Me too, maybe people were burned out by the ad blitz. The pushed that shit hard, I thought was going to come in and killed Idol and defile it's corpse.Zoe said:I'm pleasantly surprised that X Factor isn't hitting it out of the park.
Completely different time slots, you can't compare those.RBH said:his may be a dumb question, but is there any sort of correlation between the 18-49 rating and the number of viewers or the share? I'm just curious because I noticed how Community and Prime Suspect are separated by 0.1 in the 18-49 rating, yet Prime Suspect had two million more viewers.

It means that Community had a higher percentage of viewers 18-49 watching out of its total viewers than Prime Suspect. And yeah, different timeslots.RBH said:This may be a dumb question, but is there any sort of correlation between the 18-49 rating and the number of viewers or the share? Wow, very much appreciated Stump.Stumpokapow said:Number of viewers = total number of viewers of any age.
18-49 rating = Number of Nielsen points worth of 18-49 year olds who watched the show. A Nielsen point is 1 percent of the country's total TV households (currently 1.15 million, but it changes)
Share = Percentage of all televisions watching tv that time slot that were watching this program in specific.
So for example if 50% of all TV households were watching TV, a 10 share would imply that 5% of all TV households were watching that particular program. If 80% of all TV households were watching TV, 10 share implies 8% of all.
Why 18-49? Advertising sales rates are based on 18-49 viewers. The entire purpose of Nielsen ratings and the entire predictive value that it has upon cancellation decisions is for advertising sales purposes. Non 18-49 numbers are only good for PR bragging (A gazillion people watched out shitty show!) rather than actual revenue.
I don't really follow many TV shows in general nowadays, but I managed to catch Prime Suspect last night and thought it was great. I just hope that its numbers improve over the next few weeks.Granger Danger said:Prime Suspect probably skews a lot older, the elderly just love their cop stories.
Yes considering it went up against TBBT and X Factor. Should do a lot better next week with no TBBT.NotTheGuyYouKill said:For Parks and Community, are these ratings decent?

Ah, good point.Tamanon said:Probably not as that's not ad revenue they can look at, the whole point of ratings.
Iiinteresting!ivysaur12 said:Eh, kind of. They look at them along with Nielsen + DVR + legitimate streaming numbers to gauge the level of piracy on certain shows. But the more popular a show is, the more likely it is to be pirated. Fox might be looking at them now because they aren't putting their shows on Hulu until after a delayed period of time. Though while piracy might be up, they might also argue that they've had some of their best scripted launches ever for the fall, so who knows.
If a show is big, it's big everywhere = Live, DVR, legit streaming, and piracy. Very rarely (if ever) is a show much bigger in online viewing than in live numbers.
And in terms of online viewing, right now they're making "digital nickels." There's definitely some ad revenue to be made from online viewing, but it's nothing compared to live viewing. One day, maybe. But advertisers are scared of online viewing.
Expect more product placement in the future.

goldenticket said:like that other poster said prob not but they do check on hulu views. the scrubs creator guy said so when he was trying to save scrubs. im guessing a strong showing on hulu wouldnt save a show. but it could prove there was an audience out there for something and maybe help convince a network to leave it on the air longer or try a different way to market it.

ABC dropped out of the Saturday morning block this month, and instead of getting a third party to provide content (like the other blocks), they got one to make a 9-13 year old aimed block. As such, its viewer ship numbers are hidden. They're probably absolutely terrible.
CW finally is first in something!

At least post the ratings from the cartoon channels. They actually have new shows there, and many people also wanted to see which gets cancelled and which live to see another season.
