Micheal Rosenbaum was Martinex, aka. diamond-dude that hung with Sly. One of the original guardians in the comics, or thereabouts.

Why are people still acting like the Stan Lee scene is a reference to Fantastic Four? It's obviously Civil War he's referencing.

The Watcher and Ego are classical related to the Fantastic Four.

Sure, but they still don't own the rights to Fantastic Four. The story of how they got the rights to Ego is well known.

Lee specifically mentions FedEx. Which describes his role in Civil War, not FF. I get the wishful thinking but the reference wouldn't fit.

From the mouth of Kevin Feige:

Yes, we always thought it would be fun. Stan Lee clearly exists, you know, above and apart from the reality of all the films. So the notion that he could be sitting there on a cosmic pit stop during the jump gate sequence in ”Guardians" was something very fun – James had that idea and we shot that cameo and loved it so much, you know, you see it a couple of times in the movie. It wasn't in for a long time and we put it back in towards the end of the process where he references that time he was a Federal Express agent – we thought it would be fun to put that in there because that really says, so wait a minute, he's this same character who's popped up in all these films.

Doesn't change anything. See above. Stan Lee talks about being a FedEx agent in the movie (as confirmed by Feige), and the only movie he ever appeared in as a FedEx agent is in Civil War. He wasn't a FedEx agent in FF. It's not a reference to that movie. Sorry to burst your bubble, but Marvel Studios don't own the rights to Fantastic Four (a deal of that scale would have been talked about online before they could 'reveal' it in a movie), and they can use the Watcher and Ego characters. Simple as that.

The licences of these guys are from the Fantastic Four licence packet. That people on NeoGAF dont get that this has nothing to do with his cameo from Fantastic Four has no relation to this. Its only about the characters. He could said FedEx or Western Union or Interstellar Space Mail. Doesnt matter. Its about the characters that appeared on screen. Its like when you would complain about the mail company when he would sat next to Galactuns and the Silver Surfer.

Stan Lee in FF was clearly a nod to Willie Lumpkin the FF's mailman

The Watchers aren't a part of the FF package. That was always just internet speculation. Otherwise they simply wouldn't be in this movie.

It's probably like the Skrulls - people thought for a long time Marvel Studios couldn't use the Skrulls (including Marvel Studios themselves), but there was a recent article where Gunn talked about how they could use the race of the Skrulls, but not specific named members of the Skrull race. Those are owned by Fox. In a similar manner, it's very logical that they can use the concept and race of the Watchers, but they probably can't use specifically named Watchers like Uatu.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/07...he-skrulls-says-guardians-director-james-gunn

Simply put, if there was a deal for Fantastic Four, it's impossible that that happened in so much secrecy. Those kind of major studio deals always leak out early. And there's nothing in this movie that proves that it has happened. It's a giant leap, and frankly it's a bit of wishful thinking. If a deal like that ever happens, you'll read about it online before it gets dropped in a movie as a gag. That's not how those things work. That shit costs a lot of money and both companies would want to make sure they promote the hell out of it. It's how the industry operates.

Yes. But you sre Wrong. Specific Members of the Skrull race are owned by Constantin Film.

I got it from that article, which got it from James Gunn. I'll take his word for it:

The film rights to the Skrulls, Marvel Comics' green-skinned shapeshifters, are co-owned by Marvel Studios and 20th Century Fox, according to Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn.

And directly from his Twitter: https://twitter.com/JamesGunn/status/750774146414415873

Some specific Skrulls are at Fox. But the Skrulls as a whole are co-owned.

I'm going with Gunn over random internet guys honestly.

But even then, it doesn't really change my argument, whoever owns which rights. Point is, Marvel Studios doesn't own the Fantastic Four, and the Stan Lee scene wasn't a hint that they do.

Yeah, people should who know their shit can fail on Fake News. Welcome to 2017!

And to the other stuff, yeah. You can be right. Or they didnt wanted to spoil it. The movie is still not coming before next weekend to the US. We will see, the Watcher and Ego remain to be usually associated to the Fantastic Four.

I really enjoyed this, it was much better than I expected after seeing the trailer. The humour works much better in the context of the film.

I think tonally it was a bit weird in places, the end battle was too long, and the characters spent way too much time telling each other their emotions. That's kind of ironic I suppose given Mantis' abilities.

Definitely a good time though, and amongst Marvel films it feels really unique.

Very good movie. Probably even better than the first one. More emotions, but still the same strengths.

I really like the cast, they are great and have a good chemistry. I like the Guardians way more than the avengers. Also this was the best Marvel movie since GotG.

