Sammy J & Randy in Ricketts Lane - ABC iview

Sammy J is a hopeless lawyer who six years into his legal career has yet to win a case. This is not helped by his tendency to wet himself in court, nor the relentless bullying of his sadistic boss Borkman. Randy hit rock bottom after the divorce from his wife, the host of a top-rating current affairs program, "Thumbs Down with Victoria Vincent". Apart from cheating on his wife, Randy's hobbies included gambling, drinking, and cheating on his wife. After Sammy J managed to lose him everything in the divorce case, he offered his spare room at Ricketts Lane to Randy for a fortnight but that was twelve months ago.

A sitcom. With songs. And puppetry. For adults.

Charting the role of women in society over 10,000 years, "The Ascent Of Woman" is the first ever documentary to explore the history of women from the birth of civilisation to the contemporary era.

Focusing on the themes of freedom, oppression, inclusion and exclusion, the series aims to study the status of women and women’s rights.

Boy Meets Girl - BBC2

Leo's had a bad day. He's been fired (again), is being given a hard time by his mum and, to cap it all, his blind date fails to show up. But then he bumps into Judy and finds himself deeply attracted to this surprising and beguiling woman. They bond over drinks and, unfazed by the fact that there's a bit of an age gap between them, arrange to meet the following evening. Leo's mother is unhappy that he's having dinner with an older woman. But Leo doesn't care what she thinks; he knows that he's just met someone very special.

Judy then informs Leo that she was born male. Except she puts it even more bluntly than that.

"Boy Meets Girl" is the UK's first transgender sitcom.

Hand of God - Amazon

After the attempted suicide of his only son, PJ, Judge Pernell Harris believes he can hear the voice of God, and the voice is telling him to find out who raped PJ's wife Jocelyn -- the reason PJ tried to end his life - and bring him to justice. Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy - Disney XD

The series focuses on the Guardians of the Galaxy featuring Star-Lord/Peter Quill, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Gamora, and Drax. What follows is a story of redemption and of the importance of friendship as the Guardians seek out the Cosmic Seed, which is capable of recreating the universe. Starring Martin Clunes as world-famous author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, this three-part adaptation of Julian Barnes’ acclaimed novel follows the separate but intersecting lives of two very different men: a half-Indian son of a vicar who is framed for a crime he may or may not have committed, and Doyle, who investigates the case.

Doctor Foster - BBC One

A trusted GP sees her charmed life explode when she suspects her husband of an affair. As she uncovers secrets that shock her to the core, how will Dr Gemma Foster react?

The Bastard Executioner - FX

"The Bastard Executioner" is a blood-soaked, medieval epic that tells the story of Wilkin Brattle, a 14th century warrior, whose life is forever changed when a divine messenger beseeches him to lay down his sword and lead the life of another man: a journeyman executioner. Rosewood - Fox

Heroes: Reborn - NBC

From Creator/Executive Producer Tim Kring, who imagined NBC's original critically acclaimed 2006 "Heroes" series, comes "Heroes Reborn," an epic 13-episode event series that chronicles the lives of ordinary people who discover they possess extraordinary abilities.

The Player - NBC

The series co-stars Wesley Snipes as the pit boss and Charity Wakefield as the dealer for a high-stakes game, where an organization of wealthy individuals gamble on the ability of former military operative turned security expert Philip Winchester to stop some of the biggest crimes imaginable from playing out. Can he take them down from the inside and get revenge for the death of his wife, or is it true what they say: The house always wins.

Okkupert (Occupied) - TV2

Set in the near future, Russia, on behalf of the EU, has initiated a "silk glove" invasion of Norway, which has stopped oil and gas production due to the climate crisis. The official explanation for the Russian occupation is that they are securing Europe's access to oil and gas before restoring autonomy to Norway when their goal is achieved.

"Occupied" explores what happens in an occupied country when life apparently goes on as normal on the surface. If everyone can continue their lives, keep their material possessions and still feel secure, will they rebel? Or will they fight?

Indian Summers - PBS

Set against the sweeping grandeur of the Himalayas and tea plantations of Northern India, the drama tells the rich and explosive story of the decline of the British Empire and the birth of modern India, from both sides of the experience. But at the heart of the story lie the implications and ramifications of the tangled web of passions, rivalries and clashes that define the lives of those brought together in this summer which will change everything.

Gigi Does It - IFC

David Krumholtz stars as Gigi, a 76-year old yenta who lost her beloved husband Harold, but gained a new lease on life thanks to the secret bank account he left her. Dr. Ken - ABC

Doctor turned actor/comedian Ken Jeong plays Dr. Ken, a brilliant physician with no bedside manner. He is always trying to be a good doctor, as well as a good husband and dad to his two kids. Luckily, his therapist wife Allison is just the right partner to keep things sane.

The Widower - PBS

This drama is the true story of Malcolm Webster, a nurse by profession and, on the surface, a perfect gentleman: well-spoken, personable and charming. He’s also a spendthrift and killer. He marries, and attempts to kill, a succession of women to cash in their life insurance policies.

Raised By Wolves - CBC

Loosely based on the Wolverhampton childhood of outspoken U.K. writer and social media darling, Caitlin Moran, "Raised By Wolves" follows six socially isolated, home-schooled siblings and their acerbic, highly capable mother Della Garry. The Garry siblings, include eldest Germaine, an eccentric, distressingly oversharing and love-struck teen; Aretha, an introverted, sarcastic George Orwell admirer who just wants to be left alone; Yoko, a dreamy, aspiring paleontologist; and "the babbies," Wyatt, Mariah and toddler Cher. They also share their small house with Della's feckless, acid-casualty dad, Grampy, who frequently seeks refugee from his ongoing bad romance with 'Shit Nan'.

