being funny, Wayne's World, Will Ferrell, Paul McCartney sounding pretty good for his age, Paul Simon melts my heart. It just felt good to see everyone again.

Oh, and Celebrity Jeopardy is probably the most consistently funny skit on the show. The Bill Cosby joke was sad/great.

I honestly don't remember what he said, that's how bad it was.

He walked from side-to-side, keeping the clapping going for a while (couldn't tell if it was a faux-ego joke, or maybe "clap for SNL history"). He said a few generic things about SNL and then had a brief exchange with the cue card guys like "were you gonna -- I um -- anyway" and then they went to commercial.

I wondered if the cue card guy just totally failed to have his cards ready?

Edit: also, Robert de Niro, for pete's sake, read your lines at least once before heading out on stage.

I was hoping for more live skits considering the cast that was there. In reality the opening credits were misleading. Anybody who uttered a word was mentioned. It had less skits than any regular SNL episode which was disappointing and the Californians thing was too long and not that funny.

- They kept flashing past skits without context so if you didn't understand the build-up how could the joke make sense? They should have shown more skits in full including true classics:
Chippendale with Farley and Swayze
Mr. Robinson's neighborhood
Downer Debbie where everyone breaks
...so many more

- Chris Rock's Eddie Murphy intro was pretty good but Eddie did nothing. Wtf? He single-handedly turned SNL around. He should have done something.

- Fallon and Timberlake's opening was "eh".

- Steve Martin's opening was pretty good.

- John Lovitz should have had a bigger role.

- Bill Murray's Jaws theme might have been the funniest live moment. Though, Wayne's World wasn't too bad.

- James Franco should have kept his mouth shut and Kanye West sucked.

- Weekend update was just weak.

It's like they were trying to bounce between live and past sketches. They should have just chose one or the other and stuck to it instead.

I actually thought everyone was going to do sketches for 3.5 hours. Instead we got a ton of hosting and old clips with only a few sketches.

They really had the best cast ever last night and messed it up. I'm not sure if it's the show director's fault, or that some of the actors didn't want to do sketches, but this could have been an amazing unforgetable event.

I felt like they delivered. Of course there were going to be clips and it was a unforgettable SNL event.

I agree that it should have been longer and more original content with various cast members of different eras.

More than anything, that Rolling Stone list made me so glad that Jenny Slate got fired after only one season. What a blessing in disguise that ended up being - for Slate and for all of us.

Overall it was funny but the Eddie Murphy stuff was really weird (Chris Rock has all this energy talking about him, them he saunters out and gives a buttoned down acceptance speech). Par for the course though, the Californians bit was way too long and mostly terrible. Also, given that it was 3.5 hours, I thought Weekend Update should have been given a lot more time, it was so short and abrupt.

They were selling ads at a higher cost, hence why they added more time.

Saturday Night Dead!

This article is amazing because it's all on one web page. I miss the days of the internet before it was all slide web-page clickbait sluttyness.

the url changes as you scroll, lol so I'm sure they're getting 141 clicks

I love how SNL is always dead.

I only got to watch an hour or so in the middle last nignt, I'll watch it all on Hulu tonight, but goddamn, I forgot how unfunny Jerry Seinfeld really is.

Eddie and Chevy probably still have some bad blood with Lorne and some of the cast members. It was obvious by their interactions in the pre show and when they were on air. I would not be surprised if Murphy demanded money to be there since he hasn't done anything with the show in quite some time. Chevy, well he's just Chevy and there's a famous story about Bill Murray punching him in the face right before a show started.
