Dreamfall Chapters is gonna be a Kickstarter project:

RPS: When you say ‘independently funding’, I recall that we spoke a while ago and you did mention that the Kickstarter explosion had got your attention? Is crowdfunding something you’re still considering?

Tørnquist: Yes it is. We will be doing a Kickstarter. Not right now, but we will be doing it in the near future, simply because although we received a grant from the Norwegian Film Institute, which was announced today, that is only for the preproduction phase. That allows us to get started on a prototype but in order to fully develop Dreamfall Chapters we’re going to need more money and we will be going to Kickstarter.

Would it be at all possible for me to make a topic on Awesome Controller? I'm not involved in it, but it is something that I feel definitely needs more exposure.

But of course. I missed out on a lot of really cool optional pledges (physical editions, etc.) though.

This is what upsets me - like I wish I'd pledged higher for DFA and Shadowrun to get some of the cool rewards. At least I pledged SOMETHING, I guess :)

Before even watching the video, this is sending up red flags, and sirens with flashing lights:
"Sui Generis is an open world RPG for the PC featuring ground breaking technology and innovative gameplay"

fakeedit: Well, the physics and lighting effects look astounding, but gameplay-wise, it didn't seem all that innovative (other than momentum effecting combat). Will keep an eye on it and certainly think about backing it, if they continue to update.

I saw that earlier and wasn't too impressed. The screenshots are all dull - grey, brown, pale green, they don't mention much at all about the world.

a dark, hostile mediaeval world pervaded by intrigue and treachery. A completely original work evolved over many years, the Sui Generis universe is the product of many rare moments of inspiration. It encompasses a vast and rich history spanning aeons and galaxies, not as vague mythology but actual chains of events leading to the current situation.

Which is nothing but vagaries.

They also only have 1 programmer on their team.

Maia is going to be very good, it's worth people's time looking into it and throwing some money at it.

I worked with Simon Roth for a bit and he's damn good at what he does, there's no doubt he's going to deliver if he gets the cash to make it a full product.

The PC combat animation in Sui Generis looks goofy but the beatdown at the end was fantastic.

I'm a little weary but I'll take a chance on it.

Shame the Ship isn't setting more hearts ablaze.

Oh I see it's doing the whole "or paid downloadable content" bullshit that the zombie game did. I will probably cancel my pledge then. If they want to go free to play they can go find some fucking venture capitalists.

Man the system they've created looks crazy decent. Sadly, as per all physics based movements, it looks like a bunch of puppets flailing around. I would love if they improved on that, but considering everything is 'physic' based, I can't imagine them changing something on such a core level.

Backing none the less ... although kinda weary with kickstarter's currency change. It feels like they've just changed the currency symbol. So a 20 usd entry level becomes 20 pounds entry level. The currency difference between USD & the sterling is quite significant.

Here's one that caught my eye simply by the first line

Do you remember SSI (Strategic Simulation Inc.) and its great games?

SSI was pretty much my favorite company, between all their RPGs and strategy games. This though seems to be a remake of/inspired by one of their later games, Fantasy General

http://www.indiegogo.com/FantasyKommander

The pitch video isn't that great. A lady in an office with bad audio, then apparently some larping, only until 2 minutes into it do you get some screens of how it plays. Which is rather rough.

One of those games I wouldn't back, but will probably buy if it actually gets made.

Did anyone already mention Allister Brimble's Kickstarter?

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2059538678/the-amiga-works

Target: 13.000 British Pounds
Deadline: Jan 1 2013

Like Chris Hülsbeck with his Turrican Kickstarter Allister Brimble is going to revitalize his classic Amiga tunes in modern quality plus some remixes. Being a fan of Team 17's glorious Amiga days and his soundtracks this is pretty exciting news for me. Maybe for someone else too.

I'm considering a new thread for Distance in few days. Futuristic racers are practically extinct these days and this one looks very promising! ...but it's only at 50% of the goal with 11 days remaining.

Well, I backed it now.

And I've never backed a Kickstarter that didn't make it, including a few that looked like they wouldn't.

Let's not let this one be the first.

Splash Damage
Unusual Heroes is a sci-fi RPG mixed with (old skool) xcom/syndicate combat.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1991838495/unusual-heroes

pier_end_barge_Z_D_500px.png

Ends Monday Dec 3

Goal is £70,000

Lead characters are unique to games each having a disability (2 in wheelchairs and 1 partially sighted, the dog is fine though...)

Graphically mix of iso RPG with modern 3D rendering, support for Oculus and 3D screens.

