Yeah, I just don't see what everyone is raving about. He's a boring brown color with a really awkward looking mane.

I don't know whether these would be tropes. Version exclusives I think aren't tropes. They could make anything version exclusive, so yea.
The cat Pokemon always has an evo, so this seems likely.

Whoops, I only just quoted you, forgot to reply to you. It could be a trope. Gen 3 & 5 didn't have an eeveelutiion.
Not 3 or 5, no.
Chatot in Gen 4 used the DS's mic feature in its special attack.
Gen 3 had many Pokemon that existed solely to be used in double battles, which were first brought in that gen. Plusle/Minun, Volbeat/Illumuse, Latios/Latias.
Gen 5 had Deerling and Sawsbuck that change with the seasons.
