Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread

I didn't play the alpha. What class would you recommend for a shooter noob?

I think Warlock is a good entry to the game. Powerful grenade and very a satisfying AoE Super.

Hunter has a powerful Super but it requires aiming skills.

Titan has some really good abilities, but they require you to play smart and be up close with the enemy.

But Warlock has the weakest armour, right?

I see you wanted to unleash the Destiny's troll force of this thread.

On a serious note, there is no "noob class" in Destiny, just play with the one which fits you best.
It's one of the purpose of the beta (for those who didn't play the alpha), discovering and choosing your class.

Titan are for noobs.

Working 9am-5pm on the 26th and SO's birthday is that night. What do, NeoGaf??

Quit your job and dump her. It's the only thing that makes sense.
Log on before you go to work and rubber band your left stick to the side and run into a wall so you don't disconnect from being idle too long.

How I wish that beta thread was up :).

I don't know about Titan being abused. In the alpha I saw a good use of all classes. The class I came across the least is prolly warlock. I've tried playing warlock but couldn't get used to his jump. Just felt weird and out of place.

I'm a big Titan fan. In Halo, CoD and BF I'm the one lurking around small corners with shotguns and prepared to take it for the team. So Titan truly is the playstyle that suits me. Those handguns also work miracles from close range. I just compensate my lack op agility in bravery :).

LOL yeah, the Warlock glide just feels too floaty and also i dunno not being able to really see how much higher I need to be to get upto the next ledge annoys me somewhat.

I hated titans close range, I would always use my double jump to get some space between then punish them with a throwing knife and some good old AR bullets to the face!

LOL Bravery or Stupidity ;) AYEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Yeah maybe Titan is for me. They seem to have better survivability. And I really am a noob. I play FPS's games maybe once a year.

Buddy of mine played the Pre-Alpha which had more content than the Alpha. Long story short, Titan's "advanced" skill upgrades you get in the later game can carry a team through tough encounters, whereas the Hunter's later game skill upgrades are more "selfish high damage, single target." Now, that was the Pre-Alpha so things could be drastically different now so we'll just have to wait and see. He didn't mention Warlock though, so it could be a mixture of both. I'm not bashing on Hunter though, because every Fireteam needs at least one Hunter. All i'm saying is that a Fireteam of Titan's will wreck shit towards end game. Especially with the Titan's Ward of Dawn.

Well, I enjoyed my time playing as a Titan and thought the class has tons of potential, but not sure how a pre-alpha version is a indicator for the usefullness of the class in the endgame, heh.

Let's just hope it's balanced so good that we don't need to ask the question which one is the best for the final parts of the game.

What exactly is the difference between the Warlock and Titan jump ability? Titans can get higher but Warlocks stay in the air for a longer period of time?

So like an MMO then? And like an MMO, if the content is properly balanced relatively low DPS will encounter its own set of problems.

Sounds like the classic THT:

Titan - Tank
Hunter - DD
Warlock - Healer (Radiance is a AoE heal right?)

Titan
LIFT (Jetpack)
"Jump and then press X again while in the air to activate Lift.
Increased Height - Upgrades Lift to travel to greater heights.
Increased Control - Upgrades Lift for better directional control while in the air.
Catapult - Upgrades Lift to provide a strong initial burst of momentum."

Warlock
GLIDE
Jump and then press X again while in the air to activate Glide.
Focused Control - Upgrades Glide for better directional control while in the air.
Focused Burst - Upgrades Glide to provide an initial boost of speed.
Blink - A short distance teleport which replaces Glide.

Hunter:
DOUBLE JUMP
Jump a second time after leaving the ground.
Better Control - Upgrades Double Jump for better directional control while in the air.
Triple Jump - Upgrades Double Jump with a third jump.
Higher Jump - Upgrades Double Jump for even greater height.

Hunter seems really damage focused as class, whereas Titans and Warlocks have more to offer in support (while still kicking ass)

I really want to try out the Titan's shield in the Beta and have a glimpse at what upgrades are available for it. I forsee Titans with the shield being pretty much a requirement for strike teams in a Raid.

It'll be interesting to see what the Warlock's Radiance can do as well. I think it could provide a buff in a variety of ways depending on what you pick from the upgrades.

EDIT

Can't wait to try Catapult as a Titan, sounds like fun. In the alpha I was using Increased Height and kept damaging myself by jumping too high and hitting the ground with a bump.

Don't choose Titan because he had better survivability. I think that's the only reason why you shouldn't pick this class. Don't forget you have to be up and close and (to) personal with Titan to really take advantage of this class. I played Titan most of my PvP Alpha matches but I died just as quick when playing Hunter of Warlock. That's because they all have a different kind of playstyle. Sure you can play a Sniping Titan but then you are not using the Titan skills to the max. Titans are all about getting the best of close range. That means you're getting more shots in the face than your teammates shooting from a distance.

Try to get in a team with all classes. Get two Titans. One goes for the obvious way attacking from close/mid range. The rest of the team is in it for the mid/far game while the other Titan goes around and jumps in the middle of chaos :).

For some good play every class is needed but don't mistake the Titan (Tank) class for being easy for just having more armor. Go for Stupi.... Bravery!!!!

I like the Hunter's style and description but I think the golden gun and the throwing knife make this class too dependent on aiming, so I'm considering switching to the Titan class.

Are these upgrades cumulative, or do you have to choose one of them?

I like the idea of the Warlock blink but not at the expense of glide as that seems rather pointless. The ability to gain extra height is a must in this game IMO. Unless the blink ability can be used vertically (a-la Dishonored). In which case that will be so, so sweet in PVP.

Hunter 4 lyfe.

I just realised I'm in japan when this comes out ;_; So conflicted right now.

I believe that it's a case of choosing which one you want out of the three, from what I have read anyway.

Judging by the Video's even though it's not as far as say glide, it is a considerable way and you can control movement of it to a degree.

Nah, I think it's just the last two. The first is a boost to the default ability, then you choose between the boosted default ability or the new ability. It's an Either/Or scenario.

ya this is what i recall. you'll get the first upgrade and then decide between 2 or 3. triple jump appears to be replaced by a higher double jump

Cannot wait to try it in the crucible. If you can master blinking behind opponents the a quick shotgun or hadouken to the back it'll be game over for hunters and titans.

Interesting. I wonder if double jump will give greater overall height, while triple jump will allow for better control.

Yeah sorry I do think you're right with this, just re-read the wiki.

My bad!
