Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread

That's my kind of content. Not looking forward to all the bitching that's gonna happen though. "I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THAT KIND OF CONTENT, NERF IT FOR EVERYONE."

I don't think people would necessarily complain about a nerf in difficulty, but most people can't make that type of time commitment in one sitting. If the raid has stages where you can stop for breaks and regroup, fine, but if it is nonstop for the whole time, it will just become a hardcore sideshow with plenty of folks on the sidelines wishing they had the ability to try it.

Due to life outside of games, I only get to play an average of 7 to 10 hours a week. Maybe I'm not a "core" gamer, but I'm sure as hell not casual and play tons of genres and difficult games. What little we know of this raid is enough to drive me crazy with envy to those who can play it. I won't be begging for a nerf, but at least hope for some flexibility in the options to take it on.

Yeah there is NO way it's around 12-16 hours without a break/checkpoint/save... right?

Really depends on what Bungie wants to accomplish in terms of difficulty. The branches or wings approach is great if every boss is equal in difficulty. Then it might actually encourage splitting attempts across multiple days. Linear can work however, simply by having a later boss or two have a more simple/forgiving encounter.. giving players a reprieve from demanding fights.

In either case, I'm super interested in how they're going to distribute loot. If it's a per boss drop system.. it helps players advance further into the Raid but comes with the sideeffect of matchmade people dropping group mid run when they've gotten something they like or even just farming early encounters rather than trying to complete the whole thing.
Yeah, we'll have to see what they end up doing. Regarding the bolded, this could be solved by adding Cryptarchs or w/e for engrams at various points in the raid, and incentive sticking around by having a PvE raid currency with a multiplicative bonus that stacks for each boss you've killed in one session. e.g Kill one boss, get 5 tokens and one stack of the buff. Next boss you get 6 tokens and another stack. Next one you get 7 tokens and another stack, and so on. Idk, there are a lot of potential solutions.
Indeed. "IT TAKES LONGER THAN THIRTY MINUTES? FUCK THIS BUNGIE, YOU GUYS ARE TERRIBLE."
"$60 FOR THE DISC AND $50 A YEAR FOR PS+/XBL AND BUNGIE WONT LET ME SEE THE END OF THE GAME WITHOUT TAKING DAYS OFF FROM WORK AND NEGLECTING MY FAMILY? FUCK THIS GAME." Hyperbole for the most part, but I've seen some real headscratchers.

I think it will be like WoW, checkpoints after every boss/event and a week to finish the entire raid before reset.

At least that would be the best way to do this i think.

Yeah that would be ideal. If it's one sitting there is no way I'll ever get the chance. If it's over a week or two I might just have a chance to do it. Kids and work make time short.

Oh yeah, I COULD make that kind of time commitment (while university isn't in session any way), but even I wouldn't want to do that in one sitting. Nor could I expect 5 other people to do it with me at the same time.

If there's no way to take breaks during the raid and it is in fact 10+ hours, then I'll join in on the complaints. However, I don't think Bungie is dumb enough to implement content that long without doing it similar to WoW's long raids, so I'm not worried about it.

I will remain cautiously optimistic about it then. I never played WoW or seen those raids, but if there is a checkpoint system, that would be more than acceptable.

Of course not. The 16 hour quote just means they played for 16 hours and never beat it. Usually when a new Raid comes out for an MMO, the hard core Raiding clans get right to it and start working on the strategy needed to beat it. Depending on the game, the raid, etc, it can take awhile to beat the thing. Devs always like to brag about how long it takes for the first group to beat their raid. Once it's beaten multiple times, that hard core raiding clan will be able to beat it in a few hours. It's all about figuring out the strategy for it and then once you know that, perfecting the execution of that strategy. The hard and fun part is dealing with the variables of being in a group and having to rely on everyone in the group keeping up and doing their part.

With Raids only being 6 man groups in this game, it seems like more and more each and every person will have a very high amount of responsibility on them. In some MMO's where it's 24 or more people going at it, you can have some tag alongs as long as the core group knows their stuff, but with 6, there doesn't seem like there will be a lot of room for error.

A lot of raids use 'locks' now since people can get drained playing them. You play for hours trying to beat one of the bosses and when you finally do, you just can't play any longer or maybe you can but others in your group can't. So at least then once you beat that boss, you 'unlocked' the lock and then the next day or whenever you can get your group back together you can load it back up and continue on without having to go through that first boss again.

Seems pretty standard now that locks last a week. So as long as you keep making slow and steady progress, you have a week to try and beat the thing without having to start over each time.

Let's talk about the interface/HUD ingame. Bungie need to allow players to deactivate the HUD ingame. Like Ubisoft did with Far Cry 3.

DestinyGAF assemble for beating the Raid first !

But I need to know when my abilities are available and how much ammo I have!
Though I'm not expecting it, in future Destiny titles Bungie could add gameplay modifiers, like skulls in the Halo games. One of the skulls in Halo 3, the Blind Skull, made your HUD disappeared.

