So does Mercury also have a semblance relating to illusions, or did he get assistance from Neo? Or perhaps both even?

Well then.

Did Opzin hint that he is really old, older than he looks?:p And dang some mytho dump in this episode. The four maidens set up is pretty interesting, including how the power goes from one to another. That transfer process Ironwood suggested sounds kind of scary heh. I guess these maidens could give way a bit to what Cinder has planned (who possibly has stole part of Amber's power).

And then off to what was a really nice fight scene. Dat ending through, Neo screwed up Yang again didn't she? Unless they all have illusion powers of sort.

Missed the last few episodes, but got caught up yesterday and today.

What is even going on anymore? Also I'm upset about Yang and Pyrrha.

Flynt Coal was really good though.

A lot of this mythos building and stuff should've been in Season 1 and Season 2. The first two seasons feel extremely pointless and shallow now. Even from character development and plot progression it feels like there was no focus at all in relation to what's actually happening this season. All the first season established was that "dealing with Grimms suck."

So here's what I'm thinking.
#1 Cinder is trying to draw out the maidens by creating chaos so that she can steal their power

#2 Pyrrha will not become the fall maiden. Team RWBY will become the four maidens. If the color associations with Humorism carry over to the season associations, it will be:

Ruby- Spring
Yang- Summer
Blake- Fall
Weiss- Winter

I agree with this. I think she will agree to do it, but it will go wrong. I think she will be the first character we lose.

Also,
I knew it. Neo is powerful enough create illusions that only certain people can see. This is the same thing she did against Coco.

Have we actually seen Emerald's and Mercury's semblances yet? Not necessarily out of the question that either of them also have some sort of illusion-related semblance.

Yh, season 1 and 2 were just there in my opinion, they were good but they didn't seem to have any purpose. All of this maiden stuff feels completely out of nowhere. There is also too much damn shaky cam during fight sequences.
Am I the only one that still doesn't know how dust works.

We have not, not in full at least. But I think Mercury's control over the rounds from his boots is the closest we have seen yet. And I think Emerald's use of stealth and speed during the fight against Coco and Yatsuhashi is a hint at her Semblance. Neo has only been seen once this entire Volume, it'd be crazy if she was just sitting around doing nothing.

So the my biggest problems with the first two seasons is that they make out Torchwick and Dust to be this really really big deal but it's really not. Not only that but what Cinder and Co. seemed to be doing at this time with Torchwick and the White Fang really didn't make sense. Sure there's worldbuilding but much of the conflict is completely moot or it's irrelevant.

I'm pretty sure that
Neo is the one who has half of the Fall maiden's power.

Also, I'm pretty sure that Rwby's mother was totally a maiden and she was killed.

Phyrra being the first character to die? Nooooooooooo.
pyrrhic : (of a victory) won at too great a cost to have been worthwhile for the victor.
And Yang got Neo'd so hard. *phew* I guess he threw the match. But what does this accomplish?

And yeah, the new stuff is a bit out of nowhere, but it's not like there hasn't been a TON of allusions. I wouldn't say the first couple of seasons are pointless, but they do pale a bit in importance to the overall story. If taken from the perspective of team RWBY though, it's plenty important.

After months of being curious about this show and telling myself to watch it, I finally got around to watching all the episodes this weekend.

I'm enjoying the lore behind this world and the characters.

My favourite character has to be Nora. She is just so amusing. My second would be Jaune. I really enjoy the character who start out clumsy and works hard throughout the story to get stronger. The entire RWBY team is also awesome.

This thread also made me sad. Finding out the person who worked so hard to make this show a reality died.

Of course the weekend I beside to play catch up is the one that preludes a two week break.

All of this aside, I am happy that this season has a more focused story line, if only it was like this from the beginning.
the ending of episode 6 made me legit pissed at mercury and sad for yang

Welcome! Really glad that you enjoyed it. Nora is one of my favorite characters as well. If you haven't yet, I recommend listening to the soundtracks, there are some songs that are told from the point of view of some of the characters and they kinda give some more insight. Plus all of them are really freaking good.

I have listened to a few tracks. I plan on picking up a points card and buying the soundtracks off of iTunes.

According to Shane Newville ' s twitter, a lot of the Yang vs Mercury fight was animated by Monty before his passing. I wonder if we'll see more of his final works as the season progresses.

Obvious foreshadowing is obvious in that World Of Remnant. This break was too long. How was everyone's holiday?

Finally got caught up on this, though I fear for what is to come.

My guess:
Pyrrha being offered the role of Fall maiden is the signal for her death flag. Like someone mentioned before the power of the four maidens will eventually fall into the hands of Team RWBY, and since the only way that is achievable through 'normal' means is through the predecessor's death... I'm fearing the worse for our warrior girl. Here's hoping her and Jean get a lot of time together to sort through things before it happens, otherwise my heart will be irreparable. Poor Pyrrha, poor Jean... one of the few straight OTPs I ship. :lol

Could be, but I have another theory.

