Characters that constantly trip for no reason at all usually piss me off. Also, the damn game and anime hella tries to pair her up with Lloyd. Sheena is way superior!!!!!!

I don't remember an instance of tripping besides early in the game. But I will agree that Sheena is superior.

This is how I feel too. There are big duds in each cast, but I dislike the Abyss duds much more.

Malik, Sophie & Pascal are more than enough to make up for the damp dishcloth known as Asbel.

I kinda felt that the way the characters people hated in Graces acted was justified.

They really need to make Seles playable in this release. There's even an in-game event that teases that possibility, and she already has her own moveset.

Also allow the ToS1 cast to be switched to the Player 1 slot and be able to directly play as monsters like in Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X in ToS2.

And we still don't get the Tales of Destiny Remake :(

If they're going to milk the series more with HD ports, I'm hoping for ToD Remake + ToD2. <_<

The Regal and Lloyd one (Ryuuko Metsugajin) is new to people who only played the GC version. It's a new Unison Attack for the PS2 version.

Notable changes for the PS2 version:
- Crappy framerate (60->30FPS), textures, and load times compared to GC ver. Hopefully all fixed in HD port.
- Camera doesn't suck as bad with multiplayer
- Unison Bar flashes brighter than the GC version when filled, and fills much faster.
- Sheena gets cut-ins for her summons
- New anime movies/a few new cutscenes and small side events
- New costumes for the cast
- New Unison Attacks, artes (for both party and bosses), mystic artes
- Fixed bugs like the T/S bug (the one that allowed you to learn both variations at the same time), infinite combo with spell cast->spell cancel has been removed, Eternal Sword glitch, etc.
- An extra boss battle added to the original EX dungeon and 5 more floors added
- Casino actually works in Altamira now and there's Blackjack and Slots
- Dragon from Earth Temple gives a lot less money

Kayos should probably put this in the OP. It seems pretty helpful. :)

Boooo at those changes! :(
They should have changed the over limit requirements (not only taking damage, but also dealing it). At least it will be easier to measure tension points this time.
And I was really hoping for an improved battle system (at least DotNW got free run right and it's way faster).

How can you guys hate Colette just look how innocent she is:

Graces party could get annoying, but that was mostly because of the story and their average ages, I felt. They were a bunch of immature brats for the most part, but managed to come together in the end. The pacing of the dub didn't help either; especially in the skits, it felt like they were chained to a timing that didn't really work for an english script.

Abyss party were absolute assholes for the first Act. I almost dropped the game completely because of that.

Sweetness! Was worried a release like this may have ended up being a bone toss for the Wii U or something, but glad to see it's on PS3 instead.

Day one.

Can't recall if they messed with how often you get Overlimit, but they did change your character portrait to glow much more like the Unison Attack bar to make it obvious when you can go into it. I also remember getting into Overlimit more often while playing the PS2 version but that could just be me playing on a harder difficulty and playing better than when I first played ToS on the Gamecube.

DotNW got free run down pretty well, but they fucked up how attack collision works compared to Abyss (which the battle system was based off of). Everything's so damn floaty and nothing feels like it has weight. The sound effects being mediocre doesn't help it either.

Graces' story made the party members stupid in order to carry its shitty plot. Without its influence they range from tolerable to actually great.

Well, ToS still looks pretty nice at least. I don't understand for the life of me why they stopped using cel-shading-like graphics in every following Tales game except Vesperia. It looks so much better...

ToS2 on the other hand was already ugly on Wii and it doesn't have the saving grace of a nice art style. I think even if I end up buying the HD collection I won't be playing ToS2 at all.

I'm surprised about just how quickly the localization was announced. It's nice to know Namco's including the PS2 content, but hopefully it'll at least have the Gamecube version's visuals. As for the localization, my two main hopes are that they'll keep the Japanese opening and add voice acting to the skits if they have to end up redubbing the game.

I can't say much for Dawn of the New World since I never played it, except this should be a nice opportunity to remedy that.

(This is also my first post here so hello gaf)

I love how just a week or so ago Baba was stating that he had no plans, or hadn't heard of a ToS HD collection.

