David Wise, god of game soundtracks, returns to the world of men (new samples inside)

^^^ Interesting. :) Also, I've updated the names of various tracks in the OP. 6-2 is called Chilly Coast.

Looks like Piplup has the level names.
"Decisive Battle! Lord Frederick" sounds very Japanese, though...is he sure that's the English name? I can fanfic out something more in line with the rest of the game in like five seconds. Ummmm.....Snowbound Showdown? :3

edit - world 5 level names are also sorely lacking in rhyming/alliteration.

Oh wait a sec, it says the name of the final boss in the description --
Lord Frederick
. :)

So basically, he can't be beaten?

In Chilly Coast (6-2), part of the melody sounds familiar. I haven't cross-referenced it yet, but is it lifting phrases from Cannon Canyon?

EDIT: Cool Athletic (5-6 -- if that's indeed the level name) just came up in my iTunes, and man this song is chill.

Loving this soundtrack. Sounds different than what I'm used to from him, I've been a fan of David Wise's music before I knew who he was. Growing up with games like Wizards and Warriors and just listening to the music, Ironsword is one of my favorite NES soundtracks.
Can't wait to play this.

Thank you very much.

To be honest I don't like both versions from Tropical Freeze that much.
My favourite is still from Brawl.
I have to praise Wise for the composition, even if he did not make my favourite arrangement.

Game rips. The game has a music test. You can even turn down (or turn off) sound effects if you want to listen while you play. :)

That kind of feature shall be in more games.

Just recording sound from a game isn't a game rip though.

6-2 is straight-up Hans Zimmer. It's actually a 'better' rendition of his work than Zimmer's own ghost writers. That's pretty nuts.
Ghost writers?

I didn't listen to any of these tracks before playing the game, so now that I'm reaching World 3 I have to say that this man is still a genius. Even if normally I am into moody and nocturne tracks, he did his best in those jazzy and happy tracks (for now) and on top of that, every song is deeper than ever, this helped him mixing many styles. So good.

His work on Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts is phenomenal too, I'll try to post a few links when I can. "cruising showdown town" in collaboration with Robin Beanland is one of the greatest tracks I've heard from him. It's on Spotify

Wasn't Grant Kirkhope on this one? Sounds really Banjo or DK64-like to me. :)

The final boss theme is good, but I think it's the weakest of the boss themes in the game to be honest. 5 and 1 blow it out of the water.

the whole soundtrack is incredible, is piplupwater done uploading the tracks?

IMHO these are all top tier:
(remixes of old songs not included)

- Homecoming Hijinx
- Amiss Abyss
- Scorch 'n Torch
- Windmill Hills
- Chilly Coast
- Grassland Groove

They are all so awesome yet different at the same time, like they belong to totally different games. You have intense tracks, cheerful songs and the most beautiful and relaxing themes combined in just one soundtrack. Amazing

I'm very happy that Wise's return to DKC is triumphant. This guy's music is what started my affinity for video game soundtracks. It's a shame the game is on Wii U tbh...unless there's a turnaround not only does it mean few people will experience it, but a lot of us DKC/Wise lovers will probably never play it. Oh well, if the soundtrack is released I will buy it.

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about Rayman Legends Wii U.
Ghost writers?
Ghostwriters are individuals who write content under the name of another individual. Hans Zimmer owns a company that oversees dozens of individual composers, but a lot of the work that goes out under his company is given credit directly to Zimmer.

Zimmer usually comes up with main concepts and writes a lot of original music, but his giant team adapts it and fills in blanks where needed.

I'm saying that David Wise does a better imitation of Zimmer than his ghostwriters, which is to jokingly say that Wise has created a very "Zimmer-esque" song that captures a lot of the same feeling his ghostwriters strive for.

A little off-topic, but Nintendo should get David Wise and Mahito Yokota together to compose for the next Zelda title, that would be amazing.

Really liking this soundtrack, I hope Nintendo puts it out for sale.

And Koji Kondo of course too! The ultimate three team!

infinitelooper.com + this thread = bliss

I'm actually stuck in amiss abyss, which is fine by me because I don't want to spoil the other tracks.

Frosty Forest is seriously gorgeous. Do we have any footage of what that stage actually looks like yet?

Wing Ding is the best track hands down, no contest, check please. I love this song so much it isn't even funny. David Wise has to be some sort of musical magician demi God, that or he's just that damn good!!

The "god fobids I touch a Wii U with a ten foot pole even if it has a game I want" posts are getting tiring.

I took it as more of a "it's a shame the Wii U is selling so poorly, that means less people will get to experience this," and less of a "Wii U is shit system hope it dies LOL" type post.

This kind of fanboyism is embarrasing, but whatever, sorry for the derail, keep basking in the glorious Tropical Freeze soundtrack.

Unrelated to DKCTF, but still relevant to Wise. So a new trailer dropped for Tengami, which is also having its score done by David Wise. Now is it just me, or does that music sound suspiciously like Forest Interlude?

Looks and sounds beautiful! (The lighthouse scene was especially breathtaking) But what exactly is the gameplay in Tengami? Slowly walking around doesn't exactly look fun, even if the pop-up storybook style makes for interesting scene transitions.

Yeah, I noticed a review for it on Eurogamer and the impressions were not great, not my sort of game at all by the looks of things.
Alternatively you could view the game as a vehicle of which to deliver more Dave Wise music with an oriental twist, funny to think this was announced long before TF and was viewed as the return of Wise by myself only for TF to get announced and then released before it in the end.

In other news I reached Amiss Abyss in TF finally allowing me to hear the music within and there was much rejoicing.

Oh, there's a number of his tracks for Dinosaur Planet beta (N64) on youtube! Awesome to hear some SFA numbers in their early forms! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyvKxPfnvtU&list=PLqs8XdEaUDyB262DMrLeLVdetMFDYrNnk
Neat, I think it was in that recent Wise podcast thread I mentioned that I was curious to hear the N64 themes for DP before it got Starfox'd and here it is.

I'm honestly not sure. I just happened to see it in another thread and thought the music was worth mentioning. I'll have to look more into it.

I haven't posted in months. This game's music has awakened me from my slumber. What an acoustic treat. So many great songs. I've always been of fan of Wise, great to hear him back especially on donkey Kong.

Definitely makes me want a Wii U more.

I'm pretty sure it's a puzzle game of some sort.
