Kickstarter Thread -2013 Edition- List of gaming Kickstarts & other related projects

Status
Not open for further replies.

Welcome to the new unofficial NeoGaf Kickstarter Thread for 2013!

This thread will primarily be used to discuss and share links for gaming related projects on Kickstarter. It can also be used as a place to discuss gaming projects that are hosted on other crowd funding services like Indiegogo or Gambitious. I will try to keep track of everything in the OP to the best of my ability, but keep in mind that it will not be a complete listing for every gaming project on Kickstarter. Just the ones that generate interest from the NeoGaf community.

Know about a new project? Feel free to post them here or send a link to the thread.

The 2012 Thread can be found by clicking here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=469116

Glad to see this post pop up.
War for the Overworld, looks interesting, but the playable alpha they include is not particularly worth including.

Thanks, I was meaning to post this yesterday, but I had a bit of a hangover from new years.... :p

I am still working out the formatting. But I think I have gotten it under control. I will remove the entire list of funded games for 2012 at a later date if I run out of room. I will just link it from the older thread.

It looks good to me, though I do agree with your plan to remove the 2012 funded. Takes up a bit too much space. All in good time.

Card Boy

Banned
I only want to know about card games preferably both digital with physical card rewards like the Shadow Era crowdfund.

I find it a little funny that the gametron keeps failing, I watched the video and it looks like it could be fun for a random game generator and the pixel art is nice, but the asking price is so high it will never make that money.

It's going to be interesting to see what Kickstarters we get now. I know that the Bill Tiller has one planned for a new A Vampyre Story game, and Julian Gollop mentioned that he is considering a kickstarter for the Chaos remake/sequel.

Oton looks like a joke. The presentation video looks like a infomercial

Otan has shades of Phantom going on for it. If you watch the pitch video, they claim it is capable of generating its own 2D or 3D games on the fly that will be tailor made to the tastes of each individual user. It will also be able to run Android apps and its own priority software. But of course no actual hardware specs are mentioned at all anywhere...

Oh and it also has a built in "laser projection camera" that can be used to project your games anywhere without a TV.... :p

gamestick looks like the real deal. Should we post a new thread?

Yeah, it actually does look pretty snazzy for a game console on a USB stick, I think it might be thread worthy.

It's going to be interesting to see what Kickstarters we get now. I know that the Bill Tiller has one planned for a new A Vampyre Story game, and Julian Gollop mentioned that he is considering a kickstarter for the Chaos remake/sequel.

I wouldn't mind a starflight 3

What's the story behind OTON? I'm sure there's a great editorial behind that crazy video.
If it has a projector, why would there also be a motion sensor on the same hardware? Crazy.

They show the source code for the game generator in that video, and someone here noticed that apparently it's just the code from an open source platformer called Secret Maryo Chronicles

Oh now that is just sad...

I didn't realize there was an official thread, BTW. Also, I just noticed that the timer on the OTON website keeps shifting forward. I looked at it a few hours ago and it said there were 22 hours left. I check back, and there is now a day left.

Hmmm... this whole project doesn't feel legit to me at all. Scam pretty well sums it up, I just removed it from the listings in the OP.

still wish i'dve put in for 31 days of zero suit samus, waiting on fangamer to get them up already

also i was particularly interested in the revised edition of the rise & fall of sega, and the guy says you can still donate via paypal & get the rewards but an actual copy is way too expensive, think ill wait till august when he says they'll hit amazon

OP could you add just a general genre to each game, at least those not yet ended? For those of us browsing and are looking for games we may like to fund.

yeah, I suppose I could do that for the current projects. I generally keep information for listings to a minimum, because of the 24000 character limit. But I will see what I can do.

Good topic, nice to see it all in one place.

I also see that my GODUS Kickstarter is in the top 10 of 2012 (in at #10!) for most funded game projects. AHA! But it's also #1 if you exclude the US ones (by that I mean UK based KS in £s).

