What can we expect from the demo stations?

We're going to show [multi-crew] at Gamescom: You're going to start in a space station, you're in a room, you get out, the space station is huge – you'll see this gas giant outside, you'll go out to the landing pad, get into a cutlass with your friends. They'll all get into the Cutlass – which will all be its own zone running in the local grid – this is why we have the physics partitioned for each individual ship, so it can fly around and you can be moving around the ship irrelevant of where the ship's going.

I'm really excited by where we're at with multi-crew. Hopefully people will be impressed by what they see when we show them at Gamescom. It's a real system that has extensibility and we're going to show you getting into one ship, taking off, flying, EVAing into another ship, powering up... All the stuff you've seen in machinima videos and have thought 'if I could do that in a game, that would be awesome.

Some early demo impressions from Eurogamer:
Eurogamer talks Gamescom and the Star Citizen Demo. (Star Citizen is from the beginning to about 5min in)

Don't watch if you don't want any spoilers, but looks like CIG gave a good impression.

Looking forward to it. Other than the inevitable technical hiccups, their presentations always have a more personal, community feel to them.

This is it, the first glimpse at what will separate Star Citizen from every other space sim out there. This is so goddamn exciting!

The hype train has no brakes!!!

Oh boy! Another funding drive commences. Im sure we will see amazing things! Amazing things i tell you!

Yeah, they'll always keep going for more funding as part of their strategy, no surprises there.

From the Eurogamer comments, the demo sounds like it's actually impressive though. The presentation should have some interesting new stuff to see.

What ship are they flying on the large screen there? Is that a hornet with the new HUD set up? It looks god damn fantastic.

As mentioned, that's the Retaliator. For me it's another example how a screen based radar beats the projection type. So much easier to read at a glance. That's the first thing I noticed when I took the Merlin for a spin.

I'm getting hype. Hope we get a lot more concrete info on the social module, looking forward to that more than the FPS module.

Anyone else expecting to see a new commercial for the Retaliator during Gamescom? It's been quite a while since the last commercial, the ship is going back up for sale during this event, and clearly it will be playable/shown off as the photo above indicates. Plus iirc the Retaliator is the next ship on the list to receive a commercial.

The Hornet looks to be on the screen in the background of the photo (has the same frame as the Hornet but looks like the view is zoomed in a bit more?).

It's quite possible they'll do the 'Tali commercial since they seem to be focusing on that ship this time around. Also, it is the Hornet on that computer. If you look closely, you can see they're looking at the Retaliator (takes up about the entire upper right quadrant of the monitor).

You should've been there, man.

Daedardus, you have failed this city thread.

I failed myself. I will now commit sudoku.

I'm probably going next year to the event. But I first need my driver's license. The event is late and can't rely on my normal method of transport. And I heard the crowds aren't always the best at the events, I fear that I will feel out of place

Unless you're just not good with crowds in general, I don't see how you'd feel that out of place at an event where everybody is a SC enthusiast. I could see if you only had a casual interest in the game, but that's obviously not the case. Surely they can't be that crazy at the events.

'Tali, Connie. Deal with it. =P Just wait until people start naming their ships.

If abbreviations of names bother you guys, life must be quite annoying. It exists just about everywhere for things with long names.

Added my specially modified M50 as hype escort.
ui4llH4.png
I don't think that counts as a M50 anymore. Even ignoring the shape change, the scale change is huge. The M50 is 11m to the Idris' 240m length. Assuming that ship isn't flying way higher and closer to the camera than the Idris, the proportions would be closer to the M50 escorting a Starfarer.

German IT news site Golem released a short Gamescom video with a few seconds of new Star Citizen footage - surprisingly not from the multi crew demo, but new FPS and planetside stuff. Seems CIG brought more than one demo to Cologne.

Me too, although i'm probably going to miss the first 40 mins or so. :_:

Eh, I'll end up missing the whole thing as far as uninterrupted viewing goes. I'll attempt to keep up on it between work related tasks, but that's kind of a pain in the ass for live content. That and the whole no volume aspect... I'll have to settle for watching a recap later on in the evening. Still looking forward to it though.

Lol, an announcement that they'll be announcing something in a couple months. Too far away for me to get hyped about that.
