INTERVIEWS / DEVELOPER DISCUSSION

IGN interviews Aonuma
Highlights from Developer Round Table
Kotaku's highlights from the roundtable, confirmation of orchestral soundtrack?
Iwata Asks (scroll down)

STORY DETAILS
Code:
[spoiler]Pretty much confirmed from the Nintendo Roundtable. Spoiler tagging allllll this shit, read at your own peril. Repeat: SPOILERS.
# Posted 6:41 PST Eiji Aonuma talking now.
# Posted 6:41 PST He is going to talk about the game’s story.
# Posted 6:43 PST He said the scene this morning showing Link diving off a cliff into a bank of clouds was meant to be “impactful” because it was an important event in the story.
# Posted 6:44 PST In this Zelda, Link is a little boy born into a land above the clouds called Skyloft.
# Posted 6:44 PST One day, he learns there is a land below the clouds ruled by evil forces.
# Posted 6:46 PST However, the revelation prompts a series of events which forces him to go to the land beneath the clouds.
# Posted 6:46 PST The reason he goes down is in the title–it’s the Skyward Sword.
# Posted 6:46 PST The sword possesses intelligence, and will assume the semi-human form in the teaser poster shown last year.
# Posted 6:46 PST It’s the “master sword.”[/spoiler]

So......we can't control our movement, is this an on-rails Zelda game?

Nevermind, I think I see Miyamoto using the analog stick.

Could you have put 15 seconds of effort into this thread?

Anyway: Wii M+
Cel-shaded visuals, not like Wind Waker (like a cel-shaded version of the OoT concept art)
Wiimote controls sword/items, nunchuck controls shield

Can I call em or can I call em?

Wind Waker fans lost the one thing they could latch on to. This is like the best day of my life.

i am happy it is cel-shaded though. it means they got that side right. Take one step forward two steps back though

Except for sensible, button-based swordfighting controls.

Finally, a Zelda where the controls are a true obstacle to playing the game. I can't wait to spend five minutes trying to swing the sword to kill one enemy.

Pressing a button to do stuff was always too easy; deep down, I always knew, "There has to be a harder way!"

Fuck man, Miyomoto is getting OLD.

it's also funny to watch him helplessly flail trying to get the items to work

i don't think miyamoto's playing it. It looks like someone else is playing for him while guiding through conversation.

or he's too faaaarrrr away from the sensor bar.

Nevertheless..... i love the new look of that art style. A mix of cel-shaded and realistic graphic combine into one.

It was a sad sight, but at the same time, I've never been more entertained by a demo. :lol Poor guys.

Cel shading is great to hear, Twilight Princess was hideous, Wind Waker is still stupidly gorgeous, especially all those HD shots people post from the emulators, it's crazy.

Motion stuff is a bit...eh, we'll see, I just hope they have more in store for the advancement of the game design in Zelda than that. I really don't want to do the exact same box shoving and hook shotting just with motion controls. Really shake it up!

This is what fans wanted, Zelda with Motion Plus. However, I expect the game to control much better when you are in front of your TV with the sensor bar correctly situated.

Those technical issues were embarrassing.

But there's no way in hell the game actually plays that poorly.

So I'm still extremely excited. :D

looks promising, but the motion controls for everything are such a joke. can you say clumsy and pointless? even before the technical difficulties it took him 8 tries to accomplish a simple action. tell me with a straight face that a regular controller wouldn't be far more fast, precise, and reliable. hate this gimmick.

Controller interference. Other than that, the controls sound pretty easy to use. No first party Nintendo title has ever had hard to use or awkward controls, so why would Skyward Sword be any different?

Did you have any problem with Wii sports resort M+ controls?

Graphical style is the perfect mix of TP and WW. Wasn't expecting that. Looks incredible, more than I was hoping for.

Controls don't look that bad, but I'll wait for impressions to roll in. I'm expecting them to be pretty good, though.

Looks kind of like the graphics style from Mario Galaxy. Too bad it couldn't be pure cel shaded like Wind Waker which is still one of the best looking games ever made. Fuck the haters.