Anyway, I hope all of you will ask all of these new announced or yet-to-be announced projects the same difficult questions you've been asking me and the team here. :p

Oh and SO happy for the War of the Overworld guys, now that IS a game I certainly want to see happen, and play.

don't know if this is the right topic but i found a hilarious bad kickstarter project:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1137332172/run-for-money

Don't worry, it's the right topic to post this :p .

The first rule in creating a Kickstarter video: Invest in a decent microphone. God damn, my ears! I added it to the OP, BTW.

Someone mentioned this in the Vita thread

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=46125875#post46125875

Vacant Sky: Awakening, an episodic RPG (sort of like a JRPG but not Japanese) for Vita/Playstation Mobile, PC, Android, and Ouya

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/projectbc/vacant-sky-awakening-a-pre-apocalyptic-rpg

Looking for $8000, they have $2000 already with 29 days to go.

Thanks. Added too.

The kickstarter for the GCW Zero is live:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gcw/gcw-zero-open-source-gaming-handheld

Maybe it deserves his own thread.

Its a dedicated linux based gaming handheld, an independent device release develop by a group of retro gaming enthusiasts. I would say its a spiritual successor to the famous Dingoo devices.

It has a similar hardware to the NeoGeo X, but much better software, support and controls.

If you want more information, you can watch some videos from this guy:

http://www.youtube.com/user/qbertaddict1/videos?view=0

I think he is like the official tester of the device.

This other guy also has some nice videos:

If you want even more info, this is a good place:

Not to sound mean, but aren't there a lot of devices like this already being made, with much better specs for similar prices?

For instance,

http://www.willgoo.com/jxd-s7300-du...ns-8gb-p-306.html?referrer=CNWR_4551336411668

Essentially a knock off of the Wii U pad, only running Android, and $150.

Yeah, in fact i made a thread here about that device. I am not sure to be honest, all that jxd and similar chinese android devices are not really very good... yeah the s7300 sounds very promising, but we don't know yet.

Some people says that android is not the best environment for a game console, that there are inherent problems with the emulators on all that android devices, like the sound lag here explained:

http://youtu.be/mzXRyFQM3Ts

I am not sure to be honest, i am happy with the emulator on my android phone, but its a phone, i am not being exigent.

So the thing is, this GCX Zero seems to work pretty good... with good controls and all that; but sure, it's just another option for a niche market anyways, but interesting nonetheless.

Just a question, what are the best emulator machine that can play ps1/n64 games currently? Can this or the kick starter one run these emulators smoothly ?

Well, the psx emulators on android (fpse, epsx) are quite good right now, you can play psx games with no problems even without a top notch device.

Regarding the n64, i dont really have first hand experience, not that interesting to me, but apparently, you can also play games on android without much problem.

About this GCW Zero device, we should wait a little bit to know about that, they are apparently still developing the opengl drivers for the gpu, and they are going to show psx emulation when that is done.

On theory, it should be able to play psx games without much problem, in fact there are allready emulators for that O.S. (opendingux).

But at the end, i am not the best informed person to answer that questions.

Updated. I also added thread links for a few other entries. Pretty slow week anyway, Pathfinder Online will be ending in three days.

$710,708 pledged of $1,000,000 goal, they need to raise more than 289k in three days. Anyone think they will do it?

YES! Galcon 2 reached its goal - I didn't think they could do it. :)

Added two more entries:

- Dim Sum Robot #1 - mecha food cart action! (Ends Jan 26th 2013) Mecha Food Cart Simulation Ongoing. This one here is another retro inspired game. , But it has a pretty inventive premise. The person creating this is only asking $1000.00 to fund it.

- Brave Bit (Ends February 6th 2013) 2D Puzzle Platformer Ongoing.
A puzzle platformer for iOS and Android in the style of VVVVVV. Asking for £10,000.

Also Pathfinder Online: A Fantasy Sandbox MMO is ending in 53 hours, they need to raise $207,345 dollars to hit their goal of one million dollars in that time frame.