Cinder is talking with someone from the White Fang in the flashback. What if its Adam? Maybe Autumn was trailing Adam, and saw that Blake was reluctant to carry out his orders. Blake couldn't be there for the attack, since she'd recognize Cinder and her henches, but what if Autumn passes before the power transfer can be completed, and her dying thought is of that poor girl trying to escape the White Fang?

That could work. I hope you're right.

Some pretty big revelations here.

Lots of answer, and yet more questions. Classic good storytelling.
So it seems Cinder isn't the Big Bad? At the very least she's on the freaking front line of it all. I don't know what to say. It was so fun watching this all come together again. It seems like right now the bad guys are in complete control.

So I'm guessing, after watching ep 7, that
Emerald's illusion semblance can only be seen by one or two people close by in proximity, whereas Neo's illusion semblance can physically manifest and therefore be seen by more than one person given the escape scene in volume 2 after the mech fight
.

Mercury
has robot legs, that bastard!

I am also now confused as to
whether Neo actually has an illusion semblance at all.

Qrow saw the trio... and didn't give their descriptions to Ozpin or authorities? This episode made me more disappointed in the series than anything.

TBF
It was very brief, and notice that from Qrow's POV Cinder's face is blurred so he can't get a positive ID on her. When he turned to face the others they were already gone.

Also, Qrow hasn't been watching the Tournament religiously and has been holed up with Ozpin. It's likely he'll realize what happened in the aftermath as he was busy elsewhere with 'more important' matters.

Why wouldn't she? See my spoiler above your post.

Illusions are such a broad thing that multiple people can easily have related semblances that are still unique in how they manifest themselves. Emerald's is internal, Neo's could easily be external. Hell, Son's shadow clone thing can be technically described as illusions as well. Just because one person has an "illusion" semblance doesn't mean no one else can have one. It's like saying only one person can have a speed related one: one person could be really fast in brief spurts (Ruby), but that doesn't mean someone else couldn't also have a speed related semblance in a completely different way, it's too broad a concept to limit it.

After a two week break we have a new episode, and quite an interesting one at that.

Most of the episode was a flashback showing Cinder's movements up to now. Lots of interesting tidbits. We see how Emerald and Mercury join Cinder. We discover that the White Fang only joined Cinder after being backed gains a wall. We see how Cinder gainedthe Fall maiden's power, and the Qrow was the one to interrupt the process.

Back in the present, we see some of the consequences of Emerald's illusion. We also learn that Mercury has metal legs, allowing to come out relatively unscathed. Of course we don't get to see team RWBY's and JNPR's reactions yet. Hopefully that will be next week
.

Edit:
Forget to comment on how this episode reveals that the is still someone lurking in the shadow, who holds equal or greater rank than Cinder. Curious to finhd out who that is.

That was a good episode. A lot of cool setup for next week. I was anxious to see what happened to Yang though, so this episode has kind of left off on the same cliffhanger as the previous one.

So it wasn't Neo, it was Emerald. I stand corrected. Was nice to see she made an appearance. I really liked this episode. Amber's powers though, damn.

Got around see the last ep, and
lol Mercury has mechanical legs, kind of amusing there, but awesome.:p Well there bit of nice backstory to the villains, along with a great fight against Amber, who is quite something.

As for the upcoming episode, oh man Yang and Pyrrha. D:
Also yay, finally we going somewhere with Yang's mom

I can see the general population and schools/teams turn against Yang, but not Team RWBY. Yeah, Yang is tough and rowdy but she is super sweet and would never do something like that intentionally. The Blake/Yang convo in Volume 2, come on. It seems like Velvet is at least neutral about it. Oh man, can't wait. Give me a proper Raven introduction.

Jorok's response is accurate.

Preview's up. We'll be getting some of the fallout from Yang and Pyrrha's plots, and some reference to the season ending stinger:

http://roosterteeth.com/episode/rwby-season-3-coming-up-next-on-rwby-vol-3-chapter-8

This is interesting. As expected, Yang has it pretty rough right now, though I'm glad she wasn't detained long.

Pyrrha's appearance in the preview piques my curiosity. I'm interested to see how much she tells Jaune, and where their conversation leads.

Velvet is probably the key to figuring out what actually happened. If Ruby tells her that Yang saw something different and Coco told Velvet about seeing Emerald as Yatsuhashi, they'll probably put two and two together. They'll probably think its just cheating to avoid elimination from the tournament and not suspect the larger play, though.

Might still be under "house arrest" or probation/suspension or whatever until things get cleared up though.

True, didn't think of that. I was just glad to see her not being escorted by guards. At least that gives her some privacy to discuss things with her friends and family.