But that'd be putting teams at a disadvantage, especially in a team-based activity where you have you use your radar.

I'm talking about an optional feature. Having choice is always better and they can build several options to deactivate the HUD partially.

But I need to know when my abilities are available and how much ammo I have!

And i want my ingame immersion pure and intact !

On a serious note, like i said, i'm not talking about "Everyone must play without HUD !". But if people (like me) do not want this kind of information displayed on their screen (like most of the Far Cry 3 playerbase for example), let them be.

I would be surprised if they take that sort of approach though. It's really up in the air at this point, because they could do a node+branches design for the raid so that you don't take much time to get to any single encounter, allowing you to jump in and out and take the bosses out in whatever order you wish. In that sort of design, you could have maybe 3 of 7 possible encounters defeated, and you can look for people to go take down any of the 4 remaining.
This is basically how I hope it's structured.

That's what I mean. If you're in a strike and one player has decided to remove their HUD, the entire team is inherently at a disadvantage.

Eh, even with the HUD you run into people who don't read their radar at all or the others who are AFK, and that's more of a problem than somebody who is forced to be more weary of his surroundings.

Don't really see the point other than for screenshots, which would be nice in The Tower (and I could agree that some parts of the HUD are slightly overbearing in Crucible), but an option wouldn't hurt.

At least the PS4 controller's lightbar relays some of the HUD information.

If you are overly dependent on the HUD, yes, there will be some minimal disadvantage. But this is not the case of all the players and those who prefer/choose to not displaying the HUD do not rely very much on it anyway (even when it's here i mean).

The Devil's Lair was a piece of cake most of the time i beat it (without paying attention to the HUD).

It's just a different way of playing it.

Anyone else looking forward to what will be in a Limited or Collector's Edition? Actually, they haven't announced one yet have they?

I'd really like them to hurry up with that announcement if there will be one. There's a high chance I'll buy it no matter what as long as the packaging is beautiful to look at.

Don't make me turn this thread around!

BUT ARE WE THERE YET? How 'bout now? Now?

This would be a great way to add difficulty beyond just hp/damage modifiers and add special rewards or bounty's for completion.

Anyone know if there is any type of "Prestige" system planned? Those types of systems are hugely popular and keep players engaged even if it is purely cosmetic or a status symbol.

A lot of Exotic class specific armor cost Motes of Light, which are obtained by "leveling" past the max level.

The only reason I ask is because Blizzard thought Diablo 3 was taken care of with high end gear etc, but it doesn't go far enough in the long run. Diablo 2 had level 99 which was a near impossible attainable goal as a defacto status or leaderboard which worked well enough. After much complaints and discussion of Diablo 3 flatlining at level 60, they added Paragon levels which gave the desired outlet of continual infinite progress.

I know Destiny isn't quite the same type of game, but just having high end exotic gear may not be enough of a long term incentive.

I was watching a dev from Bungie streaming the game and I asked about the HUD. He confirmed that there was no tinkering with the HUD but that in the video settings you could make the screen display larger and that it would actually hide the HUD off the screen. It would essetially be like playing with no HUD at a lower resolution.

Bungie, i know you're reading GAF, so if you want to make a no HUD alternative, do it properly please.

Ubisoft did it and you know damn well that you're nicer (and better ?) than they are (right ? right ?...).

Sincerely yours. Korben.

ps : Thanks for the information LookAtMeGo.

So it seems like the Destiny clan we used for the Alpha was disbanded,

I'll be needing to join the new DestinyGAF clan.. for PS4.

Bungie ID: Hiya tiger
PSN ID: Biggz124

Edit: Crossposting it now.

What you need to do is make sure you've joined plain ol' DestinyGAF, and once you're admitted and the game gets up and running there will be subclans for Platform/Region etc.

DestinyGAFPS4 is now defunct, and their members are being folded into DestinyGAF.

I never played Destiny, nor really looked into it much, lately I've been playing Defiance PC since it was F2P and I'm really enjoying it. It reminds me of Resistance 2 Co-op, which I was hooked on though it only had a few missions which you played over and over. Playing Defiance made me think of Destiny and now I'm interested in it since it never clicked that it could also scratch my Resistance 2 co op itch.

Guess I need to finally get PS+ when this game is out.

You should get it now, and enjoy all the Instant Game Collection stuff that comes out every month up until the launch of Destiny :)

I've got enough + on my account to last until launch, but I feel left behind when it comes to these "free games" that are often equated with the service. Playstation people have to show me the light because nothing I've seen for the Playstation since the PS2 days has interested me. Unless I can play Journey on the PS4, I'm probably only going to use it for Destiny.

Not sure if answered, but did anyone try the alpha via remote play? Getting a Vita very soon and the thought of playing Diablo 3 and Destiny on my bed is making me all giddy.

GAF, please tell me it's good.

Rough work in progress of the Traveler. :l Got to this point and realized I needed to adjust my color palette a lot, so I figured I'd post what I had until I reworked it. Using my current Destiny addiction to practice some art skills.

Edit: Ugh, that stray pixel.
