Sense? Blech.
not to derail this thread more but thankfully that won't be an issue since HTC phones have great dev communities and unlockable bootloaders.

Has anyones headphone jack stopped working? It just happened to a a friend's phone, wondering how common the issue is.

camera, screen and battery all will / or are eclipsed by x or s3.

So you're saying that an unreleased phone (that we don't even know the specs of) and a phone released 6 months after the GNex are both better than the GNex?

The camera phone was bad even when the Nexus released. That's the main reason I'm holding off and hoping for the Galaxy SIII, even though I'd have to deal with Touchwiz. Well, that and battery life, but I'm not holding out hope for that.

The only thing wrong is battery but any LTE device until they get built in is going to suck. Once they get VoLTE running its going to be another boost since you won't need both radios constantly on.

The S4 soc will have the LTE radio built in, so we'll get awesome battery before VoLTE comes out.

I'm really hoping that the Galaxy 3 or whatever Samsung are unveiling on the 4th is available on Sprint from the get-go. Not going to hold my breath, but my current contract expired in early April so I'm due for an upgrade and want to finally jump on the smartphone bandwagon. So for me it's either the next Galaxy or hold out for the iPhone 5 whenever that thing bothers to show up. I have no real preference between Android or iOS, so at this point it's whichever comes to Sprint first :/

Been using an LG Rumor Touch (with no data plan) for the last two years.

The physical keyboard is nice but good lord the touchscreen and software are terrible. Upgrading to a smartphone of any kind would be a huge jump in tech either way.

i remember my little sister had that phone on Virgin Mobile... she was ok with it, but was super happy to get an Android phone instead. all i remember was the touchscreen was really wonky...

Absolute bargain! That's only £250 pounds. Crazy cheap. Even with tax I'd still pay under £300...

EDIT: Are they selling it in white? I really hope they bring this to the UK.

Yeah that's an insanely good deal.

Nice! Hope this means Google is looking into making their own phone down the road.

Maybe google will push for the pin docks to hit the states now?

I sure hope so!

Does Google have any stores or sell their unlocked phones through any retailers? I'm very close to the US and want to pick up a Galaxy Nexus for $399 but the page isn't open to Canadians.

VanMardigan

has calmed down a bit.
Regular sim

Great. Also, I'm assuming it has the same free "tethering and wireless hotspot" menu that my Nexus One has and that's been removed from the carrier versions?

Just making sure that I dont lose any functionality, since my N1 is my clutch wireless hotspot and I dont want to pay for a tethering plan.

assuming you used it, did you ever get a text from at&t telling you that tethering requires a plan? I got one on my nexus one while running a 4.0 rom and I read somewhere that while 2.3 and below didn't distinguish data used on the phone itself and data done by tethering (the way iPhones/WP7 do) it was possible that this changed.

I want this phone so badly! I have an iPhone right now and the associated data plan and whatever, so if I get this phone, will I have to change anything with my data plan to get internet, etc if I'm on AT&T?

My dog was murdered by a 3.5mm audio port and I will not rest until the standard is dead
Perfect for me since I'm moving to Germany in two months! Good price. Now I can just sell my LTE model in June.

No. Just move the sim card over and thats it.

No, but I really didn't use it heavily

Always when the phone is heavily multitasking.

If you are on a custom rom, you can shut off the button glow animation. It helps to speed up whatever process is related to the button press.

Wanna hear something strange?

I have app drawer set to open when the home button is pressed while on the desktop. If button glow animations are kept on, the frame rate is cut in half when the app drawer transition animation starts. With the animations off, that same transition is a silky smooth 60fps.

Also, another quirk I noticed that's a difference between my GN and iPad 3. In iOS, the system tends to halt animations and data processing while you interact with the screen (scrolling a web page or app for instance), and resumes after you let go.

On the GN (or just Android period), the system continues to process data and animations at the same time you interact with the touch screen. This usually means choppy performance, but results are MUCH faster than they are on the iPad.

Interesting trade offs.....

there was a large article on this on G+, along with some hubub about an intern saying android will never be as smooth because of it.

So my usage of an iphone increased the other day. I was playing with an iphone4 (previously only a 3GS) running the newest ios. Talk about choppy

My father has the i4, so I use it every chance I get. Can't say if its related to the latest update or not, but his phone is noticeably choppier than it was just a few months ago. Its also pretty slow at processing data (loading an app for instance), but that has always been the case. I can recall my now retired DX consistently loading app and app data (web pages too) a bit faster than the iPhone. Although, OS performance consistency (not speed), was always much better on iOS.

Turning off the animations on the Droid (since they were choppy anyway) made that thing greased lightning.

Funny enough, I can't bring myself to do the same on the GN, despite the same benefits. I guess its different when the animations are actually smooth huh? I can bear the extra second or so for the data to display in this case.

The iPhone 4 definitely is choppy after the iOS5 update. I've been using one for 2 weeks after my nexus one broke and im beginning to remember why this phone doesn't work for me.

If I end up getting a nexus, how do I disable the softkey animations? Is it an option in most of the custom roms or is it a framework tweak to flash?