Never change Japanese developers.

Welcome to Neogaf, at least you're getting welcomed. I joined yesterday and didn't get welcomed because I posted it in the title instead of posting it in the message

Yes, the manual switching was really annoying.

And every Symphonia 1 cast member has special dialogue with the last boss of S2, so obviously it was planned to be possible at one point. (They even dubbed it in English.)

The characters in Graces just played it safe and were dull.

I feel like people would hate them less if they knew how much more annoying the other Team Destiny games' casts + stories were. :lol I definitely dislike Kyle and Veigue's Claire obsession much more than the Graces' cast.

Having recently gone through Rebirth with a translation guide, I'm inclined to agree.

Weird, than why do some claim it to be the best Tales, personally I did not play Tales of Destiny so I don't know anything about it

Team Destiny games, not Tales of Destiny.
Tales of Destiny remake is one of the best in the series, and the story and characters, while not being the best in all of RPGs, are definitely serviceable even if cliche.

Or Tales of Destiny 2, or ToV PS3(IM NOT BITTER REALLY), or Xillia 2 sometime before I die of old age.

Or god forbid, my dream come true, a Tales of Phantasia remake that looks like Tales of Vesperia.

No, just Symphonia...

I guess it could have been worse, it could have been Abyss or... that other one, the terrible ps2 one.

Symphonia was my first Tales game, so I had no other game to compare the characters with. By and large I thought they were okay. I mean apart from Sheena and Regal, I didn't think they were that good, but they weren't really that annoying either, especially compared to quite a few games I've played since.

I'm a bit mixed in that I think the game will feel a bit dated now, but I'll still enjoy it. One place where Symphonia does shine for me is that the soundtrack stands out above other Tales games

Legendia could really use a remake honestly. It has a great story and cast (Shirley aside), and the soundtrack is phenomenal. It's just pretty bad from a gameplay standpoint.
I still don't understand why Team Soul Calibur was put to make this game and not do Tales of VS.

It's much less magical once you realize it's 90% Phantasia remixes that sound worse than the SFC Phantasia soundtrack, at least in my opinion. Still one of the better soundtracks in the series for sure. EDIT: Plus it has Fatalize and Beat the Angel. :D

This is incredible news. I only stopped playing ToS years ago when my Gamecube memory card corrupted, and lost my saves. I was on my 4th run through!

I cant wait to play this again, with the new stuff from the PS2 version. I didnt mind DotNW, was nowhere the quality of ToS, though.
Psyyyyched!

my tier one of fav characters:

1. Yuri
2. lloyd
3. Jade
4. Genis
5. Guy

and my least liked characters:

1. Emil
2. Asbel
3. Karol
4. Norma
5. Sophie

Also, I hope there is an alternate method for the
Kratos/Zelos
thing. I hate that by making the alternate choice, it locks you out of a lot of stuff.
ie. That by choosing Kratos, he has to be your number one affection partner so you can't get a bunch of costumes and events with other characters.

Really great news, but I already own both and since I'm not really fond of either of the games (even prefer DotNW over the original ToS), I'll skip this.

Would have prefered any of those unlocalized titles, but this is probably a better choice since it'll sell better.

Eh. In the PS2 version
Kratos is no longer the default 4th alternate choice, he has to be in your top 3 now.
So I doubt they'll the gameplay around again to make it easier.

Also for GC players:

Unison Attack exhibition. 2:35 for the PS2 exclusive ones. I forgot Prism Stars has no slowdown in the PS2 version. :p

*sigh* I just want Kratos in my party instead of Zelos, but I want Regal to be my main affection partner and get his special costume/ending.

Tales of Destiny is definitely my favorite Tales and my first one too. Stahn is my favorite character. Never played Symphonia. Excited to try it out.

Kratos >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Zelos

But Zelos gets Divine Judgement AND Shining Bind.

EDIT: I wish Namco would have included Phantasia X and Narikiri Dungeon X in this and named it "The Aselia Collection". That would have been expecting too much out of Scamco though.
