I was just about to run a game of the Dresden Files RPG, but then I discovered this chart from Evil Hat Productions (the publisher) stating their sales performance from the last quarter.

"It’s easy to look at these numbers and respond with alarm, but remember that a) the 4th quarter of the year is typically pretty crappy, and b) Evil Hat’s catalog is aging without a lot of new-product blood, something which we should be remedying over the next two years."

Thanks for the tip, AusGAF. I could stare at this for hours! Fuck playing a game when I can just analyse this and what it could possibly mean for the company whose game I was going to play. Who needs games when you've got sales figures?

I'm sure you other stats lovers will be able to join me in analysing the above data and discussing the implications. You tell me how much you love it, please show me how it's done.

Talking about games and talking about how games sell aren't mutually exclusive. People can, and often do, do both. I don't get why you're making this into some silly either/or thing.

Sales figures and analysing data is a lot of fun. Personally i actually kinda enjoy that more than games themselves.

Pretty much.

I don't get why you think that's what I'm saying instead of noticing me totally taking the piss.

I find it humourously bizarre how interesting people find sales data, in at least one case above, more so than the actual product. Seriously! Wander on over to forums talking about other forms of gaming, the kind that came before video games. Pay attention to the number of people talking about sales figues; you'll quickly notice that number is zero. This seems, at a glance, to be a thing that's exclusive to video gamers, and it's funny how serious things get over it too.

it's not exclusive, it's exactly the same as dream team stuff or fantasy football... or discussing how many fingers a rugby player got up a poooper this week

on the west coast forum on Bigfooty there is a thread on Tom Swift's ridiculous hair cut.

10 pages long....

its human nature to procrastinate and talk about stupid shit.

Game talk, for Danoss' sake: I got Kirby's Epic Yarn from Dickies sale thing and it's pretty neat. It's kinda like Good-Feel's previous Wii effort, Wario Land: Shake It, in that the gameplay is fairly basic but the art is fantastic. Really a testament to visual style over technical muscle. Music is nice and relaxing, too.

Also gonna try OG Fallout for the first time over the weekend after jumping on GoG's free offer of it.

Yes, how dare I have a different opinion and voice it! I certainly shouldn't poke fun at things that I find strange at all.

Come on mate, you've taken the piss out of it and people have mentioned they like it back which is fair enough. No need to get defensive.

Yes, look at the giant pissing match the BGG thread turned into. It has also spawned a tonne of discussion and wasn't just a list of figures and clarifications in some cases. Oh, wait...

After being accused of "being a knob about it", that's a bit bloody different. If people have a problem, I'll leave. That seems to be the general sentiment around here.

I also like discussing tv ratings, box office numbers and sporting stats (and have made some decent money on that last one). Also the fact that i happen to enjoy the medium whose stats are being analysed only makes it more interesting to me.

I don't think it's everyones cup of tea but i just enjoy discussing it.

Hey, Japan-AusGAF: Wondering if I could ask a favour. We have some instant pudding we've bought but I can't decipher the instructions.

I'm guessing with this you add 150mL of milk, stir and then refrigerate.

This one? I have no idea... Add a bunch of stuff? There are a few sachets in the packet so I figure it might be those... maybe.

Thanks a heap in advance, we've had them in the cupboard for ages and I'm really like to make them!

You said zero, the number is clearly more than that given my thirty seconds of Googling.

So there's snobbery in the board game community too? Oh my. It must be a terrible community!

Second one is just the ingredients of the stuff, when to eat it by, how to store it, seller etc. Cooking instructions must be somewhere else!

Edit:
I haven't really watched anything in the past couple years, but here's some of my favourites if you haven't watched them:

Oooohh thanks rahk. All look interesting, especially the last one. I'm a sucker for anything vaguely related to baseball lol. Will check out!

1)add one sachet into a bowl

2)add 150ml of cold milk

3)mix it with a spoon
Great, thanks. I thought that would've been the instructions as it seemed like a pretty simple packet thing.

Whoops! I found some numbers elsewhere on the packet so I assume this is it. I guess you have to do something for 60 seconds in the first step?

Thanks so much again guys.

Oh and Holy, unlikely to be able to make it...

how to eat

1) each pack in the product, chill in the fridge (about 60 minutes)

2) soy milk pudding (white pack), open up and put in a bowl

using a spoon, cut it into the size as you like

3) add the black syrup? and eat

rough translation.....I don't have a dictionary handy so its off my head >_>

I don't give a shit whether or not you're poking fun at it, I just happen to disagree that it's boring. This shit shapes our industry and the direction of games to come. Calm down.

That's pretty good!

Also the bottom stuff says to be careful when opening because the stuff can fly everywhere. You rarely see huge changes in colour of parts of the pudding, heat won't cause quality problems. Eat it early after opening.

midonnay you learnt japanese by yourself right? What books did you use?

Excuse me? I'm not one of the people getting worked up over this. It's also quite funny that I never once said boring, not once. You have every right to disagree, just as I do. I also said that I find it quite amazing how serious some people take this, which is demonstrated by the number of people who have gotten their back up over this.

So, why don't you try calming down?

