PS Vita PCH-2000 | Light and Slim. 6 Colors. No More OLED, Instead Cute Penguins

Is the Vita-2000's screen plastic or glass?

My Vita 1000 developed a slight scuff/scratch on the top of the screen. I have no idea how it happened, as I baby the thing. I'm a little miffed. I'm thinking of trading it in to Gamestop and upgrading to the 2000 now. The sucky thing is, I had a screen protector on it, but it got dirt caught underneath it eventually. So, I took the protector off and just hadn't gotten around to placing a new one on it yet.

Just saw SuperUFO's prices, damn. I might be better off importing than buying one from the states. Lowest I've seen it here is $170 new and that still gets beaten by a lot of other sellers.

I ordered a Vita 2000 case from Japan (eBay seller) and choose SAL shipping to Canada. Anyone had experience with SAL shipping before?

It usually takes me 3 weeks to receive a SAL package. But I live in the Netherlands. I don't ever see it taking the full 6 weeks though. It's pretty quick.

4-6 weeks of "it'll get here when it gets here". Though this is with it delivering to the US.

Yeah thats fine... I guess I'm just concerned with it getting lost... I couldn't justify paying for the tracked express shipping.. it was the same cost as the product

This pretty blue hard pouch is what I got

I think it will be fine. I use SAL shipping often and I don't often read about things getting lost either. In fact, I don't ever recall reading that, although I am sure it happens sometimes.

This. I've ordered literally dozens and dozens of times from Japan (have a soft spot for Japanese sweets) with SAL and nothing lost yet.

I just pulled the trigger a few minutes ago and ordered a white Vita from them. It was $154 USD, and $30 shipping going with the UPS/FedEx option, so $184 total. That's about $30 cheaper than the boring U.S. black Vita, when you consider tax.

Finally replaced my broken Vita from 6 months ago. Glad I kept my loaded 64gb card throughout it all.

What about warranty support, though? I'd import, if it weren't for that one matter.

Can't speak for anyone else, or what kind of process, if any, there is, but I figure it's sub-$200. I'll take that chance. If it's not a defect out of the box, it'll probably hold up I'm guessing, at least through a typical 1 year warranty period.

If this was a $400 console or something, yeah I'd be more hesitant.

Question for anyone who imported a Vita 2000 from Japan to the US...

I just ordered one from SuperUFO and I'm wondering if the charger that comes in the box will work in US outlets, or if I'll need to pick up a North American-specific charger.

Thanks!

That's what did me in, too. I've been considering the move from my PCH-1000 to the slim model for a little while now but I was holding out hope for the Lime Green/White version to come to the states. If SuperUFO is going to sell me the one I want for that low of a price, though, I'm in.

No difference on the charger adapter.

So im on vacation in Russia and im thinking about picking up a vita. I used to have a OLED vita but i have 2 questions.

1. Will my Russian bought Vita work just as well as if i bought it in europe? (No restrictions etc)

2. If I have the option go with old OLED screen or is slim worth the slight downgrade? What version number am i looking for to see if its the latest one?

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to answear this!

After playing with my Slim 2 hours I am very pleased. I don't consider the screen a downgrade at all, it looks great as far as I'm concerned. And the entire device just feels much more pleasant.

Apparently only a few buttons were changed but everything feels snappier to me. Very happy with it.

My only disappointment with the slim is its build quality. The 1000 is very solid and feels far better in the hands. The 2000 creaks all over.

Mad props to Superufo.com (and FedEx). Ordered a Vita on Friday, tracking said due Wednesday. Arrived today. Halfway across the world over a weekend.

This feels so much lighter than the 1000 and for the first minute or so the screen seemed "off" compared to the 1000, after that initial adjustment I am fine with it. Very sharp screen.

I have a White 1000 but that White/Light Blue 2000 Is really, really nice looking, jeez. If I can find one for a good price in the future I might bite.

Do these Japanese Vitas still have a different select button to the western ones? I'd like to have X as select and square as back...is it possible? Does this even affect the system anymore like it did on PSP back in the day?

I made the jump from a 1000 to a 2000 over the weekend. I was going to buy the Borderlands 2 bundle on Friday, but Gamestop wouldn't take in my Vita-1000 on account of the serial having rubbed off over time. After going into Target afterwards, I decided I wouldn't pick up the new Vita at full price. I told myself I would pay $170, tops.