PC/Mac/Linux support at ship

Creator is me, Deano Calver, ex Splash Damage and Ninja Theory, a lead on Heavenly Sword, Brink and Silent Hill 2 PC.

Please have a look, if you have any question or think it sucks or the pitch needs works please let me know, I'll answer what I can (yay for not having a publisher to tell me what I can and can't say!).

Thanks

Splash Damage
X-Com and Syndicate have two very different combat systems.

This is true, the one difference being real-time vs turn based. Another being a non static world.
I'm using a classic XCom turn based system but with a non static world (though itself divided into turns), so car can move, non combatants can wander around but you still have the time to think about things.

Mixing real-time with turn based is a very tricky proposition, back on Dreamland chronicles we had a system but its not quite right for this kind of game, so i'm going turn based for all combat. Also turn based is easier on people who can't at the moment play real-time due to health reasons or just too busy.

So turn based with a heavy nod to XCOM drawing some of the real-time ideas from Syndicate and even Cannon Fodder.

Disclaimer: I worked at Mythos with Julian, so have a heavy bias towards XCOM style turn based combat.

well Sui Generis is supposed to be pre-alpha and they have stated that they are still working on animations and physics..so hopefully they'll reach a stage where its pleasing to watch without the characters moving like drunks :D

didnt know that about the currency change...when i watch their home page it says 10 pounds for the game and 20 pounds for early beta access.

someone make a thread for this game :)

...Anyone still waiting for a childhood favourite to be Kickstarted at this point?

Julian Gollop: A spiritual successor to Chaos.

Lawrence Holland & Edward Kilham: A mission-based space combat sim (Don't get me wrong, Chris Roberts is great - but having options would be better!)

SPORTSFRIENDS

A compendium of four joyfully fun local multiplayer games for PlayStation 3 and home computers.

We're four game developers – Douglas Wilson, Ramiro Corbetta, Bennett Foddy, and Noah Sasso – joining forces to release Sportsfriends, a compendium of four highly acclaimed local multiplayer games:

• Johann Sebastian Joust
• BaraBariBall
• Super Pole Riders
• Hokra

All four games are accessible, spectator-friendly, and deeply replayable.

They already exist as playable prototypes, and have been exhibited around the world at festivals and parties. They've received lots of honors and awards, including three IndieCade awards and the Innovation Award at the 2012 Game Developers Choice Awards. Most importantly, we know they're super fun. Sony does too, and they've already given us the go-ahead to put Sportsfriends on the PlayStation 3!

We want to take the current prototypes to completion, adding tons of different ways to play while keeping them simple at heart. Publishers aren't interested in local multiplayer-only games, so that's where you come in. We need Kickstarter funding to make this project happen.

Back us with $15 or more, and you'll get this package of four games PLUS exclusive rewards. And you'll make it possible for us to finally bring these games to the broader public and to YOU!

This looks interesting and was funded pretty fast. Probably because they aren't asking for much, but eh.

No gameplay (yet) but awesome music samples courtesy of based Alex Roe and throw-backs to Suikoden make my wallet tremble. What say you, GAF?

...Anyone still waiting for a childhood favourite to be Kickstarted at this point?

Now that Chris Roberts joined the crowfunding frenzy the only KS I'm dreaming off is new Myst. Cyan is stuck making mobile crap, because that's all they can afford to. Kickstarter seems like a no-brainer, especially since AFAIR they still own the rights to the IP. I imagine Myst VI KS would gather a lot of money.

Kickstarter finally has a real purpose:

http://www.talesofgames.com/2012/11/barkley-2-announcement-kickstarter-coming-soon/

Tales of Game’s Studios is excited to announce The Magical Realms of Tír na nÓg: Escape from Necron 7 – Revenge of Cuchulainn: The Official Game of the Movie – Chapter 2 of the Hoopz Barkley SaGa, the sequel to the 2008 edutainment tour de force Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden. Barkley 2 is an action RPG that continues the story of the previous game and features an open, non-linear world for players to explore and discover. Barkley 2 pits the player as X114JAM9, an amnesiac baller with no recollection of his past and no concept of his incredible b-ball destiny. Only the arcane wisdom of the otherworldly slam scholar Cyberdwarf can reclaim his lost memories… and lost b-ball powers. But first, X114JAM9 must evade the sinister grasp of the malevolent A.I. Cuchulainn, his would-be captor and the ancient nemesis of all ballers, hoopsters, slammers and jammers.

Stay tuned, because we’ll be running a Barkley 2 Kickstarter campaign later this month. In the meantime, check out our Twitter account at @talesofgames for updates or contact us for further information at contact@talesofgames.com. But be careful – the Post-Cyberpocalypse is coming.