Casual - Hulu

The original half-hour comedy follows a dysfunctional family with a bachelor brother and his newly divorced sister who together coach each other through the world of dating while living under the same roof again and raising a teenager.

The Principal - SBS One

Matt Bashir’s new appointment as Principal of Boxdale Boys High ruffles the feathers of the burnt-out staff, as his radical reforms are met with cynicism. He doesn’t fare much better with the students, who predict he won’t last a week.

Just as it seems like he’s making some progress a student is found dead on school grounds.

The murder and subsequent police investigation threaten Bashir’s fledgling reforms, his support from staff and even his resolve.

Bryan Cranston voices the character of Titanium Rex, who leads a seen-better-days group of superheroes, “The League of Freedom,” in their increasingly difficult struggle to remain relevant in today’s world. Also voiced by Seth Green, Keegan-Michael Key, Jillian Bell and Chris Pine.

The Last Kingdom - BBC America

Adapted from Bernard Cornwell’s best-selling series of books “The Saxon Stories,” by BAFTA nominated and RTS award-winning writer Stephen Butchard, "The Last Kingdom" combines real historical figures and events with fiction, re-telling the history of King Alfred the Great and his desire to unite the many separate kingdoms into what would become England.

It is a contemporary story of redemption, vengeance and self-discovery set against the birth of England.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend - The CW

A new musical comedy series following Rebecca Bunch, a single woman and her elusive pursuit of her longtime soul mate Josh, who dumped her while they were dating in high school in 2005. It's now 2015 and after being inspired by a TV commercial for a butter spread, she restarts her pursuit of Josh after she spots him in New York City. When he tells her that he is moving to West Covina, California ("Just two hours from the beach, four hours in traffic"), Rebecca decides to move there as well, hoping that it will give her a fresh start and hopefully bring her closer to the still-elusive Josh.

Beasts of No Nation - Netflix

Directed by Cary Fukunaga and based on the 2005 bestselling novel of the same name by Uzodinma Iweala, "Beasts of No Nation" follows a child soldier fighting in the civil war of an unnamed African country under the leadership of a ruthless warlord known only as Commandant, played by Golden Globe-winner Idris Elba.

Ash vs Evil Dead - Starz

“Ash vs Evil Dead” follows Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons –personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its “Evil” grip.

Angel from Hell - CBS

Allison, a dermatologist, is organized and perfect, but her life is derailed when she meets brash, outspoken Amy, who claims to be her guardian angel in this irresistible comedy about an unlikely friendship.

Master of None - Netflix

Aziz Ansari plays Dev, a 30-year-old actor in New York who has trouble deciding what he wants to eat, much less the pathway for the rest of life.

The comedy will touch on subjects as diverse as the plight of the elderly, the immigrant experience, and how to find the most delicious pasta for dinner.

Flesh and Bone - Starz

Shot entirely in NYC, "Flesh And Bone" is described as a dark, gritty, complex series that unflinchingly explores the city through the eyes of Claire, played by Black Swan‘s Sarah Hay, an emotionally wounded but transcendent ballerina navigating the dysfunction and glamour of the ballet world. Claire’s self-destructive tendencies amid her vaulting ambitions drive her in compelling, unforeseeable ways, especially when she is confronted with the machinations of the company’s mercurial Artistic Director, played by Ben Daniels and an unwelcome visitor from her past.

The miniseries was created by Breaking Bad writer Moira Walley-Beckett (Fly, Ozymandias).

The Spymasters - Showtime

This documentary features more than 100 hours of intimate and candid conversations with all 12 living directors of the Central Intelligence Agency and the agency’s top operatives, with unprecedented access to America’s spy network.

"The Spymasters" will include never-before-seen footage of directors talking about their failures and previously classified successes, and the terrorist attacks that each director lived through, according to Showtime. It also will feature key critics of the CIA who voice claims of ineffectiveness, overreaching authority and poor image.

The Wiz Live! - NBC

In "Chewing Gum", Michaela Coel plays Tracey Gordon, a religious Beyoncé-obsessed 22-year-old who is fast finding out that the more she learns about the world, the less she understands.

Cuffs - BBC One

Written by Julie Gearey (Prisoners’ Wives, Secret Diary Of A Call Girl), "Cuffs" is packed full of humour and humanity. A character-led drama as well as a police procedural, this is a show where the characters have to deal with everything the job throws at them and where work-based pressures are not left at the station door.

F is for Family - Netflix

"F is for Family", created by Bill Burr and EmmyⓇ award-winner Michael Price (The Simpsons), follows the Murphy family in the 1970's, a time when you could smack your kid, smoke inside and bring a gun to the airport. Burr will voice the role of Frank Murphy, the family’s extreme patriarch; Laura Dern will voice Frank’s wife Sue; and Justin Long voices the family’s oldest son, Kevin.

Jekyll & Hyde - ITV

Set in 1930’s London at a time of Hollywood glamour, aerodynamic cars and monster movies, the drama will pay homage to the Robert Louis Stevenson novel, and focus on the young, attractive, troubled hero, Robert Jekyll, the grandson of the original doctor.

At the heart of the drama is Robert Jekyll’s quest to discover his real identity, his true family history and the nature of his ‘curse’. Jekyll transforms into Hyde in moments of extreme anger, stress and when his or the lives of others are threatened. There doesn't seem to be a lot on my radar this season unfortunately. Quite a bit returning but a lot of them are mainstays at this point. And new shows are not making me interested nearly as much as they have in years past. Hopefully something big will pop up and command attention but I'm not holding my breath.

January/February definitely has the much better line up, though (It's Always Sunny, Archer, Better Call Saul, House of Cards). I miss when NBC had The Office, Parks and Rec and 30 Rock.