Well, the next morning I was checking Best Buy's website and, sure enough, the PS Vita 2000 was on sale for $169.99! I drove up and snagged one.

As you've said, Rezae, the 2000 model is so much lighter than the 1000. However, I can't get used to the LCD screen on it. The colors lack punch and the blacks are your typical LCD grey. Everything about the 2000 is awesome, the comfort, the slim form factor, the new buttons, and weight, except for the screen. I'm really having a tough time transitioning from the OLED.

It's like $180 shipped through Fedex on Superufo. Basically cheaper than if you were to buy a new Vita in the US.

Since this thread just popped back up and I'm thinking about buying a Vita tomorrow:

Have there been any rumors about a potential Vita 3000 yet? I did a quick google and didn't find much.

Nothing points to the Vita getting another redesign, chances are the 2000 is the last one.

This.
This is what I'm afraid of. I currently have a 1000 and I was looking for a 1000 white but it seems like its a unicorn at this point. I'm tempted to upgrade but I'm having a hard time letting the OLED go. I really want a new one though.

I posted something similar in another thread so sorry if you already read that last post:
I upgraded recently to the 2000 model having spent hundreds of hours on my 1000 model.

There was nothing wrong with it, but my charger wire was starting to fray, I needed another memory card (comes with 8gb), and I really wanted long battery life since I game portably 99% of the time with it.

Traded in for 2000 model. Immediately I noticed how much lighter it was, how much thinner it was, and I could hold it up in my hands a lot longer (without getting hand cramps or tired arms) than my previous one. The USB charging is fantastic! The speakers seem a lot louder (maybe my older model had defective speakers?). The battery lasts a long time.

As for the screen, it is different. As I noted in my last post, I can't say whether it's good or bad, better or worse. But different.

And it's a fantastic screen overall, old model or new model.

Objectively speaking, the Vita 2000 is better screen as it has the more accurate colors.

Subjectively, many people prefer AMOLED since colors pop more.

There are enough changes with the 2000 model that it is the one to get though.

But it also has worse blacks. I am adjusting to the 2000's LCD screen, but the OLED in the 1000 is still my preferred.

I think you are right, though. The 2000 sum of its parts is better than the 1000, but the screen is such a huge component to how we interact with the device. My last true test will be how the 2000's screen fares in the sun (which I can't test now, because it is winter where I am). I had taken my 1000 to an outdoor concert last summer and I couldn't see the screen in the sunlight. It was unusable. Knowing LCD technology, I don't think the 2000 will be susceptible to the same thing, but I do want to see with my own eyes.

The Japanese Vitas use "O" as select and "X" as back in the OS and the integrated apps (Friends, PS Store, Trophies, etc), but all of my games, downloaded and retail, seem to work as normal.

Honestly, though, I tend to use the touch screen for most things that are OS-related anyway, so it's not a huge deal-breaker for me.

Thanks. This is a concern for me because I'm so used to it the other way around. X as select.

Have there been any reports on people getting a coloured JPN system and swapping the shell on a western one? I think I'd be comfortable with something like this.

I see some more screen debating... here is my take for those on the edge, having just made the transition from 1000 > 2000.

So I had a launch OLED for over 2 years and probably played on it as much as anyone could in those 2+ years.

Monday I got my import 2000 to replace my broken 1000. It had been nearly 6 months since my 1000 broke, so it's not like I was coming from OLED to LCD the next day, or holding them next to each other. The OLED was NOT fresh in my mind.

First thing when turning on the 2000: Wow this really does NOT "pop" like the 1000 did. I was really concerned those first few minutes. BUT, after messing around with it for a few days, the colors do seem very accurate. Nothing seems over-saturated. I don't get that splotchy effect on black screens. And everything is very sharp, especially text.

The weight, battery, buttons, speakers, usb charging... everything is better with the 2000. I don't think about the screen anymore. So I guess I fall into line with most people: the screen is different. You'll get used to it. Everything else about the device is much improved. And I think most importantly, as a longtime 1000 owner, I would never go back. The 2000 is a no-brainer and if I hadn't broken my 1000, I would likely just sell it, as I would never use it over my 2000. So if you're on the fence, it's worth it.