Well done, Mr. Gunn. Excited for the next one.

Surprised some people didn't like Baby Groot. For me he was the best part of the movie. Absolutely loved all of his scenes. He might just be the biggest highlight in all of the MCU for me.

I'm glad they had him growing up though in the post-credits scene though. Not something that would have worked at all for another movie.

Source on that?
Because I'm pretty sure no one here knows the details of the contracts they made. Saying "x is usually related to y" doesn't necessarily mean that this is how the character rights were divided up.

Fox doesnt own anything from the Fantastic Four. Its all owned by Constantin FIlm.

Constantin Film owns the general movie rights for the FF. Bernd Eichinger bought the rights in the 80s and I have yet to see anyone explain how the rights would have ended up at Fox.
There is a reason Constantin Film is still listed as a co-producer. That said, Fox may very well be in control of the rights. We have no idea what their deal with Constantin Film is.

They do this kind of deals all the time. Resident Evil is also owned by Constantin Film and Sony is the one who gets the big label name pushed in the heads of the people.
And of course Fox will have a contract that allows them making the movies. But the question is whether that contract remains after three bad movies.

And yes, its an assumption. But it makes very much sense. I will remember to put in future posts a disclaimer that the chance that Uatu is part of the F4 package is pretty big.

Just dropping in to say my partner and I much preferred Vol.2 to the original. We both loved it. The humour hit for us and I felt we got much better character moments too.

We enjoyed the first film, but this one made us fans. Well done Marvel.

Although I felt it was just 120 minutes of "here's another great song!"
"play that amazing song"
"here's another song I like"
"yeah the nerds are gonna lap this song up and think it's the best thing ever"
"more songs I really like woooo"

I still really enjoyed it.

They did go all out,
a whole wall in the caverns turned into his face, with dialogue and everything. I don't know if you expected him to speak or something with the planet face but his face would have to be moving at like 10000 m/s to make expressions.

I was surprised that they put a gigantic face on the side of a planet at all, they could easily have had only Kurt Russell as Ego's vessel for the whole film, and many prior comic book films would have done that. We've come a long way since Galactus as a big cloud.
Not sure about the need for spoiler text since this is the spoiler thread.

They did have him animate rocks into a face which was cool but it still isn't what I was referring too.

After the initial reveal of the 'face' I thought that maybe we might get a real representation of his face as a last ditch scream before he is defeated. They could have easily had Peter and yondu flying away while Ego morphs the surface as he is anticipating his immediate death. Would have been a believable reaction and something they built up so it would make it easier for more casual audience members to accept.

Again a tiny nitpick to an otherwise great movie.

This film was a relentless assault on the senses with very little meaningful downtime or breathing space. Exausting, and not half as charming or surprising as the first.

Just finished it. Amazing movie all around, better than the first in my opinion. Also, Peter making Pacman and Teenage Groot with a messy room lool 5/5 for me.

Got back a couple hours ago. Really enjoyed it. The story was great, performances were on point and I laughed a fair bit. It was just a good time at the cinema, like the first, though I found this to be better than the first in pretty much every way. Not a single dull or uninteresting moment.

It was disappointing to me unfortunately.

I felt like it was written with a much younger audience in mind and it felt as though it was a first in the series type film, setting up those to follow it.

In some countries he refer to himself as a "mail man" for this movie, and mail man has a distinct difference with a fed ex delivery man in (at least some of) these countries. Put two and two together and you will see why some of us thought he was referring to his role in F4 and not his civil war role.

Its not fair to accuse us of wishful thinking here when the regional change made us thought he's referring to his F4 role.

Why are people using spoiler tags in the spoiler thread?

This movie had an excellent villlain reveal. Probably the best of all Marvel movies. Star Lord reaction felt so authentic and viseral. Amazing moment.

Living in the shadow of Amaz
Man, that was very fucking good.

I went in with tempered expectations and came out loving it more than the first.

Straight up fell asleep during this

Second time it happened in my life, first was Van Helsing

Try not to watch a movie if you were feeling sleepy before the movie, or at least clear out the activities that you think will wore you out before the movie that day.

He said mail man in my version.

Which "versions" were these? Was it dubbed, subbed, or in English with different dialogue?
It's very possible that they just put a different translation because they thought it would make more sense locally, right?
Version I watched in Thailand said FedEx on the English dialogue track, but I have no idea what the Thai subs said.

Maybe it's like in Winter Soldier where his list of things to check out was different in different markets?
