Well Sahin is definitely our biggest transfer of the year despite being a loan. Looks like the club owners are really serious about backing Rodgers if they're willing to dish out multiple millions for la loaned player. Good sign, IMO.

So our starting XI is probably Reina; Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique; Lucas, Sahin, Gerrard; Suarez, Borini, Assaidi.

Bench; Jones, Carroll, Allen, Kelly, Downing, Coates, Henderson.

I can live with that. Massive improvement over last year.

I don't think Assaidi is in our starting 11 just yet. Won't have to do much to displace Downing, but its not an unfeasible eventuality

I'm going off the basis that Rodgers said he wanted to make signings that would improve the first team, so I'm assuming he was bought with the intention of being a regular fixture.

You're right though, he will need to prove himself (shouldn't be too difficult though).

Lots of rumours about us wanting Sturridge. What say you Liverpool-GAF?

The price being bandied about is £20 million. Ugh.

Would take him for £15 million. Can play on the right or upfront, and knows where the back of the net is.

Would prefer him to Huntelaar to be honest.

There is no way Allen is going to be a bench player this year. The only midfielder we have that's better than Allen is Lucas. I see Gerrard and Sahin as being more in rotation. In fact as I said earlier, any combination of the four main midfielders (Sahin, Lucas, Allen, Gerrard) is a solid midfield, as either Lucas or Allen can play a "back four protector" role, Allen, Gerrard and Sahin can all play the forward attacking role, Lucas, Allen, Sahin and Gerrard can all four of them play the "carrier" role if linking the attack and defense.

I think our strongest 11 has Lucas, Allen and Sahin in the midfield if I'm honest. Unless Gerrard steps up and stops fucking about with horrible passes and first touches.

Sahin will not start this weekend he is not match fit and needs some time.

Yep. Allen, Sahin and Lucas would dominate most midfields in the league so that's great. I just can't see any room for Gerrard though so I imagine Rodgers will want to play him in a more advanced role.

I can't see us keeping Spearing and Adam.

Gerrard on the right wing, luvvly jubbly, you know it makes sense

Hahaha, Schalcke is one terrible club. Don't know how it's called in English but the want a "goodbye" match for Raul. That match you arrange for a player who has been with your club for ten years or more and is a legend among the fans. Not for a player that has spent 2 years at your club because his home club couldn't offer him enough play time.

Really, they're bathing in Raul's success and history. It's a shame for Raul...

We only managed 1 win at Villa park since 2000.

Damn, that is some grim stats. I am less confident now about getting a point there. (well a point should be alright acquiring, but I want 3 points dammit) I wonder if Naismith is going to start. I really want to see what is he capable of and I can see him doing better at the attacking midfield position better than Cahill in the past 2 years or so, not that its hard to improve on that.

Hmm so maybe Liverpool really are paying £5m for Sahin for the year.

That's strange. It's so much money for a one year loan and tbh I'm even sure Liverpool need him that badly, if it was a striker it'd make more sense.

Pretty great deal for Real. They've almost recouped the ridiculously little they paid for him...and he's still their player :lol

Think the math works out that the £5million covers a season's wages and a £2million fee

You're dreaming mate.

There 20 midfields in the PL and that midfield would comfortably dominate at least 15 of them. Personnel wise it should also boss United and Chelsea's midfields, but there's a lot more to playing than just having good players – those teams have world class trainers and in United's case a world class manager.

But I think Allen / Lucas / Sahin / Gerrard is a top 4 quality midfield.

Ah okay. That makes more sense.

Though then it means Arsenal's £2m deal was ridiculously good because that would have meant they were paying less than half his wages!

Anyhow, I just can't believe Madrid don't want to use him. What a good player and Liverpool are the lucky ones cos they'll have him for the year now! Could be a big big help in pushing for 4th.

I almost want him to do well and show a lot of promise, but not well enough for Madrid to want him back. Obviously in all likelihood he'd go elsewhere, even if Madrid did let him go, but I'd like it to be a possibility

If it goes well for him I think there's quite a good chance he could stay at Liverpool long term. Most difficult part would probably be agreeing a deal with Madrid but if he has a good season he'll likely want to stay on, his last year at Real was a bit shit.

Maybe CL football will be a deciding factor - in his mind and with the fee too.

He's going back to Milan. There's a meeting between Milan's emissary Bronzetti and Florentino Perez scheduled on Monday. Confirmed by Bronzetti himself. Not saying it's 100% sure, but it is.

Ugh. I know we didn't need him, and I'd rather see Cleverly and Anderson get the opportunities to progress, but damn I always dreamed of Kaka playing for Utd since he first broke through at Milan. Would've been nice to see :(

Preziosi (Genoa's president): "Kaka' to Milan? I'm optimistic."

Lol, he's even speaking as if he were a Milan employee, shameless thug that he is.