I agree with this after 4 days with my import Lime Green/White PCH-2000. The only time I noticed the difference was when I booted both screens next to each other. When I'm just playing on the 2000 and my 1000 is out of sight, I'm perfectly happy with the LCD screen on the 2000. Even if you do feel like there's a drop-off in screen quality, the better battery, buttons, speakers, shape, and weight all more than make up for it. I can't believe how much more comfortable it is to hold the 2000.

It's really jarring when you can see them side-by-side.

I don't put a lot of weight into the "more accurate colors" statement that others have said about the LCD. It's not like video games are driven by a standard, such as the ISF pushes for video content. How do we even know video game developers are creating their content with calibrated displays themselves? Movies and television productions always get the ISFcc treatment by me, but video games are a completely different story and I normally just go by GAME mode on my HDTV and call it a day.

Looking to get back in the Vita game after about a year. Now, I just need to decide which one to get.

I have the chance to get a Sapphire Blue 1000 with an 8GB card for $120, but the Lime Green/White 2000 is making me have second thoughts...

id go with the Lime/Green. I use to have a 1000 but the 2000 feels so much better in every way.

Today I successfully applied the Illumishield screen protector to my Vita. I gotta say that successfully applying a screen protector with no dust or visible bubbles on the screen itself is a huge adrenaline surge (probably because I've been unsuccessful on so many devices). Only thing that happened was that I didn't line it up 100% straight so the bottom right corner (not located on the screen itself) is raised ever so slightly to create a little bubble coast looking thing . Now I don't know much about screen protector air bubble physics but there's no way that thing could spread right? I won't be waking up tomorrow morning to find that the air bubble coastline engulfed my entire screen? (Also sorry for blurry picture, my phone sucks.)

2000 owners, does anyone have a screen that isn't tinted a bit yellow? I just don't like this new screen, and when the brightness gets forced down to 90% (like on most games) I feel like my screen needs to just be 10% brighter to look right.

In fact that autobrightness shit to save battery life never bothered my much on the OLED but it's having a way bigger impact on my new one. :(

I actually haven't noticed a yellow tint. I will look at it when I get home tonight though.

I already own a Vita 1000 [PCH-1103] but recently bought a 2000 [PCH-2016] when it was on sale from amazon.de. Its a lovely system, but I have just discovered an annoying 'feature' not present on my 1000.

The PS Vita features AVLS:-
http://manuals.playstation.net/document/gb/psvita/settings/avls.html
This means you can only turn the volume up to 75% using the volume controls. However if you go into the settings under 'Sound & Display' there is a check box that allows you to turn off AVLS. The default selection is always 'on' (ticked)

On my 1000 you can tick/untick this box no problem, and your selection is remembered permanently.

On my 2000 if you untick the box the following popup message appears:
"[AVLS] will be turned off.
To prevent possible hearing damage, do not listen at high volume levels for long periods. After 20 hours of audio playback, [AVLS] will be automatically turned on."
Screenshot:-
This message does not appear on my 1000 model.

The problem is on my Vita 2000 model AVLS is re-enabled every time I power off (Regardless of the stated "After 20 hours of audio playback")

Searching on google seems to being up a few threads like this:-
http://community.eu.playstation.com/t5/PS-Vita-Support/AVLS-Problem/td-p/17817920
http://community.eu.playstation.com/t5/PS-Vita-General/Cant-keep-AVLS-off/td-p/19309604
No solution though.

Apparently, even some later productions runs of the 1000 model have this problem:-
http://community.us.playstation.com...matic-AVLS-please-sort-this-out/td-p/43129328

Does anyone else have this issue? Is it only a problem with German or European Vita's due to laws/regulations? Or does it affect all Vita 2000's? (Some forum users mentioned that their Vita's purchased in the UK and Australia have the same problem) Note that the Vita manual linked above says "Depending on the model, when a total of 20 hours of playback is reached when this setting is off, the setting is automatically turned on."

If you have the same issue, whats your Vita's region/model number? (Its printed below the rear touch pad) Thanks in advance for any info.

Anyone know of any silicone cases for the Vita 2000 that would still fit into the PDP trigger grips? Looking at a few and PDP makes one but I'm not sure if it'll fit into place or not.

VitaGAF, I present to you my Vita 2000 and my Vita 1000.

Guess which is which lol

So obviously I've stopped using my 2000 and gone back to my 1000 for now, feels like a veil of piss has been lifted from my eyes.

Not looking forward to wrestling with Amazon Germany returns section, but surely if I get another 2000 it won't be this bad.... will it?!