Oh, whatever. Look, I try my best not to come in and yell MAN WHO FINDS THIS SHIT BORING AS HELL LIKE I DO when AusGAF discussion turns to shit I find boring as hell, so I'd appreciate it if you refrained from doing the same.

I'm rubber, you're glue.

Anyway, it's actually impossible to cancel an AirAsia flight once you're booked in, which is bizarre. I can't even tell them not to bother delaying the flight a bajillion times on the tarmac or whatever. Oh well. Their site is complete horseshit, too. Oddly good customer service though, once you get through their phone maze.

Apparently you're not allowed to eat meat today if you're in a super fundamental christian family like I am.

Mmmm, bacon egg and cheese toasted sandwich.

ALSO, WHY IS FISH NOT MEAT?

I did the basics at uni.....uhm yookoso book?

but nowadays, just going through the makino grammar dictionaries + anki word lists at own pace.

Anyone interested in a metallic blue DS phat? It's in pretty good condition, has a stylus and charger. Haven't turned it on for a while.

Kritz I'm of the same opinion as you, but apparently something about warm blooded vs cold blooded blah blah blah. More orthodox religions fast on Good Friday.

How's Japanese 101 like at your uni? I kinda want to do it as an elective.

I say this because I already know that much Japanese, probably, and just want an easy filler class. But also because I really loved Japanese in high school and got really screwed over by forces outside of my control (there is an extremely boring story here, I'll save you it).

I'm really only a flashcard or two away from actually remembering my four years of highschool Japanese, and I always considered it a shame I never had the chance to learn that language fully when I was at a good age to do it.

EDIT:

OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD

Oh nice, I might buy some makino books, they look real handy!

Kritz, do it if you actually do know the basics. Otherwise it might not be the cakewalk filler class you were hoping for.

neither do people but I ain't see nobody cookin' up dem.

Now if you'll excuse me I have to go spend the next five hours with the religious side of my family. At least they're fun to drink with.

Does anyone else have a kind of family dynamic where one side are supes religious and the other side aren't religious at all? I only find it interesting because the religious side are all middle-ass-class blue collar electricians and hairdressers and shit, where as the other side are lawyers and doctors and engineers.

The interesting part comes always kinda wishing I was with the other. The religious side has lots of beer and grilled BBQ and loud shit talking filled with copious amounts of more-than-casual racism. The other side is expensive wine in expensive glasses eating expensive food being boring and talking about how their horse is doing well in the races.

Hrmf. Families.

--

As for the Japanese, it's been like five years since I've done it so I can barely remember what I even used to know.

Something like, 200 kanji, a pretty decent self introduction consisting of my name, age, birthday, family, likes and dislikes, favourite activities / things I like to do. I used to be able to do veeery basic Q&A stuff like "what did you do on thursday" / "I killed a hooker and snorted coke off her swollen ruptured body". I could combine sentences fairly well and do stuff like "because", "but", "and". And I was usually pretty good with tenses (past, present) and general grammar.

But it's been so long I probably would need to pay attention and relearn stuff, but... I suspect that's something that's obtainable for me.

I still have tiny adorable cousins to play with and about-same-age drinking cousins to drink with and far-older-beginning-to-start-up-family cousins to ask for advice and stuff so family is pretty awesome right now

I'm rubber, you're glue.

You know, I honestly don't see how I'm seen as the aggressor here. I have stated a clearly unpopular view, an opinion. This has been pointed out by many as wrong and that I'm somehow very angry about it (I honestly don't really care). I get called a knob, told that others don't give a shit what I think, they're perfectly entitled to their views (as if I'm not somehow) and that I should do what others do (because why?).

Jintor, I know you're an intelligent person, so maybe you can explain how someone saying they find something uninteresting, and that they don't understand the fascination, as declaring it boring (please don't, I really don't care)? They're not one and the same, so try calming down. You're clearly heavily invested in something that I've indicated I don't find interesting and are somehow wounded by my thoughts on the topic.

-----------------

Since I'm clearly the Anti-Christ of AusGAF because I don't like what everyone else likes, I think I might make myself scarce. I'm sure many people will be sad to see me go, considering how popular I am. Sincerely, I'm sure many of you have your fingers crossed that I'm not mucking around here, don't worry, I'm not. It's clear that I have taken my expression of thoughts a step too far. I have been told last night and today by people here that I'm either an arsehole or a knob, so it's pretty clear that even before this ridiculous discussion I wasn't well thought-of.

I was in the process of trying to put an RPG together for anyone on AusGAF that wanted to join, and it's hard to make something for everyone's tastes. I was hoping to ask around and see what everyone was looking for, hopefully there would be a happy medium in my collection that plays well over Mumble. Alas, I won't be following through with that any longer, so sorry to anyone who may have enjoyed that. I have a group I play with outside of AusGAF, so I'll keep my PnP RPG fun there.

Please don't send me any invites to any SydGAF board gaming events as I'm no longer interested. Again, I have another group to play with and I'll leave there too. Jintor is (rarely) a participant of the SydGAF group, so I don't want to ruin that dynamic by turning up with the sentiments that clearly got under his skin in the last page or two here.

I know I won't be missed, but whatever.
